The Zune HD and the ipod touch are both great devices. One is not better than the other - it is all about personal preference. The Zune HD does bring some new things to the table, like the OLED display, HD radio, 720p video output, etc. Apple will no doubt counter these new features with ones of their own in the next version of the touch.
This year for Christmas I am asking for the newer version of the iPod Touch. And the Zune HD is in fact my fall back in-case I don't get the iPod. Thus why I am watching this! And I must say the monthly music pass thing seems awesome! And very worth it!
The thing that makes the Zune Pass worthwhile to me is that you get to choose 10 songs a month to keep permanently as part of the $14.99 subscription. It would cost you $13 to buy 10 songs on iTunes. So for $2 extra you get to have access to every song in the Zune store plus you get to keep 10 songs of your choosing.
if youre buying a music player for music, get the Zune HD. If your buying a music player for everything except music, buy an ipod touch. I own both the iPhone 3G S and Zune HD and I prefer my Zune HD for listening to music as it has longer battery life, has the cool screensaver playing in the background, has artist background, bio, and pics, has a OLED screen, display looks better, HD Radio, and can play videos in higher quality and output HD video.
So overall, both are great devices, and if you cant afford both (which I highly recommend), go for what you care more about. If you need a device that can be very useful for multitasking and apps, with the decent music experience, buy the ipod/iphone. If you want a device that can do slight multitasking (just internet browsing and few apps) with the best music experience that a PMP can provide, buy the Zune HD. One more thing, the Zune has a faster Wi-Fi than the ipods.
there is a new feacher for Zune, you tap the Artist name on top of the album in play view, then give a second to load, then it tell you the Artist Bio, picture (the ones for the background), Related Bands, songs, albums that you and marketpleace haves. and this does not require Internet
Apple should utilize animation more in its software. It's hardware is always beautiful, and the software is usually pretty nice, but cool little animations always look awesome.
The Windows phone operating system was based of the original Metro Zune and Zegoe UI, tbh if it wasnt for Zune we wouldnt have windows 8 and Microsoft's metro ui, love zune amazing design wouldnt you agree ?
I like the zune because it focuses on the music listening part of it that is not the same feeling as the touch which is just on games and the wow factor not really the part that you use most.
how do you play all artist? if i click on one artist that has one song it won't go to the next one. have to go back to the menu and select another artist. I've noticed with songs it works.
im really not a apple fanatic and i purchased the zune hd this past wednesday and when i compared it to the out of the box experience of the touch i was deeply disappointed. nothing worked unless it was plugged up to your computer. at least with my wife's touch i could connect to my wifi and adjust the settings.
This device really is for those who dont think mp3 players should be raped by apps i have a zune 8, and i love all the software and layout, i definitely prefer it versus the memory eating iTunes The hardware is way nice (at least on my 8, ive never used an HD) and very intuitive all in all, i like it better (much better) than any of the apple mp3 players
some people really need to calm down, If you love music and want to discover new stuff and watch movies in better quality go for zune. If you want everything in lower quality else get an iPod. PS...Apple only made an app store because they were pissed that people were jailbreaking their ipods.
I thought he said you only get to keep 10. It is a good deal for some but after a few years and a few future Zune devices eventually you might switch to a different platform possibly the iPod Touch 8G or something ridiculous and you only a have a handful of tracks(if you can even play them on non-Zune devices) you got to keep out of the 100s of dollars you spent.
Dude... when the iPod toucch first came out, it didn't even have an App Store, so just give the Zune some time... but at the same time, I really do like the App store on iPod Touch haha
@xFlameOfHellx The Zune HD doesn't have youtube in its web browser, but that doesn't matter. this is far better for listening to music for a good price
Personally, ive owned a Zune HD its awesome for music, Zune Pass is amazing, but i really love apps, and i have a rhapsody subscription, which allows me to download all the music i want for about the same price as a zune pass on my i touch. But i do indeed like the layout of the Zune HD. Unfortunately, my zune was defective. And i no longer have it. :/
That wouldn't be much of an issue if Zune was the near-perfect media player. The button on the side is odd, owners have said a volume rocker would've been smarter. And there are no playback controls on the main screen or something also. The big problem is that the 32GB model is very close in price to the ipod touch's, but without the apps and refinement. And you need a $89 dock to display HD video.
i bought the ipod nano 5g..but i wil pick up the new ipod touch next year unless microsoft smartens up and brings both the market place and the zune to canada in atleast a year
I have an ipod Touch, but honestly, I'd much better have Zune HD. Only BIG thing Touch does better than the HD right now is pretty much the apps. But I really don't care for the apps. I would rather have high quality screen, HD streaming, and arguably better audio quality. I don't even use my ipod that much during a day, so battery life isn't really an issue either.
I find it funny when people complain about an MP3 player because the web browser sucks or there is no apps. Clearly Microsoft is simply trying to put out a quality music player and not really much more.
well thats the point. they wanted to compete with the iPod Touch, and make a better version pretty much. I would say that 30% of all people who have an mp3 player use something other then the iPod, which means about 70%, which is almost 3 fourths, of people use an iPod of some sort. Microsoft wanted to change that, and actually make a decent competitor to the iPod, so they pretty much made a better version of the it.
More like the zune service, I see it coming to all windows mobile 7 phones as well as pc/ xbox. and who knows they might make a phone /media device something like the iPhone.
I agree, they really need to edit their videos more professional for example, set sound to 80% throughout the whole video, JUST A TIP, as i stop my ears from bleeding.
wait... he said people can't create their own Apps... but there already some games created by the public for the Zune HD using a new version of XNA... correct me if i'm wrong though...
Man, I own one, and after doing some basic browsing on the web, it already went dont 3 pixels (the battery indicator). I've even got the 32GB 2G iPod Touch; the iPod Touch with the best battery life! I think it's iPhone OS 3.1+ (in general)....
yeah sorry 10 my bad you dont have to do the zune pass you can just buy the tracks without the 15 a month deal the zune pass is good if you wanted to try out some new music say you wanted to listen to some lady gaga but then thought it was dumb after a week of listening to it... you get what i mean?
this is actually really cool but unfortunately the lack of options and customization outweigh the screen's capabilities and i feel like in their attempt to keep things simple they've "stripped out the a/c, stereo, and rear seats" in a reference to cars. i'm gonna have to give it to ipod for this round -_-
too bad they didnt add some really really good calc application...i can imagine with this graphic this device has some powerful hardware and with this beautiful display im sure they could do some amazing charts etc...it would be quite awesome have mp3 player with scientific calc...
This is the best I've seen for Zune. Thank you.
This year for Christmas I am asking for the newer version of the iPod Touch. And the Zune HD is in fact my fall back in-case I don't get the iPod. Thus why I am watching this!

