      The way that works is by having a grid of tiny low resolution cameras that are looking through the gaps between pixels of the screen, really cool how small things have become, but it also begs the question, how good are those really? could we fool it with an image of a fingerprint?
      We need new mythbusters for our new tech ☹

      At work now, I have to scan my fingerprint to clock in. It's high resolution, it uses capacitance to tell the difference between rubber/gel and human skin, it looks for a heartbeat, it has an infrared component that looks for blood vessels under the skin, it has a few other features . . . and it's entirely useless.
      At the high security setting, it refuses to work for the same person the day after they set their fingerprint. At the low security setting, you can just shine your phone's flashlight into it and it works. And in both settings, you can tap it on the side and it works. And in both settings, you can tape a strong magnet to the bottom and it'll just always pass the fingerprint.
      ergo, my workplace still doesn't have my fingerprint on file as I simply never set it in the first place, and there's a magnet sealed up underneath it so that no one has to have a manager come down and retake their fingerprint every single shift.
      . . . technology!

    It should be noted that all the shenanigans worked on this particular fingerprint lock because it was an optical lock, as most were at the time. From what I understand, those worked from scanning the fingerprint as an image and comparing it from there, meaning that anything that could show a clear enough image of the right fingerprint would fool the scanner.
    Fingerprint locks today are more tactile, meaning they read the fingerprint through electrical impulses of the shape and texture of the finger on a sensor pad, meaning none of these methods (With perhaps the exception of the ballistic gel finger) would work.

    hmmmm..... making estimates about the "Nitro-Vile" with no reference points in the frame? well, i used the picture where the vile is droped into the save and the hand had roughly the same sice like my hand and so i also made some estimates. in my opinion the vile has ~10cm hight and ~2.5cm diameter. so after a little bit of math i came to the conclusion the vile should have a volume of 613592 mm³ or roughly 613.6ml. 4 times more than the 140ml Adam estimated. but because 613ml is a very unlikly volume, 750ml (3/4 liter) or 500ml (1/2 liter) are more common, i would estimate there should be 500ml Nitroglycerin in that vile.
    ...now i'm going to watch the rest of the episode ;D

    @gbulmer 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The safe might not need waterproofing. Push a big plastic bag through the hole, and fill that bag with water. It's less than ideal, but it might still couple the energy of the explosion to the safe enough to blow the whole door off. The hole in the safe top could be cut using a less destructive method. The demolished safe top at 47:03 looks like concrete wrapped in metal armour. The "Hatton Garden safe deposit" burglars drilled multiple holes through 20" thick concrete" big enough to crawl through. However, in the spirit of the myth, where the 're-locker' doesn't matter, drill a hole in the top through the concrete, Drill a 'circle' in the steel with a ring of holes?
    If the plastic bag technique doesn't couple enough of the explosive energy to the door, because of the empty cavity, fill the door cavity with something thicker than water. The idea is to use something much more viscous than water, so sealing leaks is easier, eg. 'Jell-o' which will idealy stop leaking as it sets. Seal the door, then fill that much smaller door-cavity volume with gallons of quick setting 'Jell-o'. It can be prepared in advance, and already be cool before pouring. Maybe thick oil would work and the leaks be a minimal issue?
    Best Wishes, ☮

      @@mdnpascual since it was leaking, submerge the safe and it will probably fill up.

    Its kinda sad to see this show so many years after it released. The guys are not talking to each other, grant passed away and everyone moved on to different things.
    Sigh
    Make me wonder what imahara would be up to if he was still around

      To be fair, outside the show I don't think Adam and Jamie did much fraternizing, and of course people move onto different things, but we still have all this goodness online. As for Grant, if he was still around I would bet good money that he would be building some form of adorable death machine. RIP Grant.

    given they need to melt a hole on the top of the safe, would it not be better to just cut a big enough hole to get all the loot?

    • @WwarpfirewW
      @WwarpfirewW 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It would take too long 🤔 thus busting it, even if lance takes kinda longer, imagine how long would take to cut out a frame. If there was gold or golden bars, the robber would need to get good grip on it due to heavy weight.
      Also it might be filled with water without leaking using latex balloon, it would stretch and hold all the water, leaving top above hole could be used for explosive entry

    Personally I think the using water to bust open a glass relocker safe was busted from the thermal lance drilling alone not only did he use way more rods but those rods set fire to everything in the safe and that busted the loot being undamaged right there and then there was the fact that they had to open the safe to make it water tight something the burglar couldn’t do and if he could open the safe he wouldn’t have bothered with this method and true the water hammer effect blew the door off the safe the loot was far from undamaged so personally I’d call that myth busted not confirmed

    • @AeonLibertas
      @AeonLibertas 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Depends. Technically, the myth was "can you use water to detonate and open a relocker safe?" - and that, yes you can. You can use another drill, you can even forgo the whole waterproofing and just fill it faster, or take your time and proof it. The movie also showed the loot was in a seperate box which MIGHT even protect from the thermal lance (probably not, but still, it might).
      So, if anything, this should be "confirmed - but impractical", because if you can take that kind of time, there are easier ways ... nevermind that, given so much time, you could even say 'screw it' and just lance the entire goddamn front, the locks be damned :D

    17:10 in. Arnold didn't "use" mud to conceal himself, it was a fortunate accident against the Predator. He then "used" it later.
