Same here, maybe towards the end, I was impressed with how quickly the director got Them back to Derry. But I would've appreciated more time to see their struggles in their adult lives after suppressing such a major childhood trauma for so long and immediately having it return out of nowhere 27 yrs later
I found a lot of the humor to be misplaced and just odd. The movie could not convince me what it wanted to be: horror or tongue-in-check comedy. It was a bit distracting and kinda made me less invested throughout.
There is a correlation between fun/laughing and scares, it’s why people like rollercoasters. It’s why Return of the Living Dead is a masterpiece. It’s why the chair scene in The Thing is awesome. The only part I didn’t like in this was the Paul Bunyon scene. I wasn’t scared by either movie, I was there for the clown and both delivered some freakishly weird scenes that were worth my time. The kids in the first one were constantly ribbing each other and it was repeated in the second movie, but they were now adults..and one was a stand up comedian.
ANT-METAL sorry but the chair scene in the thing was the only scene that tried to be funny it may work for other films like evil dead but in IT chapter 2 it was misplaced the first one didn’t had comedy in between the horror only right after or before the horror but not on the middle of a creepy scene like chapter 2 did some of them worked but the dog in the door scene was misplaced so was the angel song with Eddie and the lepper and other scenes as well
Agreed, this is becoming one of the biggest problems in entertainment these days, way too much slapstick humor & no substance. It makes characters insufferable & it's hard to take things seriously (the musical scene in Stranger Things is another example).

Call it the Marvel Effect: every single scene has to culminate with a snarky one-liner. Watch most movies and TV geared towards younger audiences, and it's prevalent.
Chris:”It’s LOOOOOOONG.... and you can feel it” Me: that’s wha.... Chris:”wow this is really lengthy” Me: That’s What She..... Chris: “I never really feel that length” Me: that’s what she said?
The acting was great, casting was perfect. However, the amount of CGI in this movie is overwhelming. I wasnt even slightly creeped out by the horror scenes. I was entertained but felt like I was rolling my eyes through half of it. It was completely noticeable when the younger characters were edited. I was like, why are their faces all weird and blurry and voices sound so weird? It seemed like bev was the only one noticeably unaltered. I think a C+ is fair
I was hoping that the tone would go darker because they're adult, darker means more that unexpected goosebumps and terror that even adult can't really handle the fear. It just the same shit, straight up from the novel, nothing surprising. I got really sleepy and boring after eddie's flashback with his mom being stuck in that clinic, and then getting more boring afterwards.

Karlo Blažek just like the other one huh? The only scene that frightened me was when Beverly turned around and boom there he is. The whole audience jumped
Well i think they had meaning to them. Pennywise is demonic. He wants to be as scary/difficult/annoying as possible. Apparently that’s not a problem with characters, but it seems like the audience too
I don't think he gave this movie enough credit. It was long but it didn't drag. Bill Hader did indeed carry most of the dialogue. And the cinematography was gorgeous. So much attention to detail in every shot. I would at LEAST bump that C+ to a B-

I agree. The thing is, it's a big book. You're going to need around 5 hours in total anyway. If they tried to fit this into a 120 minute run, they would have to cut out too much and it would ruin the film
I loved this movie just as much if not more than the first one. There was no drag-ons and every scene was related to something important. The funny parts weren't overly done but when it was trying to be funny it did great. This movie had it all the emotion, the horror, the action, the thrill, the comedy and much more. I couldn't ask for more. I had a fun time. Definately better than most modern day horror movies. Great acting plus everyone has an important role in some form. The death scenes were gruesome as I expected. Definately go check it out if you enjoyed the first one.