THE OFFICE FOR THE WIN!
This device is so nice!

@NSODoverBoy Your music folder has a folder for all your itunes media. Music, podcast, etc. So you could do an easy transfer
there is a new feacher for Zune, you tap the Artist name on top of the album in play view, then give a second to load, then it tell you the Artist Bio, picture (the ones for the background), Related Bands, songs, albums that you and marketpleace haves. and this does not require Internet
in my opinion, it's beautiful
this acutally looks really really nice compared to the ipod touch. but it seems like the ipod touch is simpler to use...
Epic x-mas decision: ipod touch or zune hd?
Umm just to let you know the ipodtouch didnt have an appstore in the beginning....
Great video although you can pause live radio on the latest iPod nano which came out before
Heroes and the Office are my favorite shows!
Audioslave is also very good!
Apple should utilize animation more in its software. It's hardware is always beautiful, and the software is usually pretty nice, but cool little animations always look awesome.

1. How much dose it cost?
2. Did it come out already?
I like the zune because it focuses on the music listening part of it that is not the same feeling as the touch which is just on games and the wow factor not really the part that you use most.
Is the Zune HD bluetooth capable?
does it have speakers?
how do you play all artist? if i click on one artist that has one song it won't go to the next one. have to go back to the menu and select another artist. I've noticed with songs it works.
Can't wait for the 64gb zhd to come out. My ipod classic just died after 8 months.
the very new one? likje the one with the camera?
do u need wifi to listen to radio?
Wait
does this have a built in speaker?
i dont want to have to be carring headphones everywere
if not,ill just get the iPod Touch
is there anyway to put your intunes song on your zune?
Will it work with a mac ? because i only use a mac...
they are very cool, and theres an app for almost everything
Is it possible to view youtube video's ??
is there a speaker
the zunepass...does it let you burn cd's?
does normal FM radio works too?
@richyman416 did u get ur zune yet?
cant you pause radio on the new Nano?
But did it right when it came out? No. So why bash the HD for not having something Apple took years to develop?
im really not a apple fanatic and i purchased the zune hd this past wednesday and when i compared it to the out of the box experience of the touch i was deeply disappointed. nothing worked unless it was plugged up to your computer. at least with my wife's touch i could connect to my wifi and adjust the settings.

all in all, i like it better (much better) than any of the apple mp3 players
no, it uses radio waves, even for the HD radio.
some people really need to calm down, If you love music and want to discover new stuff and watch movies in better quality go for zune. If you want everything in lower quality else get an iPod. PS...Apple only made an app store because they were pissed that people were jailbreaking their ipods.
The iPod touch once had no speaker, no microphone, no apps at all. Was it a piece of crap?
I thought he said you only get to keep 10.
It is a good deal for some but after a few years and a few future Zune devices eventually you might switch to a different platform possibly the iPod Touch 8G or something ridiculous and you only a have a handful of tracks(if you can even play them on non-Zune devices) you got to keep out of the 100s of dollars you spent.

