That was a great video, love the amethyst chunk! That last big glassy moss agate was amazing too! I really love them all honestly. I like that you show a variety and not just agates.

This really helped me further with preparing for my trip to Thunder Bay this summer with my kiddos as in Ontario most of our beaches along Lake Superior don't allow you to pick rocks up off the beach but in the water they are fair game. I loved the Mr Scoopy cam. I recently got a Scoopy also and found that scooping up rocks takes some fenagling, especially when there's a current. Lol... Nice to know that it wasn't just me. Thanks for taking us along. Blessings
The scoopy cam was a great idea! After watching you struggle to pick up a rock, I'm kind of glad I didn't buy one of those scoopers. My spoon on a stick is a little easier to operate. I think it helps that the spoon is sort of pointy. I usually attack the rocks with the end of the spoon rather than coming at it from the side like you do. The downside of my rock scoop is that the spoon bends if I pick up something too big. The other one I made at the same time eventually broke where I bent it. I don't like to correct you, but as a guy who lives in a town that was once known as the cement capital of the world because we produced more than anywhere else, I think I should tell you that your Minnesota puddingstone is concrete, not cement. The cement is the part between the aggregate that holds everything together.
@@AgateDad I still say cement instead of concrete sometimes. My father in law worked at the cement plant in town and I also taught part time at our community college where there is a concrete tech program. I've been corrected enough times that I should know better.
@Michigan Rocks, I use an old metal ice fishing skimmer on a dollar store broom handle. Works GREAT - so well that my rock hunting partner made one for himself.

Another cool video!! We hav a lil summer cabin in Brainerd. My wife has always wanted to go to Duluth. I can hav her drop me off on sum beach and she can go sightseeing. Lol !! We just retired and moved to mount Ida Arkansas. Quartz capital of the world they say . We moved here for the fishing and scenic beauty of the mountains . We used to live in Illinois, I found lots of geodes and fossils there ! Sure do like walking beaches and streams way more than diggin in tailings piles down here. 😎

You certainly have a knack for great finds. I live in Superior, AZ actually was named after the Lake Superior mining company in the late 1890. There were actual physical ties to Lake Superior in some way. Nice fire agate here too. I'm learning from your vids. The high definition work is done very well, thanks for sharing!

So,,the amethyst maybe came from Thunder Bay amethyst deposits??? Beauty!! We get some of hour Superior agate from glacial till down here in S.W. Iowa...! I LOVE ROCKHOUNDING!! Still learning how to locate places to bunt with permission...have to find some first right? Hubby and I went up some of the coastal route in MN. Looming for a public access to some beaches to bunt, but don't find any..:-( I'm used to collecting rocks in Maine when I lived there. Out here much different. Would LOVE to collect some amethyst at Thunder Bay Canada...maybe some day! Great, refreshing video AG!!! 🤗😇👍🙋
There's amethyst formations here in Minnesota too I believe, ive heard about it but everyone's pretty hush hush on the location. As far as spots, there are a ton of spots to just pull off and it's public.
@@AgateDad Really?! Must be further up from Split Rock? We drove up after visiting Duluth but didn't notice any signs for public access.. I would have loved for hubby and I to Beach comb and take tons of pix! Beautiful land and waterscapes! In fact,,some of that drive reminded me of eastern Down East Maine where I lived.. Duluth area is or was like one of Americas best kept secret..not over crowded! Really enjoyed the area! Have to make an effort to get up that way and further ..Oh Gooseberry Falls was awesome goo, even though there wasn't much flowing thru. The visitors building is fantastic! Long drive from here...like 10hrs or so.. All The best! Be safe out there!! Will be enjoying your videos!😁👍🙋

Hi Taylor, once again some great looking pieces of agate & Jasper. I just noticed something interesting at 1:33, when you brought up that beech worn a date, sitting on the handle above it was what looked like a mauve coloured rock, it looks like it is covered in dots or is it just a play of light. Another interesting video with some diverse finds. Keep Safe & Keep Rockin.

Wonderful specimens "Dad". From your home page, I can affirm there is nothing better than raising little rockhounds. I am looking forward to my grandchildren being rockheads but it will have to be their parents that teach them since grandpa is too old and unhealthy to collect any longer. A possible tip on the Gem Scoop....er.... Scoopie. Tip the handle forward just a bit. For some reason, since the leading curved edge is sharper than the sides, the rocks "stick" to it a bit easier. I'm sure the water has an effect. When I was still able to collect I used my Gem Scoop A LOT.... but being in the desert I didn't have to deal with water; just sand.
I wonder if there's a way to have a live feed from the Go Pro. That way you can keep it under for a longer period of time while watching the feed while wading. All you would need to do is insulate the Go Pro, keeping the lens clear. I bring this up because there's a lot that it hard to distinguish w/ the rippling water leaving shadows on the lake bed edges. Another thought, wonder how well one of the grabbers on a pole would work (not suggesting Scoopy retires [wouldn't put that thought in yours or {his?} head])? Just another tool in your arsenal for finding specimens (can sling it on your back for easy carrying). Another great vid. One last question, does the lake ever heat up enough to not be freezing, where you won't be worried about possible damage through cold temperatures?
It might have a warm day, but typically cold. I have thought of other..ideas..and others touched on it, may have to try to it out this summer.. it'll be so ridiculous that you won't miss it haha
Great video! Since Scoopy is all thumbs, you might consider using a grabber/reacher. I've used one with great success when rock hunting. And I think you should be able to transfer over the Scoopy cam!

I enjoy your channel very much! By the way, I wanted to highly recommend you to buy yourself a *metal detecting scoop.* The item has a long handle, and looks like a very small bucket with holes and it is made of metal. 🤔 I think it may help more with picking up the rocks, or I can be wrong.
I found a very large agate embedded in amygdaloidal rhyolite in the Porcupine Mountains a week ago, 4 hr hike from car. It was too heavy for me to carry out so I left it for others to enjoy.

here in ohio we would love to have some of the things you throw away.we have fossils but very little stone you can polish.you could sell the stones you do not want .
