If Hollywood ever dares to touch it, we’re gonna have major problems! Also, in my personal opinion, if they ever dared to remake Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (my favorite film of all time), I’m gonna go to war against Hollywood!
Kyle Reese in The Terminator said it best: "The Terminator is out there. It can't be bargained with, it can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are DEAD."
A sound analysis. You’re missing a major thematic point: terminator 2 was about an absent father and a boy who found a father figure who ultimately had to die.
It’s ending also concluded that machines were actually capable of understanding empathy and love. “I know now why you cry....” practically was a means to an end even if skynet happens. They threw that all away
Jeremey Esquivel No one said it lived up to T2, it’s just the best-told sequel since that film. T2 and T1 are in “excellent” territory while Dark Fate is “meh 👍🏻”
The movie kills off the white male future savior and humbles the white male robot hero, then replaces them both with the diversity female future savior, and white female robot heroine. Reviewers with a social agenda don't have a choice but to praise the film.
Yea because they couldn't compete with the t.3000 like seriously the rev 9 struggled against the t.800 it would get destroyed if the the t.3000 came at it
I don't understand why a lot of people are shiting on this film, not saying that you are actually your review was spot on, but others are not as kind, let's be fair now the acting was very good, the CGI was believable, the action was intense I agree clustered but not over the top. A fresh start to the Terminator is not a bad thing, now that we have this film lets see what crazy shit they come up with next, I'm looking forward to a new Terminator future. Good review thanks for not shiting on this film I liked it.
@@Paulzpc Agreed. I've been asking for an all female terminator film with Schwarzenegger's T-800 taking a back seat to a 65 year old Linda Hamilton for years now.
Adrian Naranjo Please let there not be a future for Terminator...it needed to end after T2...if Dark Fate bombs hard enough, maybe it’ll be the last one
@@grape9926 That’s just it. Terminator and Alien movies shouldn’t just be “fine”. They should’ve quit while they were ahead and left Terminator as two movies. Alien franchise still had more potential after Aliens but they never captured it.
@@grape9926 not at all compared to 1 and 2. It's ok, but nothing to brag about. It was like jamming philosophy and action and horror and a hundred other things into one movie
I like to picture it as being T1, T2, TSC, ROTM and then Salvation. Genisys was really about a "What If...?" storyline, and Dark Fate wanted to continue the *actual* story, which completely retconned everything that came before and even after it.
@Anime is Beautiful this movie was so bad though and the bad Terminator just went and made a family...why? He was also texting her and telling her where the terminators would come because.....and then Sarah Connor is telling dumb mexican girl she is not important just her womb, when Sarah Connor prevented Skynet and killed all these terminators it made no sense.

Vidya Bros. That gives me an idea...I’m going to buy a ticket for another movie...walk into Dark Fate just so I can say out loud in the opening scene, “that’s bullshit! I’m outta here”, then go into the movie I actually paid for
Might I recommend the movie Upgrade? It's not part of the Terminator franchise, of course, but the writer/director has stated that it was an influence. It's a great, smartly written SciFi/action/body horror movie that was made on a low budget but doesn't look it, with good performances, awesome action and a killer ending, and it deserves more love.
@@Gouthamedara It's so awesome! Marketing was shit, though; I didn't even hear about it till months after it left theaters. But it seems to be developing a cult following.

