Some things about enemy move sets I wanted to add (sorry it being so long): So in Pokemon Red and Blue, the AI will actually always overwrite the THIRD move slot with the custom move (almost always the gym TM). This was likely to broadly not overwrite the "best" move from being overwritten, (although Sabrina actually overwrites Psychic with Psywave, oops), and it makes it so there is one routine that can be used on every Pokemon. This is done to every gym leader's ace, then every elite four member has a move added to their ace's third slot, (Blizzard to Lapras, Fissure to Machamp, Toxic to Gengar, Barrier to Dragonite). The only trainer with multiple Pokemon with custom moves is the champion, where the lead Pidgeot is given Sky Attack AND the starter is given Fire Blast/Blizzard/Mega Drain. Pokemon Yellow overhauls this and expands the overwriting to allow Pokemon to not only overwrite any move they want, but as many moves as they want. I won't list every change because many bosses have fully custom moves on multiple Pokemon as discussed in the video, but there are actually two cases of Pokemon Yellow adding moves to generic trainers: One is in Viridian Forest, where a Metapod is given tackle and string shot on one bug catcher. This is probably to just show the player that Metapod can learn other moves if they had not yet caught one. The other, which is far weirder, is a Youngster on Route 9 whose Sandshrew is given fissure. This one genuinely baffles me, especially considering how stingy they were with making use of this mechanic. The fact this is one of TWO CASES of adding custom moves to generic trainers and its this? I dunno. I guess its funny, so thats a good enough reason. (Edit: it is possible the intention was to add Earthquake, one index ABOVE Fissure, or Dig, one index BELOW Fissure. Obviously can't confirm though.) tldr Pokemon Yellow overhauled custom movesets on trainers and so a random Youngster runs Fissure on Sandshrew. For a more in depth explanation, check out the gamefaqs page on RBY AI, as that's where I learned all this and more. If you're interested in RBY, PLEASE check it out its a great resource.
The Route 9 Sandshrew with Fissure is actually because of the Anime, in which a trainer with Sandshrew used the move, the Metapod in Viridian probably shares a similar story but I did not delve into that. Yellow was meant as an "Anime adaptation" of Red/Blue.
@@PC-ni6bp Yeah, the Metapod might be a reference to the Samurai that Ash meets in Viridian Forest. If true, then it is weird that he lacks his Pinsir.
That Trainer in the anime is "AJ" and he says somewhat the same dialogue from the anime, owning his own gym and trying to get 100 wins with only his Sandshrew. 🤓
Omg I remember that Sandshrew! I haven't played Yellow in ages but I remember being baffled at how a random Sandshrew in the early game just had a OHKO move lol
I started Pokémon in 1998 with Red at the age of 5. I got Yellow, then Gold and then Crystal from my parents. The differecne between Yellow and Blue/Red is a more different experience than Crystal to Gold/Silver. Yellow also was the first step in friendship mechanics as you Said. You wont get the Bulbasaur if the Pikachu isnt Happy. I've never noticed that because I got the Bulbasaur always immediately as a kid. Its amazing how much you can learn even after being 26 years in Pokemon as an adult by watching your videos also
3:27 I find the subtle narrative here very interesting though. If you’re electric type loses to him twice then he has no respect for electric types and takes a water type. If you beat him once but not twice his cautious enough of your Pikachu not to take Vaporeon. If you’ve beaten both times you convince him electric types are awesome and so he gets one for himself.