Imo this film was pretty good in the first half but the other half was boring and predictable af. Some cringes also found its way into the "reunion scene" at the very end. All of my friends, including me, were disappointed. (SPOILER ALERT) The plot itself didn't make sense, especially "how to kill Pennywise". They built the hype up in the first half and then just smashed it with TOO many repetitive scenes that don't even scare anyone. The irony in this film was how they talk about that guy who always writes books with bad ending but now they just imply it to themselves. 5.5/10 for me.
@@ZzDarkShadowKnightzZ I can dig the criticisms but they don't ruin it that much for me. Ragging on Stephen King the whole time for not being able to write a good ending is funny but they indeed still don't have a great one here. Tbh I wouldn't call either film scary anyway. They're creepy and messed up. But never those really tense on the edge of your seat horror films. I just like the story and characters well enough. I was very entertained. But the first one will remain superior in that it will always work as a stand alone film vs this one which will only ever work as an addendum to it.
It was fun, but I felt safe throughout the movie. On the other hand with the first one, I was in a constant state of panic and anxiety and desperately wanted a break from it all, which was AMAZING for a horror movie experience
Yeah but that's not how it works. Most times actors do their thing, and wait like a year or two for the team to edit and market the movie. And if it's successful, they evaluate if it's a good idea to make a second one, and again
@@diegosmurillo Nah there’s no way in hell they weren’t already gonna make the second part. IT isn’t two different stories, it’s one big story that happens to have a major plot setting shift, so it only makes sense to split it into two movies considering how long it is. They wouldn’t just make only the first half of one of King’s most popular stories. And Hollywood is too greedy to pass up the opportunity to make more money even if the movie didn’t do great.
While I do agree that the film felt inconsistent with it's pacing, I think the point of the film (as well as this section of the book) is to emphasize the importance of memories and how we grow from trauma. There is a line Pennywise says towards the end (his exact last line) that I feel emphasizes the growth that some of these characters have gone through. This film is from an adult perspective looking back on their past and re contextualizing it from a new pair of glasses. Certain actions we did as kids (especially with Bill) ring differently as adults. While the theme is not too heavily emphasized, it is something that should still be noticed. And for me, the pacing didn't fully affect my experience. I do agree with the ADR thing though as well as some of the CG.
Bowers ruined the movie for me, whenever I was trying to get into the scenes I just kept imagining what the atmosphere in the car with the zombie was like. They must have been driving for such a long time LOL.
The movie feels very much like a videogame: the introduction of the characters, each character has some quest to complete and the ending where everyone has to work together to beat the end boss. I know the book and miniseries are plagued with the same issues, but this adaptation had the opportunity to improve upon it.
Lol they beat him by hurting his feelings. It’s like the message is that if someone’s bullying you, you should just bully them back. Pretty terrible to be honest. Plus it doesn’t even make sense. He becomes weak and pathetic when they “believe” he is, but then that means that Pennywise should have been harmless to all the kids who thought he was just a normal clown.
@@jamesbell1186 I feel like the main cast's change in perspective could explain why they were able to defeat him. Most of the kids Pennywise seemed to go after were scared or insecure. Now that the gang has grown up and learned to overcome their fears and come to terms with who they are, they gained leverage over him. I agree that the message of bullying those who bully you seems childish, but Pennywise did murder a bunch of innocent kids, so it's justified.
Huh? So damn good? This movie sucked so bad. If you don’t agree you don’t know jack about movies - certainly not enough to talk about “transitions”. Have the courage to admit when something sucks - this film was absolutely terrible.
@@ThePinsa42 I didn't say the movie was great. I said that the transitions were smooth. I agree that the horror was bad and the jump scares pretty awful.
"I thought my Life was a tragedy, but now I realize, it's a Comedy" I honestly have to say I really enjoyed this movie as I watched it last night. Not so much as a Horror Movie (although there were some legit creepy moments) but more as a Comedy. The whole theater was laughing half the time. And it really seems that's what the filmmakers wanted to achieve (for whatever reason)