@@christophermarabella5683 not really. Hes dead pretty well from the start just so they can have the t800 from t2 back. A cheap swap for side character development seeing as sarah or Arnie arnt even main characters in all seriousness. Not to mention Arnie dies and they dont prevent new judgement day.... and it still ruins the whole point of t2 for the sake of this rerun plot.
I was watching another reviewer & his fake energy & shitty attempt at comedy made me look for something else less than 2 minutes in. This tone here works for me. Lets you focus on the actual review instead of the reviewer.
Axel Bergström was thinking the same thing except I thought it would be a direct sequel to T2 and wipe out the rest of the timeline. And more than likely it’ll be disappointing
And it will feature a transwoman giving birth to the T-1,000,000, a nano-technorganic multiphasic gaseous Terminator that targets Trump voters. It's created by the super-AI, the REEEEEEEEEE.exe program.
8:40 In Terminator 2, while kid John is talking to the terminator, John asks him if he can learn so he can become more human, and Arnold says that he does learn, the more he is around humans the more his is like them.
He meant more human as in learning to act more human. In terms of actually being a human with actual emotions, it can’t happen. He said himself that he can never cry like John did, even after learning why he cried.
Yeah, right! It was the first time on spoiler review I thought: I don't care about spoilers. I didn't watch this movie because it sucks and the plot won't surprise me anyway. So it really doesn't matter.
I'd say T3 ended it, because the film franchise kind of went like this: 1st movie - Future robots try to change the past.... can't 2nd movie - Current-day humans try to change the future .... can't 3rd movie - both sides try again, both sides fail, and at one point it's explicitly stated, neither side can escape their destiny, then judgement day happens. Artistically, and by feel, it ended with T2. But it was ambiguous at the end of T2: did the humans succeed in not only resisting future robots, but in preventing that future from occurring? We never knew, and I was OK with that, but T3 ended all debates: John will be survive, John will lead the rebellion, Skynet will rise, judgement day will happen, and then Skynet will be defeated. At least "Terminator Salvation" did address far-future concerns, though I thought it was a superfluous movie, and merely existed in the "Terminator universe" as opposed to being part of the story. "Genysis" had this retarded part between the opening and closing credits, but was otherwise mediocre.
1984: It can't be reasoned with, it can't be bargained with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. 2019: I'm a family man now. I think I see the problem.
Oh man, this right here. In T2 they had to take out the CPU and do some stuff because Terminators are "read-only" mode so they can't learn or think too much on their own. But once it kills John Conner suddenly it is self aware and can learn on it's own now ... ? There's a lot of issues with this movie that bugged me a lot. But the action scenes were great.
I think you need to think of it this way, an ai is artificial intellegence its a life form. it can grow, develop and adapt. If it doesnt, its just a robot programmed to do exactly one thing, and when the terminators are in contact with their neural network or the primary ai they are just fullfilling the primary Ais will, But its an interesting idea to think, what happens when an ai is set free like he was in this movie. He no longer gets commands and the instructions and goal has been accomplished. A Terminator needs to be able to infiltrate, and blend in with its surroundings, it needs to be human like, so there has to be an element of free will. if it accomplised its inital goal without ai it would just shut down and stop. An ai needs to be able to think for itself and learn. And Its happened before when arny fought back against the kill command. So if it could do that, obviously its not so far fetched that one could grow over 20 plus years.
But thats the thing. The terminator isn't in contact with any network once they're sent back in time. It should've just shut down if it had finished its mission. I'm sorry I just can't bring myself to feel convinced it was set free and just adapts human life. It's way too ridiculous especially as a terminator film
I was born in 87. I used to watch T2 on VHS. The first time seeing it. I didn't realize why as a kid. I do now that I am older. I cried my ass off when Arni was lowered into the Lava and John was balling his eyes out.... The memories.
How are you doing now , sir? Respect. You might have seen so much in your life, advance of technology. Salute. hope you read this comment. I don't want to be negative. God bless you. Rear to read a comment like this . Couldn't stop myself replying
