    • @LearnUpstairs
      @LearnUpstairs  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, Luciana! Here's how to make the brush into a oblique shape: if you are in version CC or above, it is located on the brushes tab, when you right click it. If you are in older versions, it is on the brush window. Window > Brush
      It is a circle with 4 points at the edges where you can pull in inwards to make it oblique. I hope you understand, that's a hard thing to explain over text 😅

      Thanks Ryan! I found them on Google for free. Just search for watercolor and splatter brushes and you should find plenty.
      You can do a very similar result in illustrator. But it is much harder to achieve this effect. Photoshop is better to deal with this type of situation, and on Illustrator you can have another approach, lots of patterns, different strokes widths, and some other topics.

    • @LearnUpstairs
      @LearnUpstairs  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Rohat! If you are just stepping into this world. I'd suggest Sketchup for sure. The learning curve is faster than 3ds max.
      Until today, I use basically sketchup for all my architecture images and projects. Then of course later I'll jump into Archicad to document it.
      3ds max has so much potential, but it also requires more knowledge and time invested to create outstanding results

    2. When I copy and paste my illustrator arrows into Photoshop, they are line drawings not filled. Yours are filled in white. Why?

    • @LearnUpstairs

      Hey Jester! You can create a custom brush like this. If you draw this symbol on a new file and go to Edit > Define Brush Preset, you can have it as you wish. But I think this one was downloaded from arqui9learn brush set on their website.

      @LearnUpstairs  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jester! Don't worry, I'm here to help. You can drop as many questions as you wish. I'll answer then when possible :)
      Singning in and downloading it takes too much time indeed. What I do is simply print screen and ctrl + v on my photoshop/illustrator file. Then make a selection and mask out or delete outside of the actual color palette area. Therefore I have it fast on my file. Now if you'd like to be 100% accurate on the color hexcode, I'd suggest going the longer route. But if it is just for a quick work, print screen is my way to go.

    This was incredibly frustrating as you showed very few of the commands you were actually doing and went way to fast to tell what is going on, I had to play at 25% speed to even sort of tell what you were doing and multiple time that didnt even work. You did not explain anything. If it where not for a school assignment I would never watch this.

      Usually, the best workflow is the other way around, first, you go to Illustrator and do all of the linework there, and then jump into Photoshop to add extra things

    Nice video, a little too fast to actually follow along or learn much without rewinding several times. Also, you sometimes over simplify the things you talk about with your voice over when they are actually quite complex processes within the software that call for multiple steps. If you would be more clear and walk through those steps with more detail that would be much more informative. The videos you are making are extremely well done and I'd love to learn how you do them though. Thank you!

      Hi José! I really appreciate your feedback. I'll try to work better on this on the future.
      I'm always trying to balance an interesting video with only the important steps highlighted and a more thorough step by step tutorial.
      My solution lately has been to offer the full normal speed video as a separate pack, but without voice over. A full video with voice over wouldn't be a viable solution (time invested x engagement return).
      Well, all that to say that I'm trying to find a sweet spot in these types of videos and really loved your feedback!
      Thanks again! 🙏🙏

      @@LearnUpstairs I actually thought of that while writing my feedback. What if you added a subsegment playlist to your channel that included only the shorter videos on much more detailed and specific workflow concepts. For example, it really intrigues me how you organize your photoshop layers and why, if you made a short 5-8 minute video of something like this, then made a video that applied these concepts while attacking another idea all together it may be more worthwhile.

    I like this but this was quite easy to replicate in Procreate which has an isometric drawing tool. I suppose Sketch starts adding value when you have complex 3D shapes.

      I'm trying to show a workflow, not only the step-by-step to this image. I intentionally got a simple design. If you really learn the techniques that are in this video, any size/complexity will be handled the same way.
      Procreate and the workflow that I applied here are two different things that both can lead into amazing illustrations.

      @@LearnUpstairs I see. I was very quick to pass judgement but now I realise you're doing truly wonderful things with complex sketchup designs in the other videos. Is there any particular video / channel / course you would recommend for becoming more skilled with sketchup for this type of architecture/spatial planning work? Or perhaps you could make a video on it yourself? I'm pretty sure that if you packed the whole thing as a gumroad or udemy course you could make some solid buck out of this as well, the demand for these types of graphics will only grow.

      I'm releasing a course this Sunday, may 12th with all the essentials to create architecture images. It's not focused on the 3d, but more on the visualization part.

      Like I said on the video. I would use only Illustrator and I feel that it is the best tool for this type of drawings.

      @@LearnUpstairs How do You compare Sketchup vs 3Dsmax and other 3D/CAD software?

    • @LearnUpstairs
      @LearnUpstairs  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      IMHO sketchup has an advantage because of its easy usage. With just a couple of moves and clicks you already have a 3D built up, scenes are placed and you can export it rapidly to a post production software.
      In the other hand you've got 3dsmax that is much more technical and the learning curve is steeper, but you get a very realistic result.
      Both programs have their pros and cons, you just gotta see what fits your workflow best. For me, sktetchup still wins, specially because I'm an architect, therefore visualization is just a step in the whole process.
      Hope I could help it! Nice comment 😁

      Hi Jester! Sorry about that. But if I start doing 2 min explanations of this and that. Then the video would always surpass 30 min and nobody would want to sit through half and hour of a sequence diagram. I need to make something that is still time worth for me. Meaning that this is still something I do aside from my day job. And something short and interesting for the viewer. Hope you understand it.
      Anyways... I always help our every comment people drop here. Could you be more specific on the time stamp?

      @@LearnUpstairs Thanks for replying! Thats dead nice. I understand. It's at 3:17 - 3:40. I can make the top part of the arrow. But not sure how you mirrored it to get the bottom half; or how you disconnected the join between the arrow head and the rectangle.

    • @LearnUpstairs
      @LearnUpstairs  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jesterminute9472 Alright, so you're talking about the arrow creation itself. I did fast forward a lot this part because it wasn't the main focus the video. But here are the shortcuts you can use to do like I did.
      To copy the top part to the bottom, you can use ctrl + c / ctrl + v, or drag holding alt to copy.
      To remove only a section of the line, you can use the shortcut C, which is for Scissor I believe. So you can cut the line in multiple pieces and delete it.
      You can use the shortcut A to use the arrow tool that select points, and align the point of the arrow head to the body. Then use the shortcut Ctrl + J to join lines.
      I think that's it! I hope that helps, sorry about not giving too many details about this part. There are many ways to create simple shapes like this. This is just one of many. You could alternatively download an EPS file from flaticon.
      Let me know if you got it!
