    To those who don't play piano it might seem an over emotional performance, but as a low level wizard watching this grand master wizard perform so well, i can only imagine he's seeing pulsing color and imagery with his eyes closed. Incredible performance.

    I love the fact that he makes "odd faces" because it means that he's getting lost in the music, you can tell he loves playing, and expressing himself through his talent. Like, whenever any of you do something you love, I bet you act differently, and even make different facial expressions. Hop off, he's amazing.

    • @NoferTrunions

    • @DaviSilva-oc7iv
      @DaviSilva-oc7iv 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      What about Horowitz, Rubinstein, Heifetz, David Oistrakh and others who didn't do "odd faces" but were exceptional virtuosos?

    • @NoferTrunions
      @NoferTrunions 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I've said this before: if those facial expression were genuine, there would often be tears - I mean I sometimes tear up when I hear the epic Beethoven, etc. But since these virts don't, then I say it's just show business. If you are lost, your expression is bliss. You don't see mothers acting out when holding their newborns.
      And even if these expression are real, even with no tears, then I say the artist, being a conduit from The Creative to the music is "leaking" - some of that "creative" intended for the music has leaked out in the form of body expression. It's an energy argument - I'm an engineer.

    I have always been sceptical of Lang Lang but to me this is utterly beautiful. So many pianist see the music as a way to demonstrate their virtuosic skill but he takes this so slowly that you can feel the effect of each beautiful chord and he combines it with such musical passion and emotion. One of the only pianists to do 'impressionism' justice.

    • @felixreich9485

      This piece requires little in the way of mechanical virtuosity, but MUCH VIRTUOSITY in the area of tone balancing in the chords so the voicing is correct, and great judicial care with respect to rubato. It allows such room for musical interpretation. I love it, but it IS deceptively difficult!

    Guys, stop making fun of how he plays the piano.
    IMO, THAT'S how you truly enjoy music: when your whole body flows with the song, and you're just taken away by the music. And I think that that makes a song sound that much better. The more emotion and soul that is put into a song, the better it sounds.
    So I suggest you all shut up about it and enjoy the musical artistry.

Pour une petite merveille, trop courte à mon gré, jouée cette fois par Lang-Lang, le pianiste chinois, qui apporte, en plus, sa légéreté de touche à la traditionnelle et surprenante rénovation musicale de Debussy. I don't see how anyone could criticize this performance, it's so personal to him and how he thinks it should be played. And by doing this there's so much more emotion in it! who cares what he does with his face

    the way i see he played beutifully. lots of pianists think the faster u play the better u are and that's not true. Some musics are just better when played slow, and his performance transmitting all the feelings of this music was outstanding.

    I saw some people that have no worth to watch this video. I wish to God you would close mouth(maybe your fingers)and eyes to hear this piece. Then this posting will make your day more rich

    I think the way Lang Lang shows that he is enjoying the music is melodramatic.

    I don't understand the hate for this. People don't realise Lang Lang is spot on with the timing, tone and rhythm. Personally, when they hate this they are also hating on Debussy because the interpretation of this piece is just as Debussy wrote on the sheet...

    • @El-zd9jp
      @El-zd9jp 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I dont want to hate but i think you should get your facto right. Debussy didnt Write this Piece like that. Lang lang is going faster at some parts and slower at others than what was written. He is not on time, but that's okay because it's his interpretation. Debussy wrote freely for the speed, so the pianist interprets it individually however he wants to. So he isn't playing exactly like Debussy wrote it or on time and he shouldn't be.

      Actually, you can find Debussy's own performance of the piece on TH-cam and it's nothing like this. Although the piece is certainly open to interpretation, I personally find Lang Lang's overdone. th-cam.com/video/wv8iHEM4g7Q/w-d-xo.html

    Its called emotion, i personally like to see movement, instead of someone crunched up playing notes off a sheet of music, lang lang finds each note and brings them forth with emphasis and feeling to express every piece of the composition to give it meaning.
    You should try it when you play, it helps to relax the body and you enter a trance phase which helps you play smoothly.

    This one of the best performances of this composition I've ever experienced along with Zimerman's from the Deutsche Grammophon Preludes album.

    Personally i think Lang Lang is a joy to watch!!!
    His music is beautiful and it shows his obvious passion for music!
    I would rather watch someone like Lang Lang who has expression than someone who has a face like -_- and plays like a machine!
    It gives the music it's own unique feel and adds emotion!
    Lang Lang is freaking amazing!!! ^-^

    Personnellement, je connaissais surtout Lang Lang avec Martha via "ma mère l'Oye" de Ravel...Epoustouflant quatre mains !!!! Je le découvre avec cette pièce de Debussy.. Il fait du cinéma, certes mais il l'a joue juste... Troublant. Emotionnant. Magnifique prestation de Lang Lang. Respect...
