  • 📢 If you’ve ever gone online to research buying a Goldendoodle, you probably have come across weird letters in fronts of the breed like F1 or F2B and thought to yourself, ‘what is even the difference between an F1 Goldendoodle and an F2B Goldendoodle? Basically, these refer to the generation of doodle, and since the breed is a hybrid between a poodle and golden retriever, the percentage of retriever or poodle can differ.
    👉 A Quick Overview
    ● F1 Goldendoodle: 50% Poodle & 50% Golden Retriever
    ● F1B Goldendoodle: 75% Poodle & 25% Golden Retriever
    ● F1BB Goldendoodle: 87.5% Poodle & 12.5% Golden Retriever
    ● F2 Goldendoodle: 50% Poodle & 50% Golden Retriever
    ● F2B Goldendoodle: 62.5% Poodle & 37.5% Golden Retriever
    ● F2BB Goldendoodle: 81.25% Poodle & 18.75% Golden Retriever
    ● F3 Goldendoodle or Multi-generation Goldendoodle: Several generations of Goldendoodle breeding typically backcross breeding to the Standard Poodle.
    🐶 F1
    Starting off is the simplest generation to understand, the F1. This type of Goldendoodle is split 50/50 between a purebred standard poodle, as well as a purebred golden retriever. The F1 doodle is sort of the classic and often the one that people think about when the word “Goldendoodle” is mentioned.
    🐶 F1B
    The F1B Goldendoodle is 75% poodle, 25% golden retriever, and is a cross between an F1 Goldendoodle and a 100% standard poodle from the original purebred line, which is where the B comes in. Technically the F1B can also be crossed between an F1 and 100% golden, but this is much less common among breeders.
    🐶 F1BB
    The F1BB generation is a cross between an F1B Goldendoodle and an original purebred poodle or golden, but as we said earlier, it’s almost always the former, making the percentage 87.5% poodle and only 12.5% golden. You can probably figure out by now that the second B indicates a second backcross, and because of how much poodle there is in this generation, this is the most hypoallergenic and non-shedding dog of the first generation.
    🐶 F2
    The F2 Goldendoodle is not a very common generation of doodle to see, mostly due to how unpredictable it is to breed. The F2 is achieved by breeding two F1 or 50/50 doodles, together, creating a coin flip scenario when trying to figure out what traits the dog will have.
    🐶 F2B
    The F2B Goldendoodle is generally a cross between an F1 and F1B doodle, making it 62.5% poodle and 37.5% golden. However, some breeders will opt to cross two F1B doodles to create a doodle that is an even higher percentage of poodle, at 75% and 25% golden, respectively.
    🐶 F2BB
    The F2BB Goldendoodle is a cross between an F2B doodle and an original purebred poodle. It is 81.25% poodle and 18.75% golden retriever, making it the most hypoallergenic breed of the F2’s.
    🐶 F3
    F3 Goldendoodle, which is typically two F1B doodles bred together, but can also be two F2 doodles bred together to get to the same result. These F3 doods contain a lot of poodle genes, and so are again great for those of us with allergies.

    Great video! I had a question let’s say I have a F1B curly hair hypoallergenic and I breed it with another F1B would this offspring or probability of the offspring coming out curly and hypoallergenic be high or am I better off breeding my F1B with a poodle to keep the poodle traits

      🐶 Hey Steven! Breeding an F1B with another F1B is likely going to have wavy to curly hair. However, it's unknown unless you do a DNA test for improper coats and furnishings. Same with breeding an F1B and a Poodle. You never truly know unless you do a DNA test. You can read more here: 🔴 welovedoodles.com/improper-coat-goldendoodle-and-furnishings/ 🔴

    Will an F1 Mini Goldendoodle (Golden Retriever and Toy Poodle) and a Golden Retriever make F1B or F2B mini Goldendoodles? I have an F1 Mini Goldendoodle and am thinking of breeding him but I only hear of Goldendoodles breeding back with Standard Poodles, not Retrievers. I'm curious to see how they may differ

    • @WeLoveDoodles
      @WeLoveDoodles  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      🐶 It would technically make an F1B Mini Goldendoodle. But it's rare that people backcross back to the Golden Retriever because the puppy is very likely to shed. The offspring would be 75% Golden Retrieve rand 25% Poodle.

