I'm a bit of a FTX Fan, Got the Mauler when it came out, done some upgrades including 4 wheel steering and my own rx & esc. i have a hill that it could only get half way up, now done some other upgrades and got a spare set of tryes that i have taken the foam out of so going back to the hill soon.

Nice one, how do you like the Mauler as a hill climb platform?

@@RCMojoTV it's ok. Could really do with better tyres on it for a start to get better grip but apart from that it's not too bad. Have not used my one for a while now.

Nice video,as always.Don't have the Mauler, just the Outback and Kanyon, both have been very reliable so am curious about the wear issues you mention.I am sure that in your circles you have much more experience and don't doubt what you say is true. Maybe at some point you could show the problem,if it arises on yours? Just a thought. Yes, I realise that my 2 have a totally different use to the Mauler so maybe it is just this truck and the use (or abuse) it gets over your average crawler.

It depends a lot on how and where the trucks are run. I have an RGT that shares much with the FTX Outback, it was fine out of the box driving trails through dirt and tree roots. Then the first time I tried it over rocks where the wheels get bound up both the plastic lockers gave up after a couple of minutes.
That's fine by me though, you save some cash on the initial outlay but sacrifice a little quality and durability. More or less everything in upgradable though so they make great fun project trucks

Haha, I think my wording wasn't the best!
Try finding a kit under £150 from anyone other than Tamiya, they're super rare. You've got a few from Absima well under £100 and that's about it

It's on par with other Chinese origin trucks, the steering parts being particularly prone to snapping. On the plus side you can get FTX metal parts to upgrade, or if you want to save a little money you can source parts for the RGT version
