This is a great what I eat in a day video 👍 I liked how you incorporated Mediterranean diet. I have been incorporating some components of it in my Indian diet and it’s been working great for me. Lentils and chickpeas that are common in Indian diets are highly underrated. Just because something is inexpensive doesn’t mean it’s not nutritious. Avocados are quite affordable where I live but I do have to watch how much avocados I eat. They are good fats but they are higher calorie too. So the bottom line is: eat local and everything in moderation :) Thank you for the video!
@@DrNeneOfficial Hello sir, what should be the right diet for the entire day for a person above 60- vegetarian and high cholesterol- all, bad one and triglycerides as well?
Dr Nene, really surprised to see no native Beans/Lentils/Legumes/Pulses, native whole grains like different types millets and fresh local vegetables in your "what I eat ..." video. That used to be dominant part of Indian diet, widely available, reasonably priced, delicious, sustainable and super healthy and what most Indians could afford.

The best diet for Indians in India is basic Indian village food, not Mediterranean. olives and avocados are not local to Indian soil or climate. millet bhakris with some vegetables. mixed Usal, red rice ambili (fermented rice in water and a little yogurt overnite - the best probiotic ever), lots of fresh fruits, 8-10 glasses of water and atleast 45 mins or an hour of walking. my Dadi was from a small village near Mangalore and she died at a ripe age of 94 without absolutely any lifestyle diseases. being Brahmins there was no question of eating any kind of meat whatsoever - not even eggs. She never ever tasted bread. Chapati was a "stomach drying " food so she never even ate wheat roti's. Ragi Mudde which is Ragi millet flour steamed balls with coconut chutney or just some ghee, or red rice kanji, idli, dosa ect ware breakfast options. lunch was again red rice with sambar and some seasonal vegetable that grew in the backyard. sometimes instead of rice it would be broken bajra porridge or broken jowar porridge with pickles or chutney depending on the season and weather. evening tea was with some light snack which were kind of vadi's made of different dals or sabudana or Poha. dinner was almost same as lunch. most Payasams in our home was made of some lentils, coconut milk and jaggery. infact almost all sweets had a combination of some grain or fruits like Jackfruit, pineapple with coconut milk and jaggery. I remember in the early 80's there was no electricity and people ate dinner before sunset. the rest of the evening was getting to know your neighbors and sometimes cattle. soft chit chat, a little paan supari and then it was bedtime. mornings started at 4 am. walking barefeet in the cowdung treated courtyard , plucking flowers for pooja, bathing in well water. Believe it or not, she needed glasses only to read and still had about 50 % black hair on her head at 94 when she died. India is blessed with abundant grains and other agricultural products which more than suffice everything our body needs for a healthy life. we seriously dont need any kind of meat at all for our protein needs. a good helping of millets, beans and lentils is excellent source of proteins, vitamins and even micronutrients. dont know if you have ever eaten Rajgira sprouts, ragi sprouts, jowar and bajra sprouts. soak these grains overnite and let them sprout for 2-3 days till they are about 1/2 inch long sprouts. simply add this to some raw salad or idli dosa batter, poha, upma and relish it. Methi Muthia with mix dal flour or bajra flour, mixed dal steam vadi's are some excellent protein alternatives to eggs.
So so true!! It’s so important to eat local where you live, and there is a reason previous generations lived so much longer and healthier. They knew what to eat. Unfortunately technology has done more bad than good in the food industry I feel. Excessive processed, fast food items and only certain foods getting popularity like there is nothing else like those in the world no matter where you live is BS. India has such diversity in nutritious foods that many ppl are unaware of. Being grew up in Punjab myself, I do not find much diversity tbh, we mostly ate wheat roti for atleast 2 meals with veggies/dal. So when I try to eat ragi or bajra roti, it does not taste as good to me, may be it will grow on me with time. So I am always keen to explore nutritious veg foods that I can incorporate in my lifestyle from south as we only know a few popular ones to cook like idli, dosa. I am actually gonna screenshot your comment as I had not heard some dishes you mentioned to search later lol. Thanks!