That assumes the anime production staff didn't discuss with the game devs. But also, while that can explain Blaine and Giovanni being different from their anime counterparts, it's a stretch to say they changed gym leader teams to match their anime counterparts anyway. It's hard to judge and compare attacks and levels to the anime, and that's all that changed for Brock and Misty, they otherwise have the same teams as in Red and Blue. Surge drastically changes to match by just having Raichu, and Erika... Slightly changes to match by devolving Victreebel and Vileplume. Koga changes from 2 Koffing, a Muk, and a Weezing to 3 Venonat and a Venomoth, but in the anime he used one Venonat that evolved into Venomoth right away and used a Golbat he just doesn't have in Yellow. Similarly, Sabrina goes from Kadabra, Mr. Mime, Venomoth, and Alakazam to Abra, Kadabra, and Alakazam, a significant change... That doesn't fully match her anime team, which is a single Abra that she evolves into a Kadabra in the middle of Ash's first battle with her. Even if we count the Abra as a reference to that evolution, she never had an Alakazam. So both Koga and Sabrina changed their teams quite a bit, but don't quite match their anime teams, despite the fact both appeared about a year before Yellow released (based on Japan releases for episodes and games). So 2 match without changing from Red and Blue, 2 change from Red and Blue without really matching, one changes drastically to match, and one changes slightly to match. And with a track record like that, Blaine and Giovanni not fully matching their anime counterparts still works for them to reference their anime teams. Blaine gains the Ninetales from his anime team, and his anime team included a Rhydon for some reason so of course that would be changed for the games anyway, just like how Koga doesn't have the Voltorb he was shown to have in the anime. Giovanni's team barely changes from Red and Blue, swapping his Rhyhorn for Persian, but he did give Jessie a Rhydon to use when she filled in for him, and it makes sense they wouldn't give him the Machamp he also gave her to use, the Kingler he used against Gary and gave her to use, or the Mewtwo he used against Gary. Blaine's changes look similar to Koga's changes in terms of referencing his anime team, and Giovanni's somewhere between Brock or Misty and Sabrina in terms of how the team changed.
@@Kahadi I thought the common fan theory was that Koga's Yellow team was supposed to be the same Venonat, being sent out several times, until it evolved like in the anime. Though I can't actually find any evidence supporting the theory, or even a mention of it online anymore. I know there were comments about this on other videos about Yellow though... or maybe from an old Did You Know Gaming video... I actually don't remember where I first heard about the theory.
Apart from Nidoran getting double kick, you can catch a Mankey in the grass west of viridian city, where rival 1a is, and it learns low kick in yellow. Brock is really easy actually
@@everythingpony No, that would not make for a very interesting video. Anyone can look up routes on Bulbapedia, the goal to talk about many in detail and provide insight and analysis.

A romhack of Yellow has just been released - Pokemon Pink. Gameplay is pretty much identical other than Clefairy replaces Pikachu and you have the option to play as a girl
Isn't that from the tera leak? Because your comment sounds like the rumours from earlier Gamefreak leaks from a few years ago - including the supposed name Pokémon Pink
one should also note that they wanted to fix a lot of bugs that have to do with moves in battle but they couldnt do that because then yellow could not play with red and blue
Something I learned from watching Pokéguy: after fighting the Karate King in Giovanni’s gym, it’s much faster to exit and come back in (which will move him back out of the way) rather than taking the spinning tiles to go around him
27:11 i think this might be because people didn’t realize there were quizzes to do and just talked to the trainers - the machine in the corner kind of looks like decoration if you don’t know what it's for
Yes this is the obvious explanation. Jrose seemed utterly confused by the various mechanics that forced the player to "properly" address the game. Automatically walking up to Bill was another one -- when I first reached Bill's place as a ~5 year old kid, I was confused for a bit because it wasn't clear to a kid who is barely reading/comprehending things that I needed to talk to various machinery or whatnot.
My solution to this is to shamelessly abuse the mew glitch to fill out the version exclusives/choice exclusives (and perhaps maybe a single taurus because they're f*$#@n impossible to catch in the safari zone lol).
The Cerulean trade was replaced by the gift bulbasaur, as was the Vermillion trade for squirtle. Jynx is now unavailable in Yellow. Farfetch'd is wild on routes 12 and 13, albeit rarely.
@@Trelior Yikes. A grade A pedant who can't even punctuate their sentences properly. You must be such a massive chore to have a conversation with in real life.
"Blaine doesn't have Magmar". There's a simple explanation for this: that episode didn't exist yet. Yellow was released on Sept 12. 1998. Volcanic Panic was released in August 20; which, yes, is earlier, but consider production time for the game, they simply had no anime to go off of yet. Sabrina and Koga were the last ones to be based on the anime, and their episodes were probably in production at the same time as Yellow.
I might've missed it but being able to get a pikachu that can learn surf and the minigame Pikachu's Beach House is different. Surf might be interesting for a challenge.
