I dont think people get Aker or his cheeky sense of humour, he tried to an honest bloke and people hated the fact he didn't toe the line but he was insanely talented and his late mum would be so proud of him - He was only misunderstood by those who were committed to misunderstanding him.
The fact that I got to kick the footy with Jason when he came to my local primary school in the mid-2000’s, when no other classmate would partner up with me, is so amazing to me, and I can look back nearly 20 years later, and be proud of something so fantastic, and have it locked deep in my memory for this long. Jason, if you see this, thank you for making my childhood so incredible. I can’t believe I remember all this after such a long time. The things I would give to meet you again and thank you for everything and maybe even kick the footy again, like we did that day. ❤️🙏 You are seriously one of the best, mate.
Great story bro and you gave me a laugh when you said you would like to have a kick with him again as an adult. I'm pretty sure I saw an episode of 'It's always sunny in Philadelphia' where that exact thing happened except with a baseball player not AKER..
He had me in stitches! Champion player, those goals he was kicking from the pockets weren't snaps he pivoted at full pace and punted them. Great to watch.
Adelaide fan here. Got to say that Aker was an amazing player! He destroyed us in the 2003 semi final and I enjoyed seeing him rip Collingwood apart in the 2003 Grand Final and who would forget those two consecutive goals in 2005 (3:55) against Geelong in heavy rain. Should be a hall of famer. He was a very, very critical person who would show no fear about his points of view which unfortunately cost him his career but he continued on in other leagues.
That running goal at full pace from outside 50 on the wrong foot is what makes our game the best. Aker tried so hard to be completely unlikable but was incredibly talented.

True story, My niece lived near Jonathan Brown when she was a kid and apparently he was a good guy who would interact with the local kids and have a kick with them, funny thing was all the little kids would call him ACKER lol. Like him or not, he was the one most responsible for promoting in the Lions in Brisbane during the early 2000s
Voss was the cream of the crop , and though i didn't like Aker personally, he's better than Judd , Goodes ,Buckley and Ricciuto . But kicked out of two clubs and three golf clubs ?! Not a great team man . and the handstand - solipsism writ large.

I don't know about that, a Brownlow medal, 3 premierships, 4 time All-Australian, 2 time best and fairest and consistently performing on the biggest stage with the amount of talent he had. I'd say he's easily in that caliber of player, more a testament to just how brilliant the Brisbane Lions team of the early 2000s was. Truely one of the supremely talented players to EVER play the game, which is evident from his highlight package alone.
Exactly - Voss to me is under-rated and should be top five of all time ! Black was sublime. Aker was a freak who i rate above many others but he was all about himself.

@Crtny Rss @fossie32. From what I understand Carro is 100% wrong on this. I've looked the story up and in 2005 he referred to the people who ran his radio station as "monkeys", after which he was sacked, he apologised and said he didn't realise that was racist (I don't know if he really did or not). This video doesn't show the whole of his interview on the show, I just went and found the rest of it and the part of the interview from what I had recorded. He gets asked why he was sacked from the radio station by Sam Pang and he says "I tried to get an extra half an hour and I said let's try to get these monkeys upstairs to change their mind. It's an aboriginal station, they were NIRS and they took offence to that", to this Molloy says "you can understand why". He didn't call them monkeys again or call them monkeys, he was referring to what he had done wrong after being asked. Nice one Carro, he did something 14 years ago and you can still criticise him for that but you're wrong here.
I think everyone has it wrong, baker gave his all to every club he played for, it was the clubs that let their jealousy and poor personal judgement by letting him go putting the teams/ clubs prospects at a loss. He did his job, they didn't do theirs is how I see it. Lee Mathews is a piss poor sniper that couldn't hold a candle to Aker. The most talented player to p okay the game. And a great bloke to boot. Sad day that tofu lattee do rights had to much say at the dogs also.
I get that Pang & Molloy use him as comic relief but he has a seriously annoying presentation style that negates the humour in hanging shit on him. The show'd be better off with someone else.
