Hey, I just bought civ over the weekend and I'm kinda wondering if there are any civilizations that are more "noob friendly" than others. I know that some civs have advantages over others, but I was just looking for a a decent civ that might be good to work with while I learn the ropes.
Hey Filthy, I noticed you didn't go for Monument, that's 6 to 7 turns of production saved, but about the same turns saved in social policies, which I believe are more important, specially for early game Tradition. Any reason you believe it's good not build the early Monument? Additionally, if you go for early Drama and Poetry, you get the free Amphitheater.
+Gabriel Zaren The problem is that you almost always want to go Shrine first to get the best possible Pantheon pick, so your build order will look something like this: Scout; Scout; Shrine. That's already twelve to fifteen turns wasted, depending on how much production your capital has. Incase you get a Culture Ruin you are already really, really close to legalism, so building the Monument might even waste hammers. Early game production is the most valuable production and you want every bit to count - Shrines, Workers, Settlers or Archers are simply much, much better of an investment.
What do you think is best, having a very good starting spot with a mediocre civ or a very good civ with a mediocre starting spot?

River bias is definitely the best. America has relatively weak bonuses, but I've never come close to losing with it.

***** I would recommend a civ with stronger Unique Abilties to help you out. I suggest Poland or Egypt for strong civs which are easy to play.
Terrible everything except the civ including the pantheon choice.
