Delmar's (Tim Blake Nelson's) reaction was priceless. Tim was actually blushing while filming this scene. The actresses who played the sirens were given very little direction other than to vamp the men while lip synching this tune from Emmylou, Gilian, and Alison. They nailed it.
" First you will come to the Sirens who enchant all who come near them. If any one unwarily draws in too close and hears the singing of the Sirens, his wife and children will never welcome him home again, for they sit in a green field and warble him to death with the sweetness of their song. "
This was filmed about ten minutes from my house in Mississippi. It’s called D’lo water park. I go every summer with my kids. Great place to cool off!!!
I have to agree with some earlier comments. The men's acting was amazing. To act without many words can be difficult, and they did that amazingly. All of them are strong intelligent men, and to give themselves in this way was nothing short of genius and evidence of how they consistently refine their craft.
After watching this movie quite a few times, it just now occurred to me that the siren offered the corn liquor to Ulysses only basically to shut him up, lol.
They dont show it, but they got them all drunk . In the next scene the guys realize the women were bonty hunters looking to capture them and turn them in for the reward. The whiskey was because they couldn't haul them all in at the same time. So they got them drunk untill they passed out.
Best film. About half of the characters are based on those in "The Odyssey" by Homer, others are based on real people from the 30s. Ulysses is the Roman form of Odysseus; Penny is Penelope; Big Dan is the cyclops Polyphemus, and so on. Coen brothers have created some of the finest movies ever produced and are fun to figure out.

This is one of the most unique scenes I ever saw in a Hollywood movie. No gimmicks or effects and they gave us one of the best seduction scenes. The Sirens!!! Hommage to Homer's Odyssey.
Classic!!!!!!
I am always amazed when I go to the place where this was filmed..... De'lo Mississippi. Never encountered those "Sirens" though....
The best movie ever . One day im going to visit ur mountains Appalachian. From i was told there OMG
I just cant stop listening & watching this scene!
I love the frog scene!
🤣🤣🤣
Great job channeling the experience. I saw Grace perform in 65. You have no idea how revolutionary mind altering transformative the airplane were
Pete's freakout when hearing the ladies had me laughing
This is one of the most unique scenes I ever saw in a Hollywood movie. No gimmicks or effects and they gave us one of the best seduction scenes. There is no doubt that the serenade sets the mood and steals the show, and the ladies compliment it marvellously. I wondered if they were sirens or vampires, but then realized it didn't matter. This movie had a few such scenes (like the baptism scene) that were memorable.
I met one of my wives as she was doing her laundry at a laundromat,
Wasn’t quite like this though
World class humor in an obscure YT comment. Congratulations 👏
I laughed out loud. Beautifully understated.
I absolutely died at "they loved him up and turned him into a toady frog!!" Almost choked on my popcorn in the theater at that line
It’s interesting how I was watching this movie on Prime Video the other day and now this shows up on my TH-cam feed. I’ve never had anything from “Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?” show up on my feed. Ever.

Absolutely perfect.
Best film ever I have watched it about 8 times.
If I saw a beautiful woman who I didn’t know approaching me like that.. I’d run.. cuz I know nothing good is about to happen.
Like u and me and the devil makes “three”? Go to sleep little baby! Yeah! RUN!!,!!!!!!
If only I had run. Ribbit.
You'll stay if there's no other game in town.