The minigame is only available if you have a Pikachu with Surf (unless you're on VC), and Pikachu with Surf is only available through Stadium or an event, even back in Yellow. While it could be interesting to use a Pikachu with Surf in a challenge run, the minigame doesn't really work for challenge runs nor can you really consider it as a difference in this context since it wouldn't be available in most challenge runs.
Yellow makes all the gym battles and elite 4 a bit more difficult in terms of higher levels and switching some Pokémon around but Yellow also makes it easier with catching Pokémon since many either had their frequency increased (safari zone rare Pokémon), higher leveled wild Pokémon and rare Pokémon such as Kadabra being available in the wild Another example is using the super rod past route11 to get a lv 40 Seadra Also the infamous trading a Cubone for a Machoke to get a Machamp
I remember back in the day, I rented pokemon yellow and when I had to return it, I deviously released every pokemon (pikachu included) except an untrained magikarp and left that save file for whoever next rented the game
I think the changed the trade to a Machoke to demonstrate Trade Evolutions to players, think about, its the first generation and most of us were kids and likely didnt know much about them.
This is why Koga has a Venonat/Venomoth team because that's what he used in the anime. Persian was Giovanni's pet(?) hence why he has it in Yellow. Sabrina in the anime only used the abra, kadabra and alakazam team but Ash never got to alakazam and cheesed that gym badge later on. Brock's Onix I believe used Bind on Pikachu there hence why he has it in Yellow. Also if I remember correctly Gary shows off his Eevee from time to time and we don't find out which starter he picked until Johto when his Blastoise goes up against Ash's Charizard.
It’s MissingNoXpert, no E. But yes, they have completely different Glitchdexes and Yellow’s are a lot more intriguing in many ways given how bad some of them can be on paper… But, hopefully, none of the glitch Pokémon will soon be only a pipe dream for solo runners, if I have my way. It’s just taking me a lot of work!
Absolute legend! I actually tried making my own MissingnoXpert-inspired Lets Glitch video series based on Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past but never actually finished any of it lol
I got to say, the amount of times that I got absolutely blasted by that pika, when you first catch him is probably why I can't hear a certain frequencies anymore
And Strength. He's a good HM Slave in R/B and a great one with Fly in Yellow You only need Flash during really specific moments and you'll have SOMETHING that can and should learn Surf
I was always confused about the big level gaps in Pokémon yellow and great job explaining the differences between red/blue and yellow and keep up the amazing work Jrose
One relatively minor but cool change is that they changed some NPCs to have the same movesets as some characters of the day of the anime. The Giovanni battle was the last episode to air in Japan before the release, but I think they could only make it up to Koga which is why Blaine is different and certain major trainers like Ritchie do not appear because he came later.
Actually, the episode Battle For The Badge, where Gary gets creamed by Giovanni's Mewtwo, debuted 5 days *after* Yellow released in Japan. The most recent episode as of the release was Clefairy Tales, where Team Rocket fakes alien abductions. As for Blaine being different, while it did air only a month prior to the release of Yellow, thus too late to refer to, that actually assumes the anime production team and game devs didn't talk to each other about things. Anime episodes tend to take 2 months to produce, on average. And Blaine does suddenly gain a Ninetales, which he has in the anime but not in Red and Blue. Looking at the other characters, even Koga and Sabrina only slightly reference their anime teams, they don't match them like Surge or Erika (not counting Brock or Misty since their team compositions didn't change from Red and Blue and their moves don't seem to better reflect their anime gym battles). Just giving him a Ninetales still works as a reference to the anime, even if Magmar was the bigger deal.
@@Kahadi Yeah, but when you factor in they still needed to bug test and ship the game weeks prior to the launch, it really does add up they could only go up to Koga, because Blaine having Ninetales but not Magmar really looks like a shot in the dark because R/B treated his Arcanine as his ace. And even if Koga and Sabrina aren''t 1:1, the anime influence is still obvious.
