My mum has Alzheimer's. I put headphones on her and played her this piece, and she has been moved to tears all afternoon. she keeps saying; "I don't know how he does it!"
She saw Lang Lang in concert years ago in London and she has mentally, literally been back at that concert.

Jesus....this had me in tears. For me it goes back a very long way.....as a small boy maybe 6 or 7 hearing the neighbour play it in the evening. It struck a chord with me as music has been in my life throughout even though i cannot play any instrument. I'm 70 years old now.....in tears!!

Lang Lang's version is beautiful but above all I prefer the master Rubinstein's version.
Hacker0_o his temp is out of place due to the use of rubato- which means to play without a proper tempo, or something likw that. It is often used in romantic period, and this piece is from the romantic period.
To those who play this piece, I doubt they will play this piece without the use of rubato

Best interpretation of Liebestraum I've heard.. Pure of emotion and control..
Honestly, I've never seen an interpretation of any classical piece by Lang Lang that I liked. This is his first ever performance that truly left me speechless. He doesn't play it by the classical rules of interpreting a piece, he instead pours his heart out on the piano and makes something way more beautiful. Bravo!

I agree, having always considered LL to be rather robotic & metronomic. I am guessing that this song must have some personal meaning for him the way he caresses thru some of the notes.
the appassionata by Beethoven he also played well ..but I agree most performances I don't like either. But slower pieces he plays really touching. The fast pieces sometimes get messy and weird.

they are trying to find stupid excuses to snipe this performer. idk why. for valentina lisitsa they go like 'she is fucking best' and for lang lang they are like 'he is fucking shit.' even though lang lang is way more skilled than valentina lisitsa.
You have to understand that Liszt had a lot of hardships that this guy never faced, ergo, he does not have nearly enough background to know how to play the piece with full effect. It’s not the performers fault, especially if they don’t have time to research the composer.
I personally, don’t like his interpretation but I’m not here to judge.

Why, I've never found Lang Lang's facial expression bothering me. I usually listen to music with my ears, not my eyes. And my ears tell me he plays it heavenly.

A very animated performer, but no doubt that he lives and breathes this music from his soul. I know people sometimes make fun of the facial expressions and gestures, but can't deny his brilliance! I close my eyes and hear a virtuoso at work here, so beautiful that it brings tears to my eyes :-) BRAVO! ~Jackie

His performance is so thoroughly planned out (and I'm not referring to his actual playing, but rather to his catalog of embarrassingly hyper-emotive, erotic facial expressions) that he could probably be a success as a movie actor. Regardless of the argument whether he overdoes his expression, a blind person will love his interpretations more than anything. Perhaps, critique like most of you shouldn't rely on sight. After all, we absorb music through our ears right?

Beautiful. Definitely the best recording/performance I have heard by far. Lang Lang puts so much genuine emotion into his music. The run at 3:08 is often times played harshly and fast, but Lang Lang plays it most delicately. Absolutely Beautiful.

I was not really one of his fans - until now. He must have been very inspired while playing this version.. the melody phrasing from the very beginning on is very moving, absolute perfection, total concentration. Good job, Lang Lang..!

This is the trick. Every note. When I listen to Lang Lang, I hear every note. Individualy. Even when he plays very fast concertos like Rachmaninof #2. Lang Lang had to be born. Well, such a mastery did not come alone. How many days, weeks, years did Lang Lang spent to reach such perfection.
The lead up from 2:50 to the chord at 2:58 literally gives me chills every time. This whole piece hits deep i dont know how else to describe

This is my favorite interpretation because of how controlled the passage at 2:56-3:07, that whole progression from 2:52 that led to the chord at 2:58 was magical . That is what separated him from other pianists like Arrau, Rubinstein, Cho etc
He literally told a story on stage there, I bet the sound acoustics were amazing for that concert hall also.
This was the only rendition of love dream that made me tear - it brought me back to my childhood home, filled with bittersweet memories. Thank you Lang Lang

hearing him fudge notes in the first cadenza, have to take little pauses to hit those double hand octave jumps, fudging lots of notes in the left hand (most noticeably @ 2:50) makes me feel a lot better about how long it's taking me to get this up to speed. He plays with such feeling that it still sounds great with all the mistakes

His chaotic and spazistic style of playing adds so much color to it and creates a whole new depth to the music. 2:45 really shows this and it’s just so spine chilling when he stops playing chaotic and suddenly plays sweetly
