    The fact that there’s no CGI and real 800+ extras and horses just makes this scene all the more fantastic.

      Rance Howard, Ron’s father, helped with the planning the scene.
      Howard family came from Red River area (south border with Texas).

    My small claim to fame. At 1:32 the man riding next to Tom Cruise with the sling on his arm is one of my Uncles. The sling was because one of the previous days of filming he was bucked off his horse.

    Can you imagine how much fun it must have been to be part of this scene, or just to be present when they filmed it?! Just think what the real thing must have been like!
    ...then add a John Williams score - perfection.

    Love that part where the music swells and shows Tom Cruise on his young buck overtaking others, like he is finally getting ahead in life when he has had so many setbacks and hardships. It practically encapsulates the American spirit in just a few seconds.

    • @lauribirkan6367

      Agree. This scene tells us so many things without any kind of dialogue: on one hand we can see an excitement and American spirit among the colonists (which shapes the future of this land), on the other hand I can't never forget an expresson on indians faces - even though we can see that only for a moment. It was their land after all, which was taken from them and given to immigrants for free...

    My favorite part in the scene is when we have the long tracking shot of him on the horse surpassing everyone and you know it's going to happen for him and it's his destiny. That's one of the few things I'm proud of in the history of our country that they actually gave the citizens free land. Still can't believe it till this day

    Just watched this movie for the first time recently, and I don't know how it slid under my radar this long. I loved it: the type of glorious, optimistic, warm hearted American epic I thought had gone out of fashion decades before. It must be the last of it's kind, and as somebody whose favorite movie is Gone With the Wind, I truly appreciate both the scale of this movie, the historical commitment of it, and the lovely romance that grounds the majesty.
    If only Hollywood epics weren't so cynical and hateful now (on the rare occasion they even produce them instead of Star Wars and capeshit).

    When I was in elementary school in OKC, we used to make our own wagons and line up on the grass, then we’d all run with our wagons and it is actually pretty hectic. I tried not get run over and some of the kids wagons tipped over because they went too fast and smashed on the ground. We aren’t allowed to do that anymore. They did this to teach us about the land run.

    First of all, an amazing scene, the music and the visuals were just perfect. Just a logic question, why would people try to use their wooden spoke wheel wagons in a race? They are slower, harder to get over rough terrain, and from the looks of it, half them broke within 10k of the start line, wouldn't it be easier to take a horse off the team, leave the wagon and any family behind and race for the land yourself, then go back and get your stuff?

    Now..... question. Did these people really need to take their entire families on the land race? Could they not have left the women and children in the wagons while they claimed land on horseback?

    • @arian4892
      @arian4892 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ich bin zwar kein Experte, aber ich denke Mal das waren schon einige Meilen die da zurück gelegt wurden. Wie hätten sich die Familien wieder finden sollen? Die Frauen und Kinder hätten die Väter niemals gefunden. Und wenn die Männer gegangen wären, hätte vielleicht jemand ihr Land geklaut. Das sind hier zwar nur Szenen aus einem Spielfilm, aber du kannst ja sehen, dass sie ihre ganzen Sachen mitgenommen haben zum Rennen. Ich denke Mal, die wollten sich dann direkt auf ihrem Stück Land nieder lassen.

    Each white flag marker designated 160 acres. 160 acres today in rural Oklahoma would be worth anywhere from 300k to 1 million depending on the features of the land.

      No it wasnt, tens of thousands of natives already living in the Oklahoma territory (many of whom like the Seminoles and Choctaw had already been forced out of their own lands elsewhere) were either forced out or straight up murdered by US government forces to make way for this land rush.