This was a great video I know this probably started as a response to the question ‘why do you do runs in red and blue and not yellow’ but I don’t know, after doing so much work towards red and blue, it’s like you wanted to show some consideration towards yellow as a part of generation 1 I respect it
As someone who does solo Yellow challenge runs, I want to add some personal comments here as pertains specifically to solo challenge runs. #1 - When playing a solo run with a different starter Pokemon, you cannot obtain the Bulbasaur from the girl in Cerulean City, as it requires the starter Pikachu for the friendship check. Without having this Pikachu, there is no way to activate the triggers. #2 - Although most people often nab the Lapras in Silph Co for your Strength and Surf use, you can teach these same HM's to Squirtle as well. This is also helpful if you're using a weaker solo Pokemon, and Rival Fival brickwalls you, preventing you from obtaining Lapras for Surf/Strength. I usually grab the Squirtle to fulfill this need in my runs, however Lapras serves as a good backup in case you forget.
As a kid I went into sabrinas gym with a lv24 charmeleon wanting to try his new move rage against sabrinas lv50 abra with only flash, I got super trolled into a pretty much infinite battle as I couldnt switch and rage kept missing. I've later heared that rage almost always misses if the user has its accuracy dropped
Good stuff! I like how you compared the speed of the different runs instead of just listing the wiki differences. A bit of feedback: It was hard to follow at times because there were a lot of small changes like lvls and movesets. It could have been easier to follow if you had kept the same template for each difference like sometimes you said "blue first then yellow" and sometimes you said "yellow first then blue" so my brain could never anticipate or assimilate the information while you were saying it because I didn't know if you were talking about the old or new information. And it was similar for the visuals, you didn't always show old vs new stuff in the same order and there was no easy way to see which information you were showing us (having a yellow background for yellow content would have been nice instead of having to read the small word "Yellow" at the top of each screenshot). It would have been nice also to find a way to display the before/after movesets in the same screen. But anyway, it was interesting nonetheless.
Very minor but interesting thing: this is the video where I discovered that JRose uses "less" when you're supposed to use "fewer." This is not a big deal at all, but I get slightly derailed when people do it. Less applies to things that can be thought of as a continuous amount of things, like water, sand, money. Fewer applies when you have discrete items that aren't part of a larger whole, such as books, encounters, or potions. "Brock poses less difficulty in Yellow." "Surge has fewer pokémon after all the demotions in Red and Blue."
Funny I really never find mistakes on the distinction annoying, but I do find distinctions on "uninterested" (not interested; bored) and "disinterested" (not having a vested interest; unbiased) to be extremely so. People confusing one-word adjective/nouns (game setup, login portal) with their respective verbs (to set up the game, to log into the portal) is another one that grinds my gears. And my #1 one is when people use "anyways," which isn't a word. The correct word is "anyway."
It isn't a mood. It's how the mechanic works. Repel only blocks encounters with pokemon lower level than your lead pokemon. Go to Diglett Cave with a lv24-lv28 pokemon, pop a repel, and walk. 100% chance that any encounter found will be a Dugtrio
@@far2ez yes ive played pokemon for 20 years i understand how the game works. my point is its still unlikely, and fairly unlucky, that the first patch of grass he hit would be an encounter
Fun thing about Rival 5val, was for first time play throughs, with no guide, that most kids would have switched an electric Pokémon/pikachu first for whatever level Fearow would be at thinking they were putting good strategy after the last rival battles, just to be hit with a 10 level jump from 25 Fearow to 35 sandslash. Meant either electric got decimated or switching out to water would get sand-attack spammed at a speed disadvantage. Fun change for those first time play through.
Lots of the overworld tiles have also been changed in Yellow: windows, doors, signs, bushes, grass, water, fenceposts, guardrails etc. And many of those were changed yet again in GSC when you get to revisit Kanto.
hey that auto-talk to Bill bit - you just triggered a core memory of me playing Red for the first time when it came out and getting stuck in Cerulean City because I had freed Bill but didn't speak to him, and I had to brute force my way forward by clicking on EVERYTHING until I eventually talked to Bill again.
There's also some quirks in yellow version. In rock tunnel if you have Pikachu you can light up the tunnel thus making flash useless(even more than it already was). Also in terms of battles there's a few minor trainers with different moves such as the guy in Viridian forest who starts with a Metapod with harden and the trainer with the Sandshrew with fissure. As they were supposed to represent trainers from the anime. They also gave the champion eggeexcutor a fourth move as well as had the Sandshrew line to specifically counter Pikachu. And that Magneton can be a absolute menace if left unchecked. Also with better move coverage and higher levels, a lot less mons can minimum battles the game.