So they killed John to be finally able to tell a new story. Just to tell the exact same story but with a female savior, who can't act to save her live. Slow clap.
I fuckin' knew it. Bastard was too busy obsessing over his Avatar franchise and crossing his fingers for a strong superhero fatigue. What happened, Cameron?! You had no fuckin' excuse for letting this movie turn out so horribly! You know what? Screw it! I'm sticking to Halloween 2018 and Force Awakens. At least those films were made by filmmakers that actually gave a shit about the fans. Sure, neither of them are five-star masterpieces but it's better to have imperfect products that at least had their hearts in the right place as opposed to a broken mess that unnecessarily spits in the faces of not just the original masterpieces but their fans as well in a distasteful manner.
@@alejandrovillalba3143 To be honest, we had a lot of badass women in the Terminator movie's from Sarah Conner to the T-X, but I agree with you when you say this is overkill
It was the best after the first two IMO. If it was just a stand alone future war movie it would be awesome, but it tried to be more complex that it needed to be and the special effects were for sure worse than the first two.
Marco Silva Uhmmm, if they fail their mission, they get terminated. Terminators are not sentient nor do they have a reason to peacefully integrate themselves with human beings
Ethan Berry i didn’t say they were sentient. But they could still continue on within society and further accelerate skynet’s creation, no? Either way, in this case, arnold’s character seems to have integrated into society after his mission was complete. They don’t simply “shutdown”.
When Carl said "After this I won't be back" I think it was actually Arnold saying to the fans that he either won't be around for long to be in another terminator movie or that he knows that the series is getting bad and he doesn't want to be apart of it anymore
Arnie doesnt need the money so he should have had the integrity to say NO after T2......they were both MASTERPIECES and it should have ended there for HIM!
I think it was just in the script and that's it. I think they didn't contemplate his character for the sequels that will never be made because they couldn't find a way because killing his character it was more "emotional" for this movie.
I don't get the hate for Salvation. It was ok, they risked a lot with a new story and give closure to the future timeline and they didn't bring back Arnold (except for the cgi fight).
People naturally like to compare movies in the same franchise. Many think that all the sequels are shit besides Terminator Judgment Day, but I quite enjoy Terminator 3 and actually like Terminator Salvation too. Obviously, no sequels will EVER live up to the expectation of Terminator 2 and be able to replicate the dread displayed in T1. But at the very LEAST, Salvation introduced a new perspective into the franchise that hasn't really been explored. On the other hand, Genisys is just bad....that I can agree with the general audience. Dark Fate I would say is better than Genisys even though the script/story is just as bad if not worse than Genisys........If you REALLY think about it, the plot of Dark Fate is basically a rehash of Salvation AND Genisys to an extent.....
Legion = new skynet Dani = new John connor Grace= new Kyle reese since she volunteered to save her like Kyle volunteered to save Sarah Rev 9= new TX The future war in dark fate is during the day just like salvation! TDF= new t3, t3 kills Sarah and keeps John alive, dark fate kills John and keeps Sarah alive. That is a lot of rehashed ideas here!
Mackenzie Davis was wasted on this movie. Girl has so much talent and potential for action roles, and this movie just pissed all of that right down the tube with such a mediocre script. I really hope she's able to get involved in other projects later on that aren't repackaged garbage.
I completely agree. She was awesome in this movie only great thing about this movie. I thought Linda was awful and Arnold part being a family guy stupid as hell. Action scenes were over the top b.s and the girl who played John Connor horrible actress.
True, she was my favourite part of the movie. She's really good at becoming an action star but I wish she have chosen better scripts. I'm interested in seeing her like in the MCU, DCEU, John Wick, Bourne or even other action movie franchise cuz she's pretty good at kicking ass. She deserved so much better and I do think this movie was semi watchable just because of her
That scene did disappoint me exponentially. I have no idea why they even hyped the return of Edward Furlong in the first place in order for that to occur. But it didn't deter me from enjoying the entertainment value of "Dark Fate", in fact, quite the opposite took place for me. The new timeline with 2042 was interesting and fresh that it made me want to see the 2042 war with Legion.