@@kiranveerkaursidhu610 since you are from Punjab Bajra might be more easily available in your state. bajra rotis are made the same way as makki roti's. tastes awesome with Baigan bharta. you can also relish it with any leafy vegetable or even Rajma. never be a slave to taste. if you eat these bajra or jowar bhakri's atleast 2-3 times a week slowly you will develop the taste. Ragi flour can be cooked with water like soup. What I do is take 2-3 tablespoons of ragi flour in about 250 ml water and slowly let it cook and boil till it looks like soup. cool this completely. Now add some curd to this and more water and make chaas with this. add some roasted jeera powder and salt to taste. you will not even realise the taste of Ragi. in winters this same Ragi soup can be mixed with hot milk and add some dryfruits honey and saffron to make a healthy drink. Barnyard millet or its commonly called as Upwas ke chawal can be cooked exactly like rice and had instead of rice. you can mix any of these millet flours alongwith wheat flour 50-50 to get used to it. all these flours are very easy to incorporate in your regular recipes.
@@buddhapiyao1315 Oh yeah, we do actually eat makki rotis in winters mostly with saag but that’s about it. I will try all the other flours mixed with wheat to make them a part of my daily routine. I have also heard that freshly milled flours have more minerals and nutrients than if it’s been sitting for a while. Do you know if the flours that are available in packs in the market can be equally good?
@@kiranveerkaursidhu610 thats true. better to get the grain and grind it to a flour at home just as much as you need. millets are better ground fresh. even if you buy it from the store check the mfg date and use it within a week or 10 days. try to incorporate millets in some form everyday. you can actually even sprout bajra, jowar and ragi. soak them seperately overnite, drain the water in the morning and lightly wrap them ina damp cloth. since these grains are a bit hard it will take 2-3 days to sprout but once they are sprouted you can simply add it in paratha stuffing, in your dals or sabzi's. even one handful of any of these grains everyday will help. I even sprout Rajgira grains- its a superfood. Rajgira is an extremely tiny grain and once it sprouts it will feel like fluffy cotton. add this in soups, salads, or sprinkle some on any sabzi you make.

Would help to have Indian alternatives for avocado, as you mentioned, avocados r expensive. Also, vegetarian alternatives for chicken/fish, for high protein
Good suggestions. Thank you. Our Indian diet can be very healthy too if we could go back in time and practice eating what our parents or grandparents ate. It would be useful if you could study Indian food by traveling to places in India, and give information about their nutritional value and see what ordinary people can eat, to maintain good health with the kind of food that is available for the general public. Our whole grains, beans, lentils, dhal, vegetables, and fruits have greater value in keeping good health. Thank you.
I would go with Doctor Gregor and Dr Furhmans diet Best wishes Dr Nene These protein rich diets gymming and paneer eggs n chicken is causing Indian male to have heart attack at young age

This is a wholesome video
Good suggestions. Thank you.
Our Indian diet can be very healthy too if we could go back in time and practice eating what our parents or grandparents ate. It would be useful if you could study Indian food by traveling to places in India, and give information about their nutritional value and see what ordinary people can eat, to maintain good health with the kind of food that is available for the general public. Our whole grains, beans, lentils, dhal, vegetables, and fruits have greater value in keeping good health. Thank you.
True, acc to indian science meals can be heavy during d day n lighter towards night

I would go with Doctor Gregor and Dr Furhmans diet Best wishes Dr Nene These protein rich diets gymming and paneer eggs n chicken is causing Indian male to have heart attack at young age
Sir we know all this- but a person from 9-5 finds it hard to maintain this routine. Maximum we can do is to minimise sugar. This looks good in theory and on film stars.

Sir, we ardently follow your health suggestions as these are the simple and sustainable practices to maintain health. As a surgeon trained from the US we will be grateful if you can share insights on medical training abroad, so as to prepare my son studying in 12th standard. What are the differences that you have experienced while taking medical training from the United States. What are the ideal academic majors that can be focused for pre med training. Apologize to ask this general question through this platform, but we value your experience in the field.
Respects and regards.