I think there IS one major thing about the Champion's Flareon team that is being overlooked in the case of solo runs. Exeggutor with Leech Seed and Hypnosis into Magneton as a special wall with Thunder Wave into Cloyster as a physical wall with Clamp (Gen 1 trapping move mechanics) is a LOT of opportunity for Leech Seed to just drain your life away, especially with how well the two following mons can eat hits with that extra regen and is honestly a rare example of cross-mon synergy in a team.
It’s always funny to hear you talk about the oversight of always using super effective moves even if they’re status moves in red blue and yellow but after watching your sword and shield run the other day, they obviously haven’t made many adjustments. Watching all the fire Pokémon spam on centiskorch with flash fire was hilarious and ridiculous at the same time.
you know, it would be much more fun if the rival instead got 2 choices between electabuz, jinx and magmar. i feel like they pass that idea of power he is trying to show much better.

Pokemon Yellow overhauls this and expands the overwriting to allow Pokemon to not only overwrite any move they want, but as many moves as they want. I won't list every change because many bosses have fully custom moves on multiple Pokemon as discussed in the video, but there are actually two cases of Pokemon Yellow adding moves to generic trainers:
One is in Viridian Forest, where a Metapod is given tackle and string shot on one bug catcher.
Obviously can't confirm though.)
tldr Pokemon Yellow overhauled custom movesets on trainers and so a random Youngster runs Fissure on Sandshrew.
@Velgre666 Oh wow, that's actually really cool. I never knew there was an actual basis for that.
I like that explanation lol
Yeeeh😮
Jrose: The early rivals are easier, because the starter isn't type-advantaged
Any sane person: THAT'S WHAT THE SANDSHREW IS FOR!
Yellow version only released a month after the Blaine episode, so the production staff would have had no idea what his anime team would be!
@Kahadi that's a lot of words for someone with no evidence
I thought I mentioned that, but of course going over *every* Pokemon change per route would be insanely time consuming.
Isn't that the point? Pointing out every detail that's different?@@Jrose11
@@everythingpony No, that would not make for a very interesting video. Anyone can look up routes on Bulbapedia, the goal to talk about many in detail and provide insight and analysis.
These specific changes really help with Brock, who is one of the harder gym battles. I'm not sure whether other routes got changes to help make the upcoming gym battles easier though
& You can always raise a Caterpie up to a Butterfree and 🎉 Confusion should be enough to blaze through Brock.
This video is another example of why I love poketubers, the energy and time that mustve gone into this to explain the differences clearly for anyone to understand boggles my mind. Awesome work, keep it up!
A romhack of Yellow has just been released - Pokemon Pink. Gameplay is pretty much identical other than Clefairy replaces Pikachu and you have the option to play as a girl
You know what this means?
…Metronome ONLY!
The original mascot.
@@Pyxis10yup!
Isn't that from the tera leak? Because your comment sounds like the rumours from earlier Gamefreak leaks from a few years ago - including the supposed name Pokémon Pink
@@mike_gevers The hack itself is fan made, but I believe the concept came from that leak.
one should also note that they wanted to fix a lot of bugs that have to do with moves in battle but they couldnt do that because then yellow could not play with red and blue
Something I learned from watching Pokéguy: after fighting the Karate King in Giovanni’s gym, it’s much faster to exit and come back in (which will move him back out of the way) rather than taking the spinning tiles to go around him
Correction: They removed jynx from trade on Cerulean and it's NOT possible to get jynx in yellow.
Blaine doesn't have a Magmar in Yellow because it was made before the anime got that far.
Its got some differences that make it my preference for a gen 1 experience. All the starters being available is the big reason.
Sure. It's not like Ice types were rare in gen 1 to begin with! (that was sarcasm)
@@dawnsbuneary Okay? What does that have to do with the statement of fact of why those trades were "removed"
@Trelior just ranting.
@@Trelior Yikes. A grade A pedant who can't even punctuate their sentences properly. You must be such a massive chore to have a conversation with in real life.
@@Trelior They were clearly just making a funny comment, that by removing Jynx they made an already rare type even rarer...
Nidoran learning Double Kick to help with Brock in Yellow are all I need.
