I'd say play it by ear on that. It could be awkwardness, esp. if you're too quiet and the other person is striving for ways to carry the conversation.
Gotta be outliers in here. When I went on a first date with my now wife, religion was definitely a lot of our discussion, but we also met at a Catholic holy hour. BUT, even with that, totally with you that keeping it light and jovial is the best way to go.
I agree. I would love to meet a Christian too. Talking about our faith would be a great first date start. If we've already well established we are both Christians, and that is important to us, then it's a huge thing we have in common. But the advice to keep it light still is good. You can get into controversies right away that you shouldn't. Even for Catholics that have a more commonly laid out faith, there are plenty of divisive things these days that would be best not be launched into.

Religion kinda should be brought up because you shouldn’t waste each other’s time if y’all got different views on how children should be raised! Like one is Muslim and the other is Hindu… it’ll honestly never work out unless they both break away from their families! Religion really does play a big role in a lot of people’s lives and should be addressed asap because waisting time is really stupid! We aren’t young forever!

I don’t get this. Why would you save the hard stuff for later? What if you really connected on the small stuff and next thing you know the next time they tell you something really big and now you feel more flustered and uncomfortable because they revealed a deal breaker
but because when you first meet one or both parties may be nervous, not the best time to have heavy conversations

I don’t like to waste time or my money. Waiting to have “serious” conversations can be a huge waste of time if you’re not compatible. I ask the tough questions on the first date. Save myself the time and the money.
