  • So, today we are out and about walking in the Cotswold village and civil parish of Winstone, which is located in the county of Gloucestershire, England. In 2011 the population was 270. The village Anglican Church is dedicated to Saint Bartholomew and was constructed in the 11th century. It is a Grade I listed building. Also seen in the video towards the end of the walk is Winstone Baptist Chapel which was built in 1816.
    Thanks for walking with me.

Thank you for always going around the local church when you walk. So pivotal to what the village or town would have been all about. Some of our oldest buildings and usually with the neighbouring tree, which can be just as old. This one looks like Magwitch could be lurking there somewhere! Love old gravestones which unfortunately can be so hard to read due to lichen, etc.

Hi, Clare. I hope you are well & your weekend has got off to a good start. Totally agree with you! The other thing that blows my mind is all of the hard work that would of gone into building places of worship, no power tools or hydraulic lifting equipment all the way back then. Many thanks for your time & comment. All the best to you. OAAW

What a fine way to end the year- with a last walk of 2023, at dawn, and through a lovely village. (I am assuming it’s the last one, though obviously I don’t know your posting plans). I am so glad that I discovered your channel several months ago, as even in that brief period of time it had been a delight! The leisurely, relaxing pace you keep- coupled with your attention to interesting details in what you pass (ie: stopping to examine flowers, berries, landmarks; showing interesting features in buildings, churches, graveyards; giving beautiful views of the trees reaching up into the sky, or to branches tossing in the wind)- make the viewer feel as if they are truly there, enjoying the walk along with you. The horse at the end today was a nice climax, too, as I love horses! (Little does that horse know that he is now being seen ‘round the world! : ).
Thank you for your work in making these splendid videos in 2023, and I look forward to the nice things you have in store for us in 2024. Happy new year to you and your family!
    P. S. What is a “grade 1 listed building”? This term is not familiar to us in the US- or at least it wasn’t to me….

Hi, Janet. Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Glad you enjoyed our very last walk of 2023. Just one more video to go before we say goodbye to this year and that is the ‘Recap’ video which is airing tomorrow:). Oh, Grade I buildings are extremely important on an architectural & historical basis in the UK and they are highly protected. Hope to see you tomorrow if you are ‘Out and about’ :). All the best. I thought the “grade 1” might be something of that nature; thanks for clarifying. I must say that I do admire the emphasis in the U.K. for preservation of these old structures that are such historical and architectural gems! Though there are exceptions, of course, I sometimes feel that the attitude is too cavalier over here, and I wish these old places were more appreciated. I was amused in thinking that by U.K. standards, the 1816 church would be considered young; over here we would comment on how old it is! Perspective is everything! 🙂
      Looking forward to the recap…..

Such a lovely wreath. Pity that the church yard was unkempt, and overgrown in places. Was a quiet and peaceful walk, until the horse 🐎 and rider came up behind you.
Was too late to request a replay that my wife and I enjoyed through the door through the Garden wall and into the woods. Cannot remember the name of it. Sorry!
All the best for the remainder of 2023! Hoping you have a Happy and Prosperous New Year 2024!

Podziwiam.

🍻 close to lagar time! (Yet, me nevers imbibed, am ADDICTED to a dark bubbly sodapop tho but not the 1 associated with polar bears) Now THAT be a primal church, I thought 1st view it looked like it could crumble under the weight of the crows; when we walked to the backside, yes, many repairs to it, the gigantic trees, the "careful" sign. How glorious her front looks out over the meadows. A few steps down the road, WOW, huge flock of lammies. We definitely must walk here 3 times more, to soak in the trees in tweaking Spring, full out Summer, painted Autumn. And say, could we take the path thru the lammy field? By the way, I found the term for specialty trimmed trees: pollarding. Seems the ancients prove again they were more intelligent (current Cotswolders too) intead of killing trees for their resources, Elders merely cropped tops and limbs for an eternal source. You know who's older than Painswick, Winst. I got curious seeing the meadows horizoning in every compass direction, so I overlaid map of England over me own State, she be naught a ⅛th piece of the pizza. How do y'all all fit in there?!? Me thinks, not expert, those beautiful berries are winter berries (Little Goblins) by the leafs which ruled out Hawthorns and Rowans (all 3 🏴‍☠️). Perfect End of Year video, Sir🕶️, delightfully perfect, walking us in the "old world". And me changed me mind again, you see, as kid, very 1st class in ancient history sucked me into a black hole, I felt so at home like I once lived amongst them, especially their ingeniousness, that I rather like to live here in Winst. Every building is old, repaired, amended. And, next walk here? I'll be the one atop the pony (oh yeah, me ride still at me uncle's dairy farm, but not enough as it's 12hr 2-way drive time, he side-raises Tennessee Walkers, fine lot). Welp, tomorrow it's 🎇 to the man with the scythe! You ready?

Good day, Lady Jaclyn. Vimto time this end! (Don’t know if it is avail in the 🇺🇸) Think I got it...you are addicted to Dr Pepper? That is actually a nice refreshing drink. I don’t know if you noticed but I couldn’t do a full tour around the back of the church as it was blocked of by massive brambles etc, hence why the two halves. Probably the longest spent on holy ground during a walk. I can imagine walking in the countryside of Winst in the summertime on a barmy day. So, if I am understanding you correctly, the state of Texas is much bigger than 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿, tbh that does not surprise. Something else that does not surprise me, you go horse riding, that is so 😎. Horse riding is pretty mainstream in Texas, right? You are a fountain of knowledge when it comes to history which is also really darn 😎! Almost ready for 2024, just finishing off a certain video for it’s debut on n.y’s day 😉. Thanks for walking with me. All the best to you. OAAW

The best equivalent I can think as Vimto in US is Koolaid, fruit flavored powder mixed in cold water. Thanks for your kind observations and words, frankly, I still don't understand the girlygirl world of worrying about broken fake fingernails, eyelashes fluffier than a squirrel's tail, worrying makeup is messed up 24hrs a day (plus it smells bad), lipstick that makes your lips feel swollen and looks nasty pasted brazenly on every cup, tho I did/do wear rings on odd fingers, which intrigued me grandfather saying his sisters did the same, and adore(d) bracelets.... Vs gossip sessions which hurts other I'd be studying what's living in the grass, or how to use monkey bars for other than their purpose. That's what Cotswold does for me, adventure/learning. You're a good teacher, you know exactly where to study. Appreciated meeting you, Sir🕶️.

@jaclynmwvasquez I'm intrigued...what else could you use monkey bars for? Hang laundry to dry perhaps? I'm afraid I have some bad news...I was not able to include your Kingham clip in the recap video, as I seem to no longer have the exported video (along with other videos missing too from this year!). I did try to download it from my TH-cam Studio but could only get a low resolution d/l and when I put it into the recap project (4K) it looked horrendous due to the low resolution of the clip. On a positive note, you still got your Cutsdean - Sheepzie's clip in the recap video, which is being published tomorrow midday UK time BTW , which is probably around 6am for you at a guess.