Yellow was always my go to Gen 1 game
Yellow makes all the gym battles and elite 4 a bit more difficult in terms of higher levels and switching some Pokémon around but Yellow also makes it easier with catching Pokémon since many either had their frequency increased (safari zone rare Pokémon), higher leveled wild Pokémon and rare Pokémon such as Kadabra being available in the wild
Another example is using the super rod past route11 to get a lv 40 Seadra
Also the infamous trading a Cubone for a Machoke to get a Machamp
Man, I'm having a tough week and this is exactly the sort of joy I need. Thanks, jrose!
The Japanese version of Yellow introduced the Blizzard Nerf in it's two player mode
4:22 actually they just learn double kick way earlier. They always could learn it.
I remember back in the day, I rented pokemon yellow and when I had to return it, I deviously released every pokemon (pikachu included) except an untrained magikarp and left that save file for whoever next rented the game
Love this content. Would love to see more like this!
I want them to make TM 28 tombstoner from the blaine questions a real thing
Sounds like a rock move
Should’ve been the rock version of flamethrower, ice beam and thunderbolt
Jrose, i look forward to each and every one of your videos. Thanks for doing what you do!
Before crystal is compares. Just gonna say it's existence hurts me for not having mareep in game. Thank you
Preach
I suddenly realized that kanto cities are color names just as jrose was saying the names out loud
On the route before Rock Tunnel, one of the trainers has been changed to be that kid with the tough Sandshrew from the anime. It even knows fissure!
I think the changed the trade to a Machoke to demonstrate Trade Evolutions to players, think about, its the first generation and most of us were kids and likely didnt know much about them.
I believe in the original japanese version of Pokémon Blue you could get both a Gengar and Golem through in-game trading as well.
@ oh that’s nice!
@@Otonio_Brunoand I would just add "effing Mindy"
@@Otonio_Brunoyep that is true
There were strategy guides back in the day with move sets and where to catch all the pokemon. Local grocery stores would sell these.
Your videos are great , thanks mate
26:37 Also, this version was made to commemorate the anime, a good amount of the changes made were done to coincide with events from the anime.
I love the more factual/trivia based videos, reminds me of the catch em all videos from way back when.
MissingnoExpert knows there is a difference
Actual legend
It’s MissingNoXpert, no E.
But yes, they have completely different Glitchdexes and Yellow’s are a lot more intriguing in many ways given how bad some of them can be on paper…
But, hopefully, none of the glitch Pokémon will soon be only a pipe dream for solo runners, if I have my way.
It’s just taking me a lot of work!
Rip to a real one. He ran whilst others walked
Missingnoxpert? I haven't heard that name in quite a long time.
Absolute legend! I actually tried making my own MissingnoXpert-inspired Lets Glitch video series based on Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past but never actually finished any of it lol
I needed this video 20 years ago, but I'm happy to have it now!
The nostalgia your videos bring back. Priceless.
Professor JRose
I got to say, the amount of times that I got absolutely blasted by that pika, when you first catch him is probably why I can't hear a certain frequencies anymore
I've been refreshing for the last hour waiting for this :)
Fuckin great timing. I could say. Justin Time.
In yellow Charizard can learn cut fly and dig so Charizard is 1 of yellows HM slaves
Charizard is a beast is Yellow. Fly, Swords Dance, Earthquake and Flamethrower. No need to use it as an HM slave
@@tigeryumyums9407 for clarification I was only joking about using it as a hm slave just that he has the utility
And Strength.
He's a good HM Slave in R/B and a great one with Fly in Yellow
You only need Flash during really specific moments and you'll have SOMETHING that can and should learn Surf
I believe another difference is that there are Mankeys on Route 22, near Brock.
Watching you run away from that Clefairy hurt my soul.
Finally getting to watch this holy day of Jrose. Planning on mkaing at least the first 12 days into an actual 12 days of Christmas parody
I've never been on a video drop so early. You da man jrose
Following Pokemon exist in Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, albeit a select few in the Amity Square.
There's a couple more references to the anime, like some random trainers mirror anime trainers
You missed the greatest opportunity to release a 5 second video just saying “yes” and then uploading this after.
Tbh it would've been 10/10 trolling to make 1 day of the month just a YT short.