Fun fact: James Cameron said that he didn’t liked what Alien 3 did to Newt. I agree with him, but why is he okay with killing John in the first scene? That doesn’t make any sense
T3 was masterpiece next to this mess. I think they just need to go deeper in lore and let Sarah and John Connor stories rest for while. Salvation is best Terminator movie after 1 and 2 for me. Christian Bale made good job as John Connor. Not best plot, but something different.
Sorry to disagree, but T3 is awful also. It's basically a shot per shot recreation of T2, which shows how poorly made that movie was. The only two things that are true to the Terminator franchise are these: the first two movies are timeless classics, the rest just keeping getting worse and worse within each installment.
The Terminator franchise doesn't deserve a fucking canon. All they do since T2 is shit the bed, realize they fucked up and make a sequel that ignores everything after T2 all over again. The only really good Terminator content since T2 was the Sarah Connor Chronicles and they fucking cancelled that. Fuck this franchise.
If Hollywood makes a Back to the Future 4 where someone hijacks Docs time travel train and goes back in time to kill Marty McFly from part 1. I swear...
goes to show these guys had no clue and it's cluelessness through the board. from the writer to the marketing guy. all had no flucking clue. fascinating.
Terminator Salvation is still one of my favorites for the simple fact that it's a fresh take on the franchise with new characters in a fixed non-time-traveling timeline. The fact that the movie takes place post-apocalypse is what got me excited for the movie. Skynet was much more self aware and also it was the first Terminator movie to introduce a human-terminator hybrid. That blew my mind when I first saw that in theaters and I'll never forget it.
People give salvation a lot of hate. It deserves some because there were issues with the movie like dialog, pacing, character develpoment etc. But people don't take into account some external factors that was holding the movie down: * First terminator movie to not feature Arnold(he was still the governor), the brand has been associated with Arnold so much, it couldn't afford to lose his presence without a proper send-off. * Fans complained that it didn't have those plasma rifle weapons we saw in T1, T2 flashbacks(maybe the sequels might have featured it) * It didn't have an R rating, was the first PG13 terminator. Salvation really suffered from the lack of gory kills and injuries, considering it was supposed to be a war movie. * Also the director of that movie didn't have a good reputation among the critics and that leaked on-set shouting of Bale. If these problems weren't there, I'm sure it would've made more money and we could've got the salvation sequels. Salvation was supposed to give us 2 more sequels ending with the defeat of skynet. They should've hired Tim Miller to direct a sequel to salvation, not a reboot. (copied comment)
Salvation is one of my favorite movies of a post apocalyptic world. Alice In Chains playing on the car radio when they jump started the Jeep and they take a moment to appreciate the “old world”. RIP Anton Yelchin (Kyle Reese)
I thought it was interesting that they showed skynet try something different with a humanoid Terminator instead of sending something back in time. Even skynet didn't want to recycle its own storyline.
It wasn't even a war movie, not even close. The Kyle Reese flashback scenes from T1 and the opening sequence from T2, THAT was the war between Skynet vs the resistance.
That movie was badass and I think a movie where skynet and legion have a world war would be cool.... especially cuz they can still bring back John cuz time travel
@Harry Potter Still it was a necessary continueing of the franchise. Otherwise you just do the same T2 movie over and over again. Now we have feminist version of T2. With CGI. I watched 20 minutes so far and saw already 5 times how a woman is telling a man what to do. Its about woman, woman, woman, woman, woman and crappy CGI and then theres superhigh CGI-jumps nobody could ever survive and everything ist faster, harder, more CGI. Characters = zero. Buty hey, at least there are woman, woman, woman, woman and a cheap telenovela-mexiacan-story. Dark fate is not only the worst Terminator movie, its an extreme example of a bad movie overall. Total waste of your life time!
Terminator 3 : "I screwed up big time" Terminator Salvation : "Nah, I've done worse" Terminator Genisys : "Ha! Ha! Remember me?" Terminator Dark Fate : "Hold my dead John Connor"
Here's a valid question. Why didn't he kill both John and Sarah. He had them at gun point and both were unarmed. Why didn't he kill them and then walk off to the next military base, to let them disassemble and study him? You know, give them a head start into developing Legion/Skynet.
Probably because ihe didn't have any orders to do so. Sarah was only an actual target before she gave birth, in T2 she only was of interest as a means to get to John. Since he already had terminated John, Sarah was completely irrelevant to him, and if he had no specific instructions to ensure Skynets creation if necessary after potential fallout of the time meddeling, he probably had no drive to do that either.
