Great commentator's voice, never flustered and never got too carried away. The perfect front man for AFL on the TV for so long. Great to see Mr Landy again.
Peter Landy was probably the best Australian sportscaster there has been.. He was known as the voice of AFL, but he could do anything...Always entertaining.. Him and Lou were legendary together.. No one touches them today!
In the early 1980s, Peter Landy introduced a generation of Americans unfamiliar with Australian Rules football to the sport via weekly highlights on ESPN. I thank him most for my learning and enjoyment that has followed.
Growing up as a kid and later listening to Peter Landy we loved his commentary particularly when he went off his head behind the microphone! Go off ya head Landy !
The most professional sports presenter. I recall seeing Peter walking his German Sheppard in East Kew as late as the 90s before he retired to Qld. Lou Ruchards, Peter Landy and Bobby Skilton. The number 1 channel 7 commentary team.
Peter was one of the commentators (along with the late Lou Richards) of the very first footy match I ever saw on American television; round 17 of 1985, Carlton v. Essendon.
Another American footy fan indoctrinated through ESPN's telecasts. Peter Landy was the face of Aussie Rules on ESPN in the early 80s but, by the middle of 1985, Sandy Roberts took over hosting duties through the 1986 season. My first telecast was Collingwood vs. Fitzroy in 1983 at Victoria Park with Sandy Roberts, Bob Skilton and Jack Edwards covering the match. I actually wrote to the Seven Network to express my enjoyment of their telecasts and they sent me a footy care package to include the same postcard of Peter Landy, shown in this footage, autographed with his best wishes. Pretty cool stuff! Peter Landy and Lou Richards covering the VFL were like Pat Summerall and John Madden to the NFL in that era. Should be in the Hall of Fame alongside Dennis Cometti.
McAvaney has nothing on the legend that is Peter Landy! He was the master of the English language as a commentator and, was a great caller in heavy traffic!
I agree. Peter inspired me to work on improving my own usage of the English language and I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to listen to him during my teen years.
He mentions Violent Saturday which was produced by Ch 7 in the early '70s. It got a lot of criticism at the time for 'glorifying' violence. The VFL thought it damaged the game & complained, so Ch 7 agreed to destroy the print so that it could never be repeated.
@@danielkneebone4412 yeah yeah, but also it seems Melbourne centric and Melbourne biased . And defo not Sydney centric . It’s AFL focused and it also gives more air time to afl cities eg Perth/Adelaide. Sydney just isn’t important to the front bar.
Great commentator's voice, never flustered and never got too carried away. The perfect front man for AFL on the TV for so long. Great to see Mr Landy again.
The chemistry of these guys were brilliant. Could listen to them yap all day. Peter Landy was witty and has a great sense of humour.

Absolutely brilliant. Peter still going strong at 78 with a damn good sense of humour. 1300 shows. Good effort. Classic ads.
That is one of the best guest spots you’d ever see on this show. Love Peter Landy.
Peter Landy is an Australian TV commentary legend. Peter Landy's voice as a commentator was a sight to behold & admire greatly.

I really wasn't expecting this to be that great... but hands down the funniest guest ever.

The voice of my youth- so good to see him back on TV and geez he was funny!

Peter's call of the Oarsome Foursome's Gold Medal winning race at Barcelona was epic. Fantastic commentator!
Peter Landy and Lou Richards were the voices of my childhood. They made VFL just so exciting. Good times.

He really should come back on, permanently.

Absolute pisser this was
This was the greatest interview I've seen in a long long time.
A national treasure and he's hilarious.
That voice reminds me of footy commentary in the 70's and 80's.
Sasha S yep
"You weren't prepared for that line of questioning" hahahahahahahahhahaaaa GOLD!!
Peter Landry was the Best caller. Great commentator
Great list Landy , agree with all the selections .
Grew up watching Peter Landy in the 70's and 80's, great to see he's aging well and a barrel of laughs too! Great segment.
This made me so happy... why did he retire? :) He's sensational even now.
Fabulous interview

Good old Xavier boy. They don’t make them like Peter Landy anymore.

Former HSV-7 VFL football commentator Peter Landy is a blast from the past.
one of the best commentators of all time and a great sense of humour
Iconic voice of footy.
This interview went the proverbial mile each of two. It was the greatest comeback since Lazarus.
Good question??? He could have kept on going!
What a classic.
Landy magnificent
funny footage before this part where it showed landy and lou richards commenting on a fight in the stands lol..wanna see that again
They certainly gave him the one one sit.
"No no no, it was Sir Phillip Jones" 😂😂😂
Shows how switched on Andy is, and how he genuinely listens to the guests. Great host!
It's amazing in how well Andy, Mick and Sam operate together. Couldn't imagine this show working without all of them.
What happened at the start. What did the person in the crowd say. Why wasn’t he immediately ejected
My then wife lol😂😂😂 landy is so funny
the shiver and squirm from him is BRILLIANT!!
Legend
Today's commentators could def learn something from peter landy. Landy is one of my favourite callers
Lol violent Saturday
Rip peter
Landy and Richards BoG
Hilarious Stuff.
Cool

That dirty cunt Newman fuked her
The show is so Melbourne centric . It doesn’t act like the city of Sydney is relevant to the show
It isn’t.
@@michaelhehir8116 but it’s a national show, yet it’s Melbourne focused and AFL and cricket focused. Almost no content given to NRL/Rugby Union
It’s AFL and some cricket in the tradition of the Channel 9 (AFL) Footy Show. Plenty other options for rugby. Get over it.

No decent Football show on TV now. How can TV not get the mix right . The host is terrible and then a so called comedian ? $$$$