yes as long as the format is usable by the zune you should be ok.
oh wow 93.7 is the station that i listen to!
There IS a Zune HD app developers kit and it's what the Xbox 360 uses:
XNA
@xFlameOfHellx The Zune HD doesn't have youtube in its web browser, but that doesn't matter. this is far better for listening to music for a good price
does the zune have password protect like the i pod touch?
Personally, ive owned a Zune HD its awesome for music, Zune Pass is amazing, but i really love apps, and i have a rhapsody subscription, which allows me to download all the music i want for about the same price as a zune pass on my i touch. But i do indeed like the layout of the Zune HD. Unfortunately, my zune was defective. And i no longer have it. :/
isnt this software gonna be on the 360 or something
Does this other guy (not jon) have his own channel? And does the Zune HD have an external speaker?
@a7xmastaxx yeah its a high quality screen and is capable of playing hd 720p videos.
That wouldn't be much of an issue if Zune was the near-perfect media player. The button on the side is odd, owners have said a volume rocker would've been smarter. wait if i paid 15 bucks a month 1 month do i get to keep all the music i downloaded
How could they show the music quality?
So if I download as much music as I want for 1 month and then dont pay it, I cant listen to it anymore? Does it get erased or something?
weres the HD option??
i bought the ipod nano 5g..but i wil pick up the new ipod touch next year
unless microsoft smartens up and brings both the market place and the zune to canada in atleast a year
I have the Zune 30 and the Zune 120. Love this new one but the storage is just too small for me.
I have an ipod Touch, but honestly, I'd much better have Zune HD. Only BIG thing Touch does better than the HD right now is pretty much the apps. But I really don't care for the apps. I would rather have high quality screen, HD streaming, and arguably better audio quality. I don't even use my ipod that much during a day, so battery life isn't really an issue either.
not yet. But they are getting it soon.
if you are asking if you can download music from the device, yes you can.
If you itunes music is DRM free you can add it to the zune just point the software to the correct folder.
really nice, and complete
I find it funny when people complain about an MP3 player because the web browser sucks or there is no apps. Clearly Microsoft is simply trying to put out a quality music player and not really much more.
What is an iTouch?
Damn, that thing is incredibly nice. I think Microsoft may have bested Apple (finally).
okay its just a font, they were bound to come up with it anyways...i just wanna know how microsoft copied apples operating system??
well thats the point. they wanted to compete with the iPod Touch, and make a better version pretty much. I would say that 30% of all people who have an mp3 player use something other then the iPod, which means about 70%, which is almost 3 fourths, of people use an iPod of some sort.

Nice video.
NO OFFENCE INTENDED
hes just trying to get plublicity out he owns it
i know what your saying bu he likes it
More like the zune service, I see it coming to all windows mobile 7 phones as well as pc/ xbox. and who knows they might make a phone /media device something like the iPhone.
dude how the hel did u get teh marketplace on there? i been trying or days so far im very dissapointed with zune hd
Yeah, with the new DJ feature over the Zune Marketplace, copy of iTunes Genius, and the whole pinching to zoom and accelerometer.
nano had radio?
Wow I am getting mine in like 2 weeks.
Ahhhh, this thing is amazing! If only it could run android apppps... :(
Just for style like how most of the letters are cut off depending on what menu u are in.
is that really jon? his vocie is different/
I agree, they really need to edit their videos more professional for example, set sound to 80% throughout the whole video, JUST A TIP, as i stop my ears from bleeding.
wait... he said people can't create their own Apps... but there already some games created by the public for the Zune HD using a new version of XNA... correct me if i'm wrong though...
give the zune hd some time it will have an app store im sure soon. the iphone didnt have apps straight away it was at least a year later till it did
The free apps on the touch/iphone have them too.
Man, I own one, and after doing some basic browsing on the web, it already went dont 3 pixels (the battery indicator). I've even got the 32GB 2G iPod Touch; the iPod Touch with the best battery life! I think it's iPhone OS 3.1+ (in general)....
wow jon listens to audioslave nice!
can you show the music quality
yeah sorry 10 my bad
you dont have to do the zune pass
you can just buy the tracks without the 15 a month deal
the zune pass is good if you wanted to try out some new music
say you wanted to listen to some lady gaga but then thought it was dumb after a week of listening to it... you get what i mean?
why not get a 3rd gen touch
I'd like to see two different channels, one for jon4lakers and one for TechnoBuffulo
if this thing picks up, you're looking at a serious ipod killer.
Oh I didn't know there was a 15 track a onth deal too. That's not too bad then. As long as there is a choice.
I get my music from sound card streaming and download helper. Works just fine for me (:
Muito bom o review, mas acho que a Microsoft focou demais no Hub de mídias quando existe do outro lado a Apple e seu iPod Touch falando que alem de iPod ele também é um ótimo computador de bolso e um ótimo console portátil, fica a pergunta pra Microsoft, cade os jogos e Aplicativos de produtividade?

when it comes to the beauty of the OS the zune absolutely shits on anything apple offers
this is actually really cool but unfortunately the lack of options and customization outweigh the screen's capabilities and i feel like in their attempt to keep things simple they've "stripped out the a/c, stereo, and rear seats" in a reference to cars. i'm gonna have to give it to ipod for this round -_-
Zune HD wins hands down.
too bad they didnt add some really really good calc application...i can imagine with this graphic this device has some powerful hardware and with this beautiful display im sure they could do some amazing charts etc...it would be quite awesome have mp3 player with scientific calc...
cool yo!
that radio option is on the new ipod nano
no speaker? no good apps? but it has radio haha