Literally every thumbnail could be captioned either: "Duuuuuuuuhhhhhh!"; "Deeeeeeaaaaahhhh!"; "Orrrrrrrrhhhhhhhh!"; or "Heeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhh!" It's so strange clicking on the video and hearing a cogent, knowledgeable review. I always expect just a dude making random noises while intermittently clapping his hands only using the palms. Bless him.
The main issue I have with this film is the termination of John Connor. John Connor is one of the most important characters in the history of film and it was a really bad idea just to kill him off. Imagine if George Lucas killed off Luke Skywalker in The Empire Strikes Back. The Return of the Jedi would be a useless film. You can't kill off important characters in a film if you want to keep the franchise going. When I saw that opening scene where John gets killed I thought to myself: They just killed the legendary character John Connor and ousted him from the franchise like he didn't exist. However, I did love the action scenes, the character Grace, Mackenzie did a great job, and that's about it. One character and actions scenes doesn't make a movie great. It seems like they tried to make this film be on the level of Terminator 2 Judgement Day. and failed drastically. As you saw in the film they had references to T2. The playground scene at the end, the T-800 sacrificing himself at the end while Dani and Sarah stand above, and several other scenes.
Yeah but if John Connor survives, you have a white male saving humanity and nowadays, it needs to be a STRoNG iNDePeNDeNT FeMaLe or someone will try and cancel the movie.
hah JC died when Edward Furlong went off the deep end... plus Cameron was done with Terminator anyway after 2. I was completely OK with a Terminator wasting JC because two of the movies had already disrespectfully retconned Cameron's canon (this means things were changed in the T3/T5 timelines before their time travel events happened), and really it was about the only big twist left to be done in the franchise anyway. I took it as a "holy shit!" twist, and it worked. It peeled my eyes open for a while. Does every Terminator timeline need John Connor to save humanity? T4 proved: nope! He was mostly shunned anyway by his own people outside of the "prophecies" he made. Anybody could have stepped into the role beyond what he knew from T2+T3, and that knowledge was only going to go so far.
I don't have a problem with T-3 because the end pretty much sends John Connor in a base to prepare him for his future mission and the Armageddon happens so it doesn't contradict anything. It says the whole thing was innevitable. And Salvation you see the future and John Connor kicking robot ass. It's after that where they tried forcing the issue with non-sense(like in Genysis somehow John Connor becomes the villain lol)
@@johnnyskinwalker4095 There was no need for T3, All the characters had a perfect arch and closure, the story was also perfected, the crisis was averted. T3 just another Terminator and it was ridiculous, the female one was over the top in all aspects. When you consider her abilities it would have been game over in the first scene they met. The whole film was just setting up excuses for action scenes and then having the action scenes. John Connor was ridiculous and then the silly end. A true T3 film could only have been about the life after the tragic events, sooner kind of drama film about Sarah having to pick her life up again and dealing with the aftermath, same with John. Why? Because in T2, Skynet was averted, the whole future timeline was averted. Hence the director was unwilling to just use the Terminator storyline and just change a few things for the money grab since its popularity assured profits. T2 was the end. Outside of Terminator: Battle Across Time Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles is the closest to an actual worthy sequel to Terminator and Terminator: Judgement Day
The thing I remember the most about the Chronicles was the awesome use of "when the man comes around" by Johnny Cash. That was more memorable than anything after T2.
i kinda liked it at first but really, all those people and terminators time travelling like it was nothing, makes you wonder if skynet was really losing the war, or why it didnt send an army of terminators to end john once and for all. besides, after t2, there really is no story left to tell, without making t2 pointless
It's my friend's favorite of the franchise, actually. I think it would have been good if they basically didn't have Sam Worthington's character and just focused on John and Kyle.
I think Terminator Films keep failing is they keep doing a remake of Terminator 2. Salvation is the only thing that had something new to offer but the execution wasn't well done.
"Let the past die." This phrase from the last jedi stands as symptomatic for the new hollywood movement, whose goal seems to be to destroy our classic beloved franchises.