Exactly! I think part of the "problem" is that people came to this film wanting a replica of the original, but the themes are different in each film and so the films themselves are different to. The first one was about conquering your fears. This one was about "learning to accept the past." So horror isn't the focus as much as sadness, regret, nostalgia, and forgiveness (along with comedy to balance both).
I honestly didn’t mind the parts that were meant to be funny, like Richie’s lines for example. Some people see it as too much comic relief. But I saw it as Richie using jokes as a coping mechanism after a traumatic event, which I thought was a nice touch since he’s a comedian. I’m the same way. That’s how I cope with many horrible things.
Me personally, when I start to get fascinated by the mythos and the work itself I stop being scared of it, in any media. I find "It's" lore and connections to other King's books, especially Dark Tower so fascinating that it's cool instead of being horrifying. So to me it was never about the horror in the first place, it's kinda like an adventure story. Like, Stranger Things is totally inspired by It and it doesn't have a single horror moment.
I got to tell you Chris I didn’t even notice a lot of the stuff you’re complaining about. To be honest I also barely even noticed the run time. Before the movie started I was worried I would but then I was caught up so much in what was going on in the movie I wasn’t even thinking about how much time was left.
Probably he's not really into the movie and just made this content for the sake of making and having a content since a lot of reactors creators will make this one. Same. Everyone who complained the movie was too long shows they really didn’t care for the story of the movie itself or they have a short attention span.
I completely agree. I didn’t notice any of these negatives. I was shocked at what time it was when we got out because it didn’t feel like three hours at all. It definitely deserved more than a C+. This is why I see movies myself instead of relying on the critics lol
Mandy Vin same, from my experience long movies tend to be good actually, for me because if the plot is interesting then the longer the runtime the more it immerses you into the movie.
Neither does Chris. He mentions the Green Mile which is just as long, but it fills EVERY minute and makes it worth it. I'll happily watch a really long movie but if I feel like the movie could have happened in 30 minutes less, I get bored and annoyed.
Finally saw it last night, and YES, "uneven" is the best word for it. It's wonderful in parts, incomprehensible and boring at others. Was it editing? Script? A combination of both? Probably that. But man, I FELT those 2 hours and 45 minutes. I liked it, don't get me wrong, but yes. Uneven.
While I certainly understand the criticisms given I think it was a fantastic movie that delivers solid acting, great scares and incredible emotional moments that triumph over the miniseries in so many ways. The length didn’t bother me because there was a lot of ground to cover and I didn’t feel bored at all with any of the scenes cause I was emotionally invested with these characters. And I’m glad to hear someone finally talk about Pennywise cause I feel people are making Bill Hader overshadow Pennywise too much when Bill Skarsgard still delivers a powerhouse performance.
Great acting doesn’t take from shitty plot and garbage ending, they “believe” he is not scary so he couldn’t hurt them, but the girl with the birthmark believed he was not scary yet he killed her, ok.
@@7mnee365 Interesting point. Probably should have omitted that scene if they were going with that ending. Though I believe that the makers really had no idea how to end It, and flew by the seat of their pants.
Ahil982 yeah I agree, the main thing I disagree with is that I thought it was paced really well! I was surprised when my friend told me there was 40 minutes left, I thought we were only halfway through 😂
It's more noticeable if you watch It Chapter 1 right before Chapter 2 (which is what I stupidly did). I couldn't quite figure out why, but their faces all looked 'off' from the previous movie and Eddie's voice in particular was really raspy compared to the first movie. It was distracting.
SO WILL I. I think the director's cut will be a lot better than this version. This version, even though it was still long, still felt like it was missing a lot.
@the kelly gang Chris can spoil things for me. If he talks about an ending and thinks he's being vague, or a twist in the movie, I can still usually piece it together. So whenever I see a review of his is over 8 minutes I avoid it til after because I know he's going to talk about certain things. This time I still watched because I read most of the book.
yea same. in this movie pennywise was alot more awesome and interesting to me. and i liked that the charecters felt somewhat the same as when they were kids!

