  • A short video of our latest walk up to Starling Dodd and Red Pike, taking in the amazing sight of Scale Force waterfall.
It was a great day with fine, but chilly conditions up on the Western fells.
Stunning views are everywhere no matter where you look on this walk.

Scale Force was looking very impressive and never been on Starling Dodd before but boy, do I remember Red Pike, which I went up the way you went down about 18 months ago, doing the High Style Range walk. I struggled getting to the summit of Red Pike, so did not envy you going down that way, although it could have been worse - off High Crag😳, what a bloody mare that was! I had one tumble off High Crag (thankfully only one) and pride more than anything got hurt but will not descend from there again but going down Red Pike looked just as bad. I still have the Red Pike at Wastwater to do, which is hopefully a lot less challenging that it's namesake at Buttermere. Great video and sensational views, cheers Alan

Thanks for watching, Alan. Yes, what a horrible descent/ascent Red Pike is, I don't know why the path hasn't been extended to the summit. And you're right about High Crag - probably just as bad. Starling Dodd isn't a popular fell, but the views all around are spectacular. Red Pike in Wasdale is well worth the effort , I intend camping there one of these days. Cheers and take care.

Another good un! It looks like a bit of a trek but I wonder if Starling Dodd would make a good wildcamp spot? Some nice views to the West and the IoM for sunset and views to the East for the rise aswell. What was the ground like up there, looked pretty flat but maybe stony?

Great video, really enjoyed it. We did Red Pike 3 weeks ago in the wind and rain and got none of the views you got. Going down that scree would have been tough and dangerous, one fall wasn't too bad an outcome. We came down Mellbreak by the screes and that was a big mistake, so so tricky and slow going. Love the dog too!! Regards, Ashley

Thanks for watching, Ashley. I've climbed up the scree slope on Mellbreak, but wouldn't fancy going down it. I think Diz loves the fells just as much as me. Cheers!
