I must admit that the 35mm focal length is almost perfect for gatherings like parties and so on. But, for indoor use, a 28mm might be slightly more useful. It depends on the space. Personally, if I ever shoot another party, I think I'm going to take with me equivalents of 28mm and 50mm. You can do it all with a 35mm of course, but I think I would prefer some variety. However, you cannot do a wedding with just a 28 and a 50. You do need a tele zoom to get close-ups of guests at their tables and so on. Just IMHO. Maybe some of you have shot weddings with nothing longer than 50mm or maybe 90mm. If so, I can respect that!
Thank you for the Great review presentation as usual, and very pleasant pictures!! Only 30cm in shortest focus distance and the predictable field distances. What an amazing lens this is!!
Hello. Really enjoy your video. I was hoping to put the APO-Summicron-M 35mm f/2 on the Hasselblad 907x and be my primary setup for both close up Food shots (0.3m), traveling (28mm equivalent), and portrait (F1.4 equivalent and crop a bit). But concerns about the vignetting on 907X/50CII and not enough DOF. Would appreciate any feedback with this setup
I have a MP coming shortly. I don't however have a lens to mount on it. I'm still trying to figure out if it's worth money to get the APO Summicron or the ASPH Summilux. Because it's going on a 35mm film Camera and NOT a digital I am unsure of what i should do. I will be using this primarily for Street Shooting I like 50mm but this 35mm is something of Beauty. Thanks.
35mm is definitely the king for street. It's ability to miss but not really miss for hip shooting is unparalleled. With my 50mm, hip shooting is very tough. It's doable, but when the light falls you have to go f1.4 and that makes hip shotting alot more difficult. I can get away with alot using a 35mm from my experience.
How much would be the difference to the new Voigtländer Apo 35mm/2.0VM. The price difference is about several 1000 Euro. What I see is sometimes the 3Deffect of sharp objects that are different to other manufacturers. Can you explain that?
Ask yourself if you are a 35mm shooter or a 50mm one (like me), and you'll have the answer. However, the 30cm minimum focus distance is a point to consider anyway...
For me, focal length aside, it is about the feel of the resulting image not the sharpness or detail. I have asked myself the same question regarding these two lenses, and if I listen to my heart, it is clearly the 1.2 I’d get. Hopefully it’ll still be around once I’ve saved up enough :).
Good point Casaba. Not just the sharpness... I still like my my 35 summilux interns of well balanced outcome. But APO 35 is great lens, isn’t it. I want to have one in my bag.
@@uclasuzuki I suppose that’s where you need to look at what other lenses you already have. I have got a Cron 35 ASPH II, a matte black Summaron 28, and as much as I admire the APO 35 M, I’ve always craved a Nocti. On my M-A the 1.2 would be incredible.
I’d get the 35mm. It’s a far higher technical quality and much smaller/lighter. It will have far greater usefulness especially owing to the focus distance which is 1m on the Noctilux which can be quite limiting, not close enough to get face or even head and shoulders portrait...

Next time you compare sharpness, do it at the same distance. Because when things are far away from the lens, you loose resolution. So of cause the APO looks sharper because the motive is closer to the camera
You should have put the lens within the same range while using the two different lenses to show the difference in sharpness in 70cm and the focus in 30cm that would be much fair to present why the sharpest Leica lens and one of the sharpest in general in photography is way more better than the f/1.5 35mm simicron and semilux unless you need higher bokeh and entering light maybe
Could you see if the APO Cron 35 gets any kind of good coverage on the GFX100? I would do the test myself but having difficult time finding the lens rn.

I once saw some photos of Zurich taken with a Swiss lens with extraordinary resolving power. The photos were difficult to look at. The precise rendering of every minute detail was distracting.
Hello , Great Reciews, I want to ask a favor can you please make a video about buying Leica monochrom 246 in 2022? Is the 35mm summicron asph2 perfect combo fot the the M 246? Thanks
Hi Math! Thak you for the clear and incredible explaining of the lenses. I have a question for you: Witch lens is the most sharper between: “LEICA APO-SUMMICRON-M 90MM F/2 ASPH” and “SUMMILUX-M 90MM F/1.5 ASPH”. Can you make a video? Thank you for your time!
I am sure the optics of this lens are top class, but the idea of this lens is not new. I have a 50mm Summicron F2 Dual Range of antiquity, that has the matched goggles which make it possible to focus very close through the optical window of my M2, M3 and M6. In other words, this is a Dual Range 35mm Summicron.
Always like your videos. Don't like that you always show the lenses with lens hood and lens cap on. Anyways, in this otherwise fantastic video you did not mention the newly designed lens hood and how much the APO 35mm covers the viewfinder with and without lens hood. Do you really need this phenomenally expensive lens? Is it a major improvement on the original eight element 35mm f2 Summichron? Follow the money: are we looking at photography...or sales?
"The new apo 35 really is a superb lens." I am certain that this is true. However, Leica lenses are generally supeb, particularly the Summicrons, regardless of age. Please remember as well that resolving power, which you call sharpness, is actually less important than contrast. This has been demonstrated in tests of human perception.
