Looking back between this movie and recent reacher series it’s just night and day. Don’t get me wrong Tom is an amazing actor and I love his movies, but he just doesn’t fit this role like Alan does. Tom just lack that intimidation factor in him, and this movie just made him looked horrible to put it in a bad way it’s like an edgy wanna be teenager pretending to be a tough guy.
I seen a video about the current Reacher series. The narrator made some points on how the series is becoming less interesting. I'm looking forward to watch, chiefly because I'm easily entertained anyway. But I do hope that if this is true that the writers and producers enjoy many years for a lasting and successful series.

Having read all the books…and digging Alan as Reacher…a perfect fit really, except for the size difference, he did all the REACHER stuff. I enjoyed both films. And Cruise showing that this character worked, made Alan chance happen. Without Cruise we never see the TV series.
I’ve read every jack reacher book, about 28 of them I think. In the books reacher is a really big guy about 240 lbs. when reading the books I still get a mental image of cruise lol

Of course, Tom Cruise can also hang off of jet planes as they take off and can also parachute off of dirt bikes as he rides them off a cliff and then lands on a moving train, so it must be real.
If you are not a fighter in a fight, you go down fast because most people cannot take a hit. But even season fighter can get one shot. It all depends on angles and force.
That not entirely true. I have seen fight scenes where the fighters get hit so many times with fists baseball bats or crowbars but are still going strong when they should be dead.

I was just thinking the same thing. It was only after I had seen the movies that I found out how different Cruise was physically from Reacher in the books, and how spot on Alan Ritchson was.
Tom Cruise was very good and believable as Reacher, he may not fit the description of Reacher in the book but he was very believable and personally I preferred his portrayal of the character to the big new guy in the series.,
The only problem I had with the Reacher books was that he was too big. The times when he was put upon by some guys, who in real life, would have walked away from a huge guy like Reacher from the books. I thought that worked for Tom in the films because he wasn't a giant, so the bad guys thought they wouldn't have much of a problem with him.

having seen only the movies and youtube clips of the tv show, and having not read the books, i think cruise is more believable than the tv guy, and here's why: the tv clips often show some guy(s) challenging reacher to a fight. personally, i'd hestiate to challenge someone that big and obviously strong to a fight. the smaller cruise is a more likely target that a typical tough guy would confidently go after.

Comparing a low budget made for TV series to a big budget Tom Cruise movie is an unfair comparison. Yet, I like each of these actors in the roll of Jack Reacher. That's an odd statement, considering one of the few guys who bested Reacher in the books was 4'11".
Everyone hypes Alan Ritchson as a better Reacher. After rewatching these, Tommy did an excellent job as well, in a different way.

When Tom Cruise's version of Jack Reacher killed guys it was that they laughed to death at the fact that dinky little Tom Cruise was playing a character who was supposed to be a 6'5" behemoth. I was a fan of the novels from way back and always hated Tom Cruise in this role.
Tom Cruise is so small he had to dress the jacket with another jacket inside.
I believe Tom as Jack Reacher more than the TV guy because why in the world would fight someone that is supposed to be like 6'5" and jacked

The movies are great. I saw them before I got to read a Reacher novel. Lee Child puts a lot of emphasis on Reacher's size. Tom Cruise is not that guy. Alan Ritchson is.
That's not Jack Reacher; that's a dwarf, I believe his name is Tom Cruise. Jack Reacher looks a lot more like Alan Richeson.

Watching these things with Tom Cruise is like watching a Bruce Lee film looks great, but you know it would never happen. When Arnold Schwarzenegger beats up three guys in a film you gonna go that doesn’t look great but it could happen.
