Oh Ophelia, This is what originally brought me to your channel. My grandmother was born in Copenhagen. Her sister and her cousins and friends made these squares and sent them to my mother and aunts. We used them for coasters and hot pads. We were given ones for Christmas and Spring and any day. The ones I still have are probably 60-70 years old. They used cotton thread. I love these but now I am going to make a blanket to pass on. It is so special to me. My grandmother’s name was Litta, so this will be named after her. I thank you so much😢. This is wonderful!

I love this idea of making your grandma's squares and keeping them in a pretty box ready to assemble into a blanket. Like you say, they are something small we can take with us, that we can do in between other bigger projects and we can use a coordinating palette or use up our left over yarn stash. The "boxes" are one of your signature stitches and I have made several Anna star blankets which have always been lovely to make and give as gifts. Your lovely grandma's legacy lives on through your beautiful work and I'm sure there are replicas of her star blankets all over the world! xx

What a wonderful idea! I'm in.
My grandmother was also very dear to me. She was a citrus farmer in Florida. After a long day's work we would sit on her porch in the middle of her grove. The smell of the citrus flowers was intoxicating. She would play her autoharp and we would sing together. Sometimes she would play the harmonica and I would sing the songs she taught me. My favorite is "Wildwood Flower". I sing it every day to honor her. I have her autoharp and harmonica. I miss her gentle wit, her perfect smile, and the time we spent playing music and singing together amid the fragrant flowers. Nonnie, I love you.❤

Thank you Anya and thank you Grandma Anna. I love your tutorials and have made many of your projects. I had an accident about 2 months ago and am still suffering from head injury. I am signed off work, really feeling discombobulated (wouldn't be surprised if I found my toothbrush in the fridge) - also walking like a Thunderbirds' puppet - however, I can still crochet - basic stuff. I really look forward to making these beautiful squares and creating something rather lovely xx Thank you x

So sweet🌹 I lost my mom Anna many years ago. I have her needles, books and magazines. She loved knitting, everyday in her life. Her legacy for me is this: slip the first stitch in the knitting row to make a perfect simple border. I always use this method in my knitting because this my way to stay with my mom. She made sweaters for so many people and always for free. I make the same, I donate everything I crochet. Just a shawl and shirt for me. I don't need many things to be happy: some yarn, a crochet and remember my mom knitting in the evening. ❤

Very sweet, thanks for sharing. I learned to crochet when I was very young from my Grandmas friend and my Grandma whose name was also Ana. She was also always crocheting or sewing. It was harder for her when she was much older because of the arthritis in her hands and she would tell me, crochet now while you are young and don't wait until later. I now have had arthritis in my back and hands and bad hand pain since my mid 30s. Medications are currently helping me but I think its important to continue crocheting. It has helped me alot.

I started the legacy blanket today. I have done a blanket like this before in pinks and gifted it so I’m happy to be doing this again for myself, using the neutral pack.

Anna’s legacy square is the perfect name you obviously have such fond memories of your grandma and I can only hope all my grandchildren will have the same memories for the blankets I’ve made for them. Yay, another challenge!!! I will try to keep up this time, since I have two 6 month old kittens. They are a handful and I’m afraid they will get to chewing my yarn. 😔
You could place the yarn ball in a bag and zip most of it closed and just let the single yarn strand out while crocheting. Then when done place the unfinished square in the bag until you need it again.
Or you can use all types of containers around the house, if you think out of the box!
It is important not to let kitties eat yarn, it can be very dangerous for the kitty (& the yarn!) Wishing you many years of healthy happiness with your kittens!!💜
Always keep yarn stash in a closed cabinet or room when not using so little paws don't get in trouble! 🐾💜🐾

I love this idea! I can’t trust my color choices, that’s why I imitate yours to the letter! Lol! It’s scary to trust my own choices. I will try. I’m working on a 2 panel jumper/bolero top, based on row 4 of the Greenway Mystery Blanket. We shall see if I can work on that in November as well as some sunflower squares, daisy squares & your Mooka’s squares. I do find I need to change from one thing to another now that I can crochet a bit quicker nowadays.

Nana Anna’s square would be my name choice. I am called Nana by my grandchildren and have been making blankets for them to give to their children “from Nana” with love I will probably never hold a great grandchild but my handmade crochet blankets will hold them.

I am so excited to start this blanket and love the covered box Grandma Anna used for her squares. When my son and daughter and nieces and nephews have gone to college I made each of them a blanket for their dorms so they would have a piece of home with them. I understand your Grandmas love of giving blankets; it’s a wonderful token of love.

Anja het is een prachtige deken met een prachtig verhaal. En door zijn eenvoud vind ik hem toch uniek en bijzonder.
Ik herriner mij ook nog de video waarin je Moeke's haakwerken vond in een doos, zo emotioneel.
Deze deken is waarschijnlijk de eerst volgende op mijn to do list. Vooral het maken van de vierkanten wanneer je maar in de gelegenheid komt om ze daarna samen te voegen spreekt mij erg aan.

Anja dear, I too still love my grandmother although she has been gone for many, many years. She was amazing in that she could look at fancy lace doilies or a lovely tablecloth and recreate the design. I was infatuated with this ability that I sadly did not inherit. 😢. I love the name you chose, and I also love crocheting with a bit of history involved. Thank you for that. My one question is this: I would like to make two lap robes. I have two packs of yarn in mind that I am excited to order. Will ten balls be enough to make the lap robe and join? Thank you Anja.
The packs we sell are enough to make a single bed sized blanket, so yes you 'should' have enough, but there's no guarantees depending on the size, your tension, hook etc.

Can you provide some hints....such as how many squares can I get out of one skein of Special DK; I recognize that the stars could be made using my stash bin. I made the Duck Pond blanket for a collogue who was to become a first-time grandmother, so I'm excited for this November challenge. Can you estimate if 10 skeins would have been enough to complete the Duck Pond, which I think was 25 squares? I also suggest "The Anna Square" as its moniker.
Just a thought, make a square and weight it. That could help you calculate up to 100gms
