      It's easy to get a lot of articulation, but it's pretty useless if your springs keep falling out. It's not hard to put in the right spring/shock length combination to prevent springs falling out.

      @clooperman3745 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@L663 Personally l think those suspension systems that allow the spring to dislocate are a waste of time, good tires and difflocks are far more effective, my old LWB SJ413 so equipped often outperformed Defenders unless they had lockers as well.

    Always love seeing the off road explotis. I think if you use more Lo-range on these tracks, employ HDC to eliminate sudden jerky braking, air down to a sensible pressure (18-25psi for this sort of stuff), get some decent E load rated rubber and rid yourself of those pointless side steps you'll have a lot more fun.

    • @300bhpton
      @300bhpton ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure what country you are in, but airing down in the UK or Wales where this was filmed isn't really practical. The lanes are cool, although most are not serious in terms of off road obstacles. Lanes are also pretty short in length, so a days laning will see you doing more road miles than lanes as a rule. The longest lane is still short, so frequent trips back to the tarmac the norm, meaning you might do 4, 5 or more lanes in a day. If you wanted to air up and down for each one it'd take you hours.

    • @gavinconvey5090
      @gavinconvey5090 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe so, but not airing down is a great way to reduce traction and comfort while increasing stress on the vehicle and susceptibility to punctures. I can air down in about 3 minutes and air up in 10-15. They really are starved for good offroad options in UK. @@300bhpton

    Hi Simon...... re your off roading adventure at Spicy lane in Wales..... firstly tire selection..... I’ve always found that the B F GOODRICH All terrain an excellent road tire and damn go off road!!!! Don’t go for the Mud Terrain..... it’s to aggressive and wears out quickly on the tarmac!!!
    Secondly when driving off road.... NEVER HAVE YOUR THUMBS ON THE INSIDE OF THE STEERING WHEEL!!!!!
    If one of the front wheels strikes a large rock or it’s grabbed by a rut there is an excellent chance that you may break a thumb or two!!!!
    Always have your thumbs on top of the steering wheel so that the wheel can slide through your hands!!!

    FairPlay for taking that down the overgrown narrow tracks. I certainly wouldn’t 😂 shame about the tyre 🙈 it’s also surprising how low the defender is, id have thought it would have sat a little bit higher. Is there a lift kit of sorts available for it?

    • @300bhpton
      @300bhpton ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends what you mean by low? they have good factory ground clearance, but they are a long vehicle with a relatively big front overhang. You also only get the max ground clearance with the air suspension raised, which can make them more bouncy off road and loose some suspension droop and flex. Also as IFS or IRS suspension compresses you loose ground clearance. You can lift the vehicle with the air suspension and there are ways to 'trick it' to run higher than normal. But any lift on independent suspension looses you suspension droop. The best lift option I've seen is a company in the USA that does a subframe lift to essentially move the body up away from the suspension (a bit like a body lift on a ladder chassis). This keeps all the suspension travel but gives more clearance and allows bigger tyres to be run. But hugely costly....

    The LR approved Duratracs appear not to have the Kevlar sidewall reinforcement that the non-approved version has - I’ve had the same result twice now with slashed sidewalls on similar runs with my 110 D240. I have had both my D240 110 and now the D250 clear gloss wrapped with Xpel self repairing PPF and it has protected my Pangea Green cars really well on scratchy runs. My new D250 90 has the GY Adventure tyres which are less aggressive but seem to be holding out better slash wise than the Duratracs. BTW my insurers were insistent that I only fitted LR approved off-road tyres to my 110 First Edition if I wanted them to cover me for off-road use………… hence why I am still using Goodyears and haven’t changed to BFG’s. I also have Wheel and Tyre insurance that has generously bought me 3 new Duratracs and 2 20” alloy refurbs in the last 3 years for the cost of the premium!