I'm on board with that to be honest, nostalgia is a hell of a drug, people seem determined that these old franchises can't ever change but then when they do the same shit over and over they still complain. This movie was by no means perfect but at least the series can go somewhere now. Name one cool thing about John Connor that made him an interesting character to watch. All we've seen of him is him being an edgy teenager, a depressed loner and basically just some grunt. He's basically just a MacGuffin for the plot, I have absolutely no idea what's supposed to make him a great military leader, people told me oh but he can hack stuff and he uses guns! Why would that make him leadership material? Anyway yeah, a bunch of classic series like this need to move on, it's not being done in the best ways but it needs done. Star Wars has needed to stop being about the Skywalkers for decades, there's so much cool shit in that universe that needs explored. Terminator desperately needs to stop hinging on the same formula.

Just say it
I’ll likely give this a miss. T2 is when the story finished.
I'd say T3 ended it, because the film franchise kind of went like this:
1st movie - Future robots try to change the past.... can't
2nd movie - Current-day humans try to change the future .... can't
3rd movie - both sides try again, both sides fail, and at one point it's explicitly stated, neither side can escape their destiny, then judgement day happens.

2019: I'm a family man now.

I think you need to think of it this way,
an ai is artificial intellegence its a life form. it can grow, develop and adapt. If it doesnt, its just a robot programmed to do exactly one thing, and when the terminators are in contact with their neural network or the primary ai they are just fullfilling the primary Ais will,
But its an interesting idea to think, what happens when an ai is set free like he was in this movie.
Its in t2 isnt it that he choses to not be overiden by the t1000
But thats the thing. The terminator isn't in contact with any network once they're sent back in time. It should've just shut down if it had finished its mission. I'm sorry I just can't bring myself to feel convinced it was set free and just adapts human life. It's way too ridiculous especially as a terminator film
I was born in 87. I used to watch T2 on VHS. The first time seeing it. I didn't realize why as a kid. I do now that I am older. I cried my ass off when Arni was lowered into the Lava and John was balling his eyes out.... The memories.

But people don't take into account some external factors that was holding the movie down:
* First terminator movie to not feature Arnold(he was still the governor), the brand has been associated with Arnold so much, it couldn't afford to lose his presence without a proper send-off.
* Fans complained that it didn't have those plasma rifle weapons we saw in T1, T2 flashbacks(maybe the sequels might have featured it)
* It didn't have an R rating, was the first PG13 terminator.

It wasn't even a war movie, not even close. The Kyle Reese flashback scenes from T1 and the opening sequence from T2, THAT was the war between Skynet vs the resistance.
You must be a child. Those aren’t legitimate reasons why T4 is good. Those sound like “I like pretty colors and things that go boom boom yayyyyy!”
Salvation was good in my opinion. They shouldve just continued with that timeline. Its gone to real shit with the last two.

It's so strange clicking on the video and hearing a cogent, knowledgeable review.
Anybody could have stepped into the role beyond what he knew from T2+T3, and that knowledge was only going to go so far.
after seeing what they did to Luke in the sequel movies it's not surprising
Terminator 2 was a perfect closure, there shouldn't have been a Terminator 3 to begin with.
T3 was good
@@TobeyStarburst no man
You're right but under this are the usual comments attempting to justify the sequels. Oh dear.
The rest is just greed inspired rubbish.

"Let the past die." This phrase from the last jedi stands as symptomatic for the new hollywood movement, whose goal seems to be to destroy our classic beloved franchises.
Can't sell the new shit quality franchises to people if they know that movies used to be good.
They want to sell low quality story telling and movies for the highest profit to consumers, not fans, nothing is made for quality and passion anymore it's just mindless profit at the cost of integrity.
I'm on board with that to be honest, nostalgia is a hell of a drug, people seem determined that these old franchises can't ever change but then when they do the same shit over and over they still complain.
This movie was by no means perfect but at least the series can go somewhere now.

@@captainnwalps6689 T3 feels like the least "What if" of them all, mainly because it's by the numbers. Salvation would have been the next most obvious step, but they made Sam Worthington the main character, and broke all logic to do so, which brought the movie down to "What if" status.
John Hooyer they did that to Sarah because at the time Linda Hamilton refused to reprise her role. Not sure why John was a wimp though.
