- this is the stock exhaust sound of a 2020 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X with the new 3.8 VQ38DD V6 and 9 speed automatic transmission. cold start in about 40F degree weather. same exhaust as the 2021 and 2022 Frontier.

Sounds similar to the 4.0 which I like, I love the way the 4.0 sounds. In my opinion the best sounding v6 on the market for trucks
I recently saw an early 90ish Buick Century with a 3.3L and custom exhaust at a local car show. I was shocked at how good that engine sounds. The owner told me the GM 3.8L sounds even better.
@@DaveBuildsIt the 3.8 sounds great, one of the best stock exhausts on a 3.8 in my opinion is the 2004-2008 Pontiac Grand Prix with the quad tip dual exhaust. 1998-2003 Grand Prix 3.8 dual exhaust sounds good too but I think the 04-08 sounds better.

Idle sounds similar to the 4.0, but under acceleration the 4.0 sounds deeper
A little bit, yes. At cold start idle, they sound similar. Under hard acceleration, the 3.8 sounds higher pitched compared to the 4.0, kind of similar to the VQ35 and VQ37
@@frontier_etc The 3.8 revs slight higher than the 4.0..The 4.0 topped out at exactly 6k rpms, while the 3.8 seems to go to at least 6500 rpms before performing it's teleport shifts..🤣 I'd vouch in and say that it does sound similar to the vq35 but still deeper..I can't wait to see how it'll sound with an exhaust setup..Randoms gonna think you pushin a GTR truck...

How fast is it compared to a VQ40? Could a VQ40 with a CAI compete with the performance?
The magazines said it was 1 or 2 tenths quicker to 60
Got my hands on a 2021 and I think it’s really the transmission that’s make the truck feel quicker because of the responsiveness. AND I’m averaging 25mpg!!!
@@nodnarbz_1327 damn that's pretty good, the performance I've found in a 2007 pathfinder and a CAI is on par if not a bit quicker than the 3.8 and the 9 speed, but I average like 18 mpg😅
@@nodnarbz_1327 carefully about them numbers. I got a 24 Pro-4X and the computer said 25.6mpg but calculating it out came to 22.4mpg.
Other owners will also tell you the computer is off up to 2mpg