@@Anonymous-ht4tt because you're scared of clowns. Pennywise was never scary, just enjoyable to watch.

Welcome to The comedy area
Sure it's long but it's also girthy and that's what matters in the end.
The issue is adults don't really have physical fears, they have social fears. Losing your job is far more frightening than a scary clown in your town.
I was hoping that the tone would go darker because they're adult, darker means more that unexpected goosebumps and terror that even adult can't really handle the fear. It just the same shit, straight up from the novel, nothing surprising. I got really sleepy and boring after eddie's flashback with his mom being stuck in that clinic, and then getting more boring afterwards.

they could have avoided the age problem by filming the movies back to back instead of waiting
Yeah but that's not how it works. Most times actors do their thing, and wait like a year or two for the team to edit and market the movie. And if it's successful, they evaluate if it's a good idea to make a second one, and again
They were probably unsure of how successful the first movie would be to go ahead and Green light the 2 movies back to back.
They had a low budget for the first, because they weren’t sure on it performing.
Just the scenes with the kids could be filmed at on time. If you don't do that you can use deepfakes to de-age.

"I thought my Life was a tragedy, but now I realize, it's a Comedy"
I honestly have to say I really enjoyed this movie as I watched it last night.
It was the best comedy of 2019
Basically.

I'll happily watch a really long movie but if I feel like the movie could have happened in 30 minutes less, I get bored and annoyed.
It's the pacing thats the issue. Endgame was a three hour movie but there's so much happening, it feels like it goes by so fast
I loved it. Lengthy and all, but touching and beautifully shot.
Youre not chris stuckmann so youre wrong.
thewho186 hello mr. Bot. Goodbye mr. Bot.
7mnee 3 I didn’t ask you
Watched the movie, its definitely better then C+. I would give it a B+.
Ahil982 yeah I agree, the main thing I disagree with is that I thought it was paced really well! I was surprised when my friend told me there was 40 minutes left, I thought we were only halfway through 😂
Nah- a C+ for me
its just as good as the first
Ahil982 yea I think it should be 88% on rotten tomatoes
Lol no
Adult fears - BILLS!
They din't add this because it'd be too scary 😂😂😂
The best adult horror film I know is the Amityville horror. Just think of the insurance premiums!
@@jackmars931 stephen king called it a financial demolition derby 😆
In the book it is made clear that all the losers grew up to be successful and rich.
Yeah, I thought this movie dragged a bit. I looked at my watch towards the end thinking this is it but then realized we had 45 minutes to go.
The ending killed me, I knew what was coming but still.
Length really didn't bother me. I'm actually super excited for the director's cut
The children being eaten..
God the girl was the worst to me
Penniwise- “so what are you going to do with your life”
Me- 😰😰
I didn’t notice the kids were different at all. I think is was good for chapter 2
It's more noticeable if you watch It Chapter 1 right before Chapter 2 (which is what I stupidly did). I couldn't quite figure out why, but their faces all looked 'off' from the previous movie and Eddie's voice in particular was really raspy compared to the first movie. It was distracting.
I saw both. Didn’t bother me at all 🤷🏻♂️
yeah they did a good job on getting the right facial features and people
Too long?!.....Heck with that...I’ll be awaiting the 4 1/2 hour Director’s Cut next year! 😄
Ted Logan i heard there was a 6 hour cut 😭
Yeah seriously, it's like bitching that you got too much money back from the IRS. Take it and be happy you got extra
Haha
SO WILL I. I think the director's cut will be a lot better than this version. This version, even though it was still long, still felt like it was missing a lot.
I don't mind a long movie... If it's not horse shit.
Finally! I’ve been anticipating your review! Seeing it in 2hrs
you watch reviews for movies before you see them?
@the kelly gang very fair point.
Hope you are enjoying it!
@the kelly gang Chris can spoil things for me. If he talks about an ending and thinks he's being vague, or a twist in the movie, I can still usually piece it together. So whenever I see a review of his is over 8 minutes I avoid it til after because I know he's going to talk about certain things. This time I still watched because I read most of the book.
jombo yeah Lowkey. I just finished the movie
Thank you for mentioning The Green mile. That movie was a masterpiece. This version of It was better than it's predecessor.
I loved this movie. 8.5/10 for me. I thought it was more funny than scary tho but I was entertained for the most part.
agreed. I was expecting a so-so movie from all the reviews, but I really enjoyed it.
I had fun and was emotional.
I rewatched part 1 two days ago, and I honestly liked part 2 more. Seems like that’s an unpopular opinion lmao 😂
yea same. in this movie pennywise was alot more awesome and interesting to me. and i liked that the charecters felt somewhat the same as when they were kids!
I very much agree! I loved this so much more as a fan of the book
Tyler Shank just got out of the theatre........I think I’m with you on that
I like the original movie better than the remake
I like part 2 a lot more as well
I actually liked this one just as much if not a bit better than the first. Had no problem with the pacing. And was excited to see that stuff from the book in the film.
Great casting, great dialogue, loved the scares and peppered with the right amount of humour. I felt it was intense and well done.
Even producers got bored by the end of the movie and made HERE COMES THE JHONNY SCENE
People act like IT Chapter Two is unconscionably long. As opposed to... Chapter One? Chapter One was 14 minutes shorter than Chapter Two. They're both long movies.
Chapter 1 was 2 hours 9 minutes with credits and chapter 2 was 2 hours 49 minutes with credits so it's a 40 minute difference
Also pacing
@@gabrielcurle6458 It's no more than 20 minutes difference. Go Google IT chapter 1, see the runtime, then Google IT chapter 2, then see that runtime. Then do the mental math, pull out your calculator, or barring that shut the fuck up. Why nitpick over something so petty, unless you bleed once a month?
voteZDLR I did exactly what you told Gabriel to do and it’s a difference of 24 minutes (which is more than a 20 minute difference) So you wrote out an entire paragraph berating someone and can’t even get the math correct yourself. Lol what a clown
@@cokemachine62590 he has some serious issues
I was lucky enough to see a screening last night. This film is amazing. I’m a massive SK fan so I have a personal connection to this franchise. Great performances all the way around but Bill Hader stole the show. Chris, thank you for consistently putting out great content. You rule sir. 👍🏽😃✌🏽
That's what I keep hearing Billy hader
wazgood23 Gaming I knew the guy could act (Barry is a great show) but his range and talent are definitely on display here. 👍🏽
Is the scene where it is disguised as the old lady still in the movie?
@@tookiebowaba421 Yes
Egg Shell Yes. It’s actually a pivotal scene. ✌🏽
My heart broke when he gave C+ !
Edit: Also I can never forget that he gave *Interstellar* a B+
I’d give it a C-
Much better than a C+
@@jackmars931 Ok Jack.
It’s gay
I liked Arrival more than interstellar
Just watched it .. it was very disappointing VERY
I just came home after watching it, remarkable movie. Pulls at your heart strings. LOVED EVERY BIT OF IT. :)
I actually felt sorry for (baby it)! Lol when they talked it down to size..goes to show you that WORDS have power!!
iamblackgambit Yeah in a weird way it’s a great movie to show new teenagers to help them cope with anxiety or fear.
