i used to have a woodford 3 bike trailer with wheel clamps back in 2014, i used to transport peoples motorbikes all over UK every week, it did many many thousands of miles faultlessly
I suspected oil starvation would be the cause, the early AJV8 engines pre2000 were known to suffer with oil starvation under track conditions. Jaguars way to fix this was later models had a different dipstick, where the Oil Min level on the revised dipstick was where the Oil Max level was on the original part. Quite a crude bit of engineering 🤣
British ingenuity. Cheap fix. No need to take anything apart. 😂. I thought it was only the cars with Milan wheels that got the revised dipstick, but I guess they rolled it out to all
Honestly first thing I thought if you're going to track it just extra litre of oil 😂. Although by 02 they'd come out with the 4.2 which was a very solid engine.
Interesting, my XKR has an engine built in 2001, wonder how much oil it can actually take lol. I put in exactly the specified amount from the manual as I've always been taught that overfilling oil = bad.
@@throwback19841 Overfilling is bad, except when the manufacture has calculated it is ok to a point. Fill levels are very variable on these engines. You can’t believe the printed figures.
Wow, that engine really died a savage death, another great video on the V2 channel, nice to see a tear down of the engine and what a great gesture from Tom and a brill memory of Tina
I really enjoy seeing Tom on the channel, he is an excellent mechanic and a good guy. And i do like when he rants on about the technical aspect and gets all geeky :D Looking forward for more vid on both channels :D
What a great episode! Love the odd couple relationship these guys have and that was really educational to see the carnage this engine endured. Would love to see more of this stuff!
Misha properly cooked Tina's engine!! The table looks absolutely mint though, I think that will be an "AutoAlex Spec" request. Tom is awesome chap and listening to someone who knows their stuff talk engines is always great.
So youtube's horrendous algorithms have only just shown me a video from this chanel... And none from your main chanel. Been wondering where you guys had gone off to! Glad to see you about & pleanty of videos to watch
VVT welded up...Yes Alfa T-spark engine (Alfa 75) back in 1995 My (Race car) mechanic decided that all it did was advance the timing, so... On a race car timing can be advanced all of the time (in theory) so He fixed the VVT in place and welded it up...had timing perminantly advanced!
Thats a very cool end to Tina block 😍 Glad Toms getting businees off of your videos. If my dad ever got another Jag (unlikely at 86!) But id insisnt he takes it to Tom after all the trouble he had with his last xk8
And the Autoalex three day blitz begins, outstanding! Andddddddd…… it’s not just the dads of the listeners, some of us old guys watch, listen and enjoy too, just sayin! Cheers from Canada boys!
My dad welded up a conrod from an old Chrysler 215 Hemi Slant and it ran for another 75,000km before failing and destroying engine. (The conrod never actually snapped in first place we just saw the crack in it that was like 75% through rod thickness)
7:09 so did no one at jaguar with the XK8 ever stop to think someone might drive their cars fast around a track, and test it for this, also Accusump, if you cant go baffled, fit an accusump pump for its next motor from the breakers that keeps the oil pressure up in corners, its a restomod thing I remember seeing on mike musto's 1968 dodge charger that he roadcoursed pretty hard with a mild 440 basically a pump that auto squirts oil into the engine when the load of the G's change which I didnt think the XK8 of all things would need although I guess I should have known something was up when they mentioned on drive tribe the XKR didnt even come with a basic detroit locker Limited Slip Diff as standard, like standard issue 1963 era technology for a performance car, that just about ever muscle car worth its salt was fitted with and it wasnt even standard on a 1999 to 2003 jaguar with a supercharged 450 horsepower V8 that was 65 grand when new
GIVE WOODFORD TRAILERS A CALL AND GET A MASSIVE 10% OFF WITH CODE AUTOALEX! woodfordtrailers.com/
What about a collaboration with life of Tom, he wants to go on track with his Mercedes
You should use an upper case V for Autoalex V2 and make the logo a picture of a V-twin.
What's this change or rules with respect to towing of large trailers? I'm behind
i used to have a woodford 3 bike trailer with wheel clamps back in 2014, i used to transport peoples motorbikes all over UK every week, it did many many thousands of miles faultlessly
As it turns out, the Jag wasn't Misha rated.
I mean, if he'd driven slower he wouldn't have caused the oil starvation, so I think you should still blame the guy
@@usget crying driver error when the car was underengineered is quite poor
@@quadraforest yeah I was joking tbh
Jags are for somoh!
@@quadraforest I don’t think Nurgurburgring.BallsOutMode was in the use cases considered by Jaguar engineers back in the mid-90s
You should do a challenge where Tom buys a shitbox car, and you have to fix it. Let him get some revenge 😂
This would be epic beyond belief!
I would watch this
YES!
Great idea
Great idea!
Tom comes across as such a genuine legend and nice bloke, awesome addition
Tom seems such a nice guy. Need more of him in the car industry.
Fair play Tom is a great guy and a massive addition to the channel...

Tom is such a legend. The guy seems extremely kind, love it whenever he is on the channel.
Love it when Toms on the channel. Jolly and dry humour at its finest. Knows his stuff and keeps Alex in check 😉
You need to etch a map of the Nürburgring into the glass.
Perhaps stop the etch where Tina finished

Tom's a proper geezer. Always good when he's on the channel.

Now see if the table can do a lap of the Nurburgring!
A ha ha! Put it on a 'high speed' trailer. Excellent comment dude.
Tom’s such a good addition to the channel. That welded VVT system killed me 😂😂😂

Loving the ‘nerdier’ technical content lately. Also Tom is a natural on camera
Poor Tom, stuck with a son he never wanted but Alex has chosen well
Welded VVT to camshaft 💀Nice to know the big end bearing journals wanted to join the party 😂
It's refreshing to see a mechanic using the correct tools even on a f'd engine.
I love Tom! Such a genuine guy, a real gentleman
