This video is just brilliant !! I really love the sheer magic and humanity it embodies. Thank you so much for posting it - it is very much appreciated. The times shown in this video were the best of times, and life was a pleasure then. There were no Self Centred Politicians, and no Incompetent Government, imposing draconian and unjust laws on the undeserving citizens of Ireland, In order that everyones lives be made as miserable as humanly possible..
The rose tinted glasses are strong. Ireland 1988 was grim. Very grim. Don’t forget Charlie haughey was Taoiseach and the corrupt brown envelopes were flying around the place. Ireland today is far far better. Thank god.
Real insight into how life was in a rural town in Ireland just over 30 years ago. It would be interesting to know how many of the younger generation present were able to make a life in Macroom or was it emigration for them? It would also be good to know if anyone present at the ceili could tell what was the occasion being marked? As an aside stopped the night in Macroom on holiday from Scotland in the late nineties and it had not changed too much from what is shown here. Rare ould times indeed!
Cant bet the irish for good music, god bless you one and all.