      F2BB is already a majority poodle since I’m assuming they were backcrossed with poodles? Mixing with any Goldendoodle could be a good ideal. It would be called a Multi-Gen Goldendoodle

    • @WeLoveDoodles
      @WeLoveDoodles  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey, yeah, you can do a general DNA test from like Embark. That should give you a good idea of the percentage. But it won't tell you the generation. For instance, if it was 50% Golden and 50% poodle, it could be a F1 or F2 or F3 since they all have the same percentage. Hope that makes sense.

      Hello. We highly suggest that you get a goldendoodle that has majority Poodle genes of 75%+. Typically this is going to be an F1B or higher generation that is backcrossed to a Poodle. The more Poodle genetics, the more nonshedding and hypoallergenic the puppy will be.

    • @WeLoveDoodles
      @WeLoveDoodles  ปีที่แล้ว

      F4B would just classified as multi-gen. Almost no breeder would ever say F4B. Ask for the genetic makeup of the dog, it's like 75% Poodle and 25% Golden Retriever if it's backcrossed to a Poodle. It would be a 4th-5th generation Goldendoodle.

    • @WeLoveDoodles

      I think you commented the same question twice. But if you didn't see the first response: It depends on the generation of the dad. The Mom is an F1 Goldendoodle. The Dad is likely an F1B Goldendoodle since your puppy doesn't shed. That would make your puppy F2B. Some people would also call this a multi-gen.

      Probably best just to call it a multi-gen. It would technically be an F3 Goldendoodle but most people say multi-generational.

      @@misses4439 if you don’t know the generation of the parents, you can’t know the generation of the child. In your case, if both parents are F1 Goldendoodles, then your offspring will be F2. If the parents are F2 then the offspring is multi-gen.

    My 10 year old son has severe allergies to dogs!😩😭 I found a breeder who is selling us an F1B Goldendoodle on Thursday!🙌🏾🥰 Do you think my son's chances are better with this kind of dog as far as his allergies go?

    • @WeLoveDoodles
      @WeLoveDoodles  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's always a toss up. I would look to pick the curliest hair doodle of the litter and see how your son does. You can always help lower the allergies by always brushing your dog and giving them frequent baths.

      @@krugy562 I would highly recommend not getting an F2 since they will be 50% Golden Retriever. This is a very high chance that they shed dander which is one of the main sources that cause allergies. Anyways, I’m sure you’ll make it work either way. Just be sure to brush them a lot with frequent baths if you allergies start to flair up!

    • @WeLoveDoodles
      @WeLoveDoodles  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It would be an F2BB but you should disclose it was backcrossed to a Golden Retriever. Most breeder backcross to a Poodle because they are nonshedding and hypoallergenic.

      @@Traviiiie it’s hard to tell without genetic testing. Backcrossing to a GR is more prone to shedding. So it would be less nonshedding and not hypoallergenic.

    What’s hybrid vigor?

    • @WeLoveDoodles
      @WeLoveDoodles  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Purebred dogs are typically inbred to each other. When you create a mixed breed, you use two different dog breeds so they aren’t inbred to each other. Mixing genetic traits is a good thing and called hybrid vigor. It’s the same reason humans don’t inbred with their family.

    Hard pass on anything less than 50% Golden Retriever, shame breeders don't breed them with a larger percentage Golden. Sorry but Poodle hair is ugly, I don't care if it's hypo allergenic. If you're going to get a dog that's 75% poodle, why not just get a poodle?

    • @WeLoveDoodles
      @WeLoveDoodles  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Chris! People like the temperament of the Golden more than the Poodle. There's a higher demand for nonshedding dogs, so people tend to backcross to a Poodle.

  • @CoffeeNo0b0514

    Why would an F1B have to be an inbred line? Why can’t you backcross to a 100% Poodle from an entirely different line?

    • @WeLoveDoodles
      @WeLoveDoodles  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry for the confusion. It doesn't necessarily have to be inbred. Many breeders will backcross with a 100% Poodle from a different line.