ADHD version
Unfortunately, it would murder his metrics.
I was always confused about the big level gaps in Pokémon yellow and great job explaining the differences between red/blue and yellow and keep up the amazing work Jrose
You missed that they added the kid with the Sandshrew that knows fissure on the route to Vermillion City.
This was a great video
I know this probably started as a response to the question ‘why do you do runs in red and blue and not yellow’ but I don’t know, after doing so much work towards red and blue, it’s like you wanted to show some consideration towards yellow as a part of generation 1
I respect it
Long day at work. Finally get home. Haven’t even changed out of my work clothes yet. BAM. Jrose vid released 55 seconds ago. He knew
I had NO idea there were as many differences as there were, even some of the more subtle ones. 😊
There were some changes that I actually didn't know. Thanks for sharing them with us.
Jrose putting out back to back bangers, we eating good this month!
Blessed by another upload
As a kid I went into sabrinas gym with a lv24 charmeleon wanting to try his new move rage against sabrinas lv50 abra with only flash, I got super trolled into a pretty much infinite battle as I couldnt switch and rage kept missing. I've later heared that rage almost always misses if the user has its accuracy dropped
Forgot to mention the added encounter of pidgeotto in the virdian forest.
“but if you use a pokemon like mewtwo it honestly doesn’t matter” i mean… yeah that’s usually how that goes
Very minor but interesting thing: this is the video where I discovered that JRose uses "less" when you're supposed to use "fewer."
This is not a big deal at all, but I get slightly derailed when people do it.
Less applies to things that can be thought of as a continuous amount of things, like water, sand, money. Fewer applies when you have discrete items that aren't part of a larger whole, such as books, encounters, or potions.
"Brock poses less difficulty in Yellow."
"Surge has fewer pokémon after all the demotions in Red and Blue."
Hey mr jrose11 I’m in you top 0.2% of listeners this year, keep it up!!!!!
20:35 popping a repel and still getting an encounter 2 steps in is a mood
It isn't a mood. It's how the mechanic works. Repel only blocks encounters with pokemon lower level than your lead pokemon. Go to Diglett Cave with a lv24-lv28 pokemon, pop a repel, and walk. 100% chance that any encounter found will be a Dugtrio
@@far2ez yes ive played pokemon for 20 years i understand how the game works. my point is its still unlikely, and fairly unlucky, that the first patch of grass he hit would be an encounter
The Yellow sprites are still so good looking to me.
I liked the video cause of how much detail I didn’t really need to know about the differences in the versions lol.. puts a lot of effort in his videos
27:00 About Magmar - The game was released about a month after the episode with Blaine, so likely not enough time to make any changes
Jrose how did you miss the part where it tells everyone to subscribe on the sign in pallet town :(
5 days of Jrose posting in a row. I may believe in christmas after this
one thing all three versions share in common is we name the rival something like FARTS or WIENER
I started Yellow Legacy today. Nice timing on the upload :p
hey that auto-talk to Bill bit - you just triggered a core memory of me playing Red for the first time when it came out and getting stuck in Cerulean City because I had freed Bill but didn't speak to him, and I had to brute force my way forward by clicking on EVERYTHING until I eventually talked to Bill again.
JROSE HAS NO CHILL IN DECEMBER
Pikachu can only light up Rock Tunnel if it happens to learn an electric move while you're there, and it's not a permanent Flash.
Ayyy a new jwittz video!
Yes!
One of the games is yellow, the others are red and blue. And green in Japan. Hope this helps!
Thanks for the month of Jrose, Jrose. You’re making my overtime more tolerable 🙏🏾
Loving the rapid fire videos
It’s always funny to hear you talk about the oversight of always using super effective moves even if they’re status moves in red blue and yellow but after watching your sword and shield run the other day, they obviously haven’t made many adjustments. Watching all the fire Pokémon spam on centiskorch with flash fire was hilarious and ridiculous at the same time.
you know, it would be much more fun if the rival instead got 2 choices between electabuz, jinx and magmar. i feel like they pass that idea of power he is trying to show much better.
Jrose11 is honestly one of my favorite commentators on TH-cam. I thoroughly enjoy every video he publishes because of his excellent scripting and speaking style.
This was super interesting!
