@@welon17 I think that what Daigo meant is that a lot of V-ism stuff is just flashyness, like very long combos. Once you reach the skill level at which players can land those combos, every time that one happens the mindgame just stops. No neutral, no zoning, no nothing, just like at least 10 seconds of watching one character bounce. X/A-ism is more pure. It's more about playing neutral/footsies all the time, which unless you really really love street fighter, you might find more boring than doing flashy combos.
EDIT: You don't have to be thaaat hardcore to do v-ism stuff. I can do some v-ism combos (sakura's and ryu's), but I suck at every other aspect of the game. I think that by "hardcore" Daigo means REALLY hardcore people, those who have been playing for years and years.

Would you guys consider Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting fair, just out of curiosity? I love playing that online on the 30th Anniversary Collection. There are one or two seemingly unbalanced characters, but in essence, one can't spam their way or play carelessly to win. You actually have be good, otherwise you get punished for your mistakes.

@@NY-Buddy Super Street Fighter IV was insanely balanced but it was also incredibly boring.
Of course in hindsight it's funny because everyone thought AE would be like a Super Turbo hype mode for SF4 and while it was nutty most people bitched about how good Yun was after popping off that Third Strike was getting representation.
I think the right amount of bullshit needs to be in a fighting game to work. MVC is kind of an extreme example, it was hype and people loved it but it skewed HEAVY in the unfair spectrum. I think SF4 skewed a little too strongly toward fairness overall in it's lifespan. It needs to be a little faster and a little more punishing to players within reason.

I didn't think about all this but after watching this video it makes sense why I like king of fighters so much. And king of fighters 13 specifically capitalizes on all these alternative mechanics to open people up with out heavy reliance on throw.
The hop system allows the high low mixups, similar to vampire savior despite being a bit slower. While also having a guard break option to break the defense of an opponent. Plus it still holds the classic F/B+HP/HK throw option which also reduces the reliance on throws on offense. And to top it off despite all the alternative methods to opening people up throws are still entirely useful which is pretty amazing game design.
All these paired with KOFs great defensive options, guard cancel blowback/roll, fall break, standard roll, all the varied hops. I would say King of Fighters is the King of Fair fighting game mechanics. Although combo wise kof games can tend to be anything but fair lol

Now, as for the V-ism, why not just make it last longer on block only, or nerf the damage on hit? If it was used primarily as a guard-breaking resource only, instead of being equally used to dish out ludicrous damage, then that'd solve the problem.

    • @thejunkmanlives
      @thejunkmanlives 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@wildwest1832 no it wasnt. the fadc/ultra system wasnt balanced for most of the cast. do you have ways to confirm into ultra? do you have good fadc options? do you have good option selects? do you have good frame traps(ie things that blow up crouch techs things that blow up focus back dash)? these are the things that dictated your characters tier position. the first 2 years of that game i played i had no reason to fadc, it was a waste of bar for me. that isnt good design.
regardless of how you feel about 5 consider this. alex is universally seen as low tier. this low tier character has combos for over 50% dmg and gets full use out of the systems core mechanics. is g's v trigger better? of course. but it being better doesnt make alex's trigger less effective. sf5 alex in sf4(with the assumption that he can take full advantage of the systems like he can in 5) would be easily upper mid if not low high tier.
heres a direct comparison. sf4 honda had no reason to fadc. ex headbutt for days and ultra was used to anti air or punish(cant combo). sf5 honda? combing super, ex meter has plenty of options and trigger gives me corner pressure(i can also combo into it). low tier characters in 5 are mid or better in 4.
sf5s problem with normals is one thing, but mechanically 5 is better designed then 4. if you took sf4 normals(with the exception of overhead, 5 overheads are great) with 5 mechanics then you have something.

Daigo basically says sfz 3 would have been perfect if they balanced out the v-ism in another patch. I never really played it, but I really like the idea of a guard crush guage. Its a very good system to force a good mix of defense/offense that is not in a lot of fighting games. So you need to make a decision instead of sitting there blocking for 20 minutes if you can predict the mixups

I always say that. capcom should bring back alot from alpha 3 for street fighter 6. things like air guard, the quick roll after being knocked down, guard break, vism, xism and aism, super guard, etc. I would love to see WORLD TOUR return. it was like a simulation mode and was so fun to upgrade your fighter as you traveled around the world map fighting different fighters in each part and then the boss of that part. seriously, if you didn't play alpha 3 you better download it with an emulator and play it

My friend and I use to play a lot of the Zero series. We both came to like Zero 2 Alpha (aka Alpha 2 Gold) the best. Throws in Alpha 3 are worthless because a very easy tech can reduce the damage to basically a single pixel. I get what Daigo is saying here; that guard crush makes throwing redundant. But if they wanted to make throws this weak, they should have just taken them out of the game. Throws are only effective against new players in this game, so that just makes it harder for newer players to win against better players. Then there's the extreme damage scaling in this game, which makes combo-centric characters weaker than they should be. People say that it's so cool that you can do super moves or custom combos, but you could do BOTH of those in Zero 2; you didn't have to choose between them.

7:18 While what Daigo said is true from the business perspective of selling the game. But a true fighting game fan would never want that. Players that stop playing the game because they can't beat stronger players are just not a true competitive player, they just want quick satisfaction without grinding or practice. Might as well stick to casual games. But the reality is that the gaming industry today is motivated not by making the best game anymore, but rather games that sell, pandering to casual gamers which make up most of the market. And then selling in game purchase or season passes for big money.

In the past I've gone so far with my opinion that I use to tell newcomers to the series "skip the first 2 and just start playing 3". I know that's pretty cynical but that was just MY opinion (not trying to offend anyone). Even with Vism mode.
