    This was the first ever episode of Mythbusters that I watched when I was around 12 or 13 years old. I remember saying that they're doing it wrong or something dumb like that. Truly, from my first MB episode, I was already a typical viewer in every sense of the word 😂

      I remember when they tested ancient Chinese paper armor, they did loads of tests but one in particular, horse riding while wearing the armor was not shown on TV, it was uploaded to the Discovery website, when they did the aftershow on the website (which used to be answering 10 questions from the viewers about the myths/episode) one of the questions was: why didn't you test horse riding in the armor, the answer was: we did, but it didn't make it to tv due to time constraints.
      Seeing these bs free episodes and how much stuff they manage to tests truly puts things in perspective

    for me key word in plywood myth is "wind". This can create additional lift force needed to slow down drop. this is like in case of kite. Kite alone will not work like parachute but with a bit of wind.... can lift a person up. This would be still like miracle but.... should be tested again ;)

    I think it goes without saying that depleted uranium would be under "U" rather than "D" in any filing system, and Jamie would definitely have separate "Uranium" and "Uranium (depleted)" boxes if he was allowed to have either.

    I think the reason Adams wooden parachute failed and turned over is due to buster being to close. Parachutes have long lines to attach the chute to the load, for stability.

    Also, also, actually, actually...
    My humble idea is, that the plywood myth is about aerodynamics of much larger object, than plywood and human body. I guess, that aerodynamics of the skyscraper itself might be the thing. Some skyscrapers must create really wild turbulences, esp. during "really windy day", on some yet in progress building. Maybe, that due to sheer luck, the worker may had been blown inside the buiding again quicky enough to not die. I know, some 20 odd years later, but still... 😀
    Thanks for the episode.

      @markco_3419 Ok so a humans terminal velocity is about 200kmh prone and 270 kmh head first. In their small scale test they say the plywood slows the guy by 25%. That checks out meaning youd need 200kmh wind too keep him from moving downwards. I don't wanna do the calculations of the velocity of a human holding plywood falling 5 stories but its safe to assume you need over 100kmh of wind going straight upwards. And thats well into hurricane territory

    • @CaptainSharkbait
      @CaptainSharkbait 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      Nevermind. On the full scale test buster hits the ground at 54 kmh/ if you take away 25% from the plywood that gets you around 40kmh. That is a 5 "fresh breeze" or 6 "strong breeze" on the beaufort scale and very common. Add to that that your legs can easily take a 10kmh impact and this is abolutely plausible.
      My earlier calculations would apply to terminal velocity ie, falling from a plane. For 5 stories this is doable.

    I wonder how a bubble umbrella would have done. It can't turn inside out, thus theoretically it would stay intact all the way down. Of course the surface area is practically nonexistent compared to the other test objects, but it would have been interesting to see.

    The reason none of the radar busting stuff works is how the radar works or WITH WHAT the radar works. It doesn't matter what you do to the car or it's interior as neither radar nor ladar are actually aiming or measuring the car, they are aiming at the licence plate. The only way to actually impair the radar by changinge something on your car is to change your licence plate, that's also why motorcycles can not be radarred the conventional way as they don't have a front plate, they need to be measured from behind ;)
