  • The channel takes a little look at the budget MOA Crawler the FTX Ravine, does it give great performance for a limited budget?
    Below is a link to where I purchased mine from.

    3 short points:
    1. move cables to Y strud to keep tyres from rubbing on the cables
    2. put 150mm tyres on it, i like glued Louise Champs or Rowdy, alternatively fill the stock rims with car wheel weights
    3. fill the empty space in front axle with car wheel weights, about 50 grams may not sound like much but at the right place it makes a difference, especially on a vehicle that light

    Brilliant budget crawler, especially given the different steering modes... and MOA... I used to think that MOA's were the bees knees when I got my Axial Scorpion AX-10 (still got it and enjoy it!). Back to the Ravine, I've star cut the foams and added some wheel weights on top of the front & rear servos. I've also hot glued some coat hanger wire in the steering rods to stiffen them up. Cheers.

      Cheers for the tips there , I’ve just got some weights over my front servo , could do with a better servo really as well it’s not quite strong enough

    I bought mine by accident.
    It's really good for the money, and a an excellent choice for an RC beginner. Just let me recommend taking the wheels apart to remove the foam infills. The tires are stiff enough on their own, so it'll grip a little better. I recently changed to more expensive "soft" tires to mine and even though it's already good the improvement it's now significantly better!

    • @andyrobinsonrc2480
      @andyrobinsonrc2480  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep it’s a good tip to change the tyres out for some softer ones or like you say take the inserts out. I also recommend fitting a stronger steering servo as well . Many thanks :)

      @@andyrobinsonrc2480 Hehe, I haven't broken mine yet, but I've been in situations where it could easily happen. So, yes, prolly a good idea, I'll order up a metal gear servo right away.

      @@andyrobinsonrc2480 Heh, As the Ravine is pretty cheap to buy, it feels less of a hardship to pay for the upgrades. Though I did go mad and spend £53 plus postage on 4 tires, and now just over £30 on two servos, like you say, it'll be worth it in the long run. The servos are stronger, and the tires are brilliant!

    The more expensive crawlers seem to need allot of upgrades but the ravine works perfectly the way it is. The only thin I did was move the battery as far forward as I could. You can remove the foam filling from the tyres to make them softer but then it looses a bit of ground clearance. I like the moa system as the transmission is just a piece of wire rather than a prop shaft that's prone to damage. Also there is no axial torque twist.

      @andyrobinsonrc2480  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Rayxl1 thanks for the comments , yes quite agree with what you said the Ravine works very well , generally needs softer tyres and a better steering servo and more weight over the front but besides that it’s pretty much spot on especially for the price point :)

    How does the ravine stack up against the mauler, which would you say is best, im not interested in the rear wheels turning, cheers

    • @andyrobinsonrc2480
      @andyrobinsonrc2480  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The mauler overall is a better crawler but it’s almost twice the price , the ravine has better articulation for getting in between tight twisty spaces for the money Ravine is excellent and will do pretty much what the mauler will , although I’d buy some softer tyres for it

    • @bluesimon13ify
      @bluesimon13ify 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, I recon the mauler, it look better & you say it crawls better,

    • @andyrobinsonrc2480
      @andyrobinsonrc2480  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The mauler had more power and it is heavier and can keep its weight over the front axle better which is more ideal for going up slopes :)

    • @andyrobinsonrc2480
      @andyrobinsonrc2480  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Alan , cheers for the comment , I would guess that the FTX Ravine was about between 6-10mph , it would be a good beginners car as they’re not fast and can take a bit of punishment. Another option is something like a Tamiya grasshopper as they are inexpensive and very cheap to fix, also at Tamiya DT02 is pretty robust
