Sopranos have become the Beatles of television. Each new decade, we look back at the 10th, 20th, 25th, 30th, anniversary of their run. And, as a fan of both, it's great. Happy to look back at this perfection.
Anthony Mason's skill as an interviewer is just as amazing as this story. He's an artist that makes the work jump off the screen. He's also not afraid of silence. Bravo
Seeing this 25 year anniversary of The Sopranos (hard to believe 25 years already) and seeing these actors 25 years older is a stark reminder of just how fast life passes us by. David Chase is correct. Life is precious and we should enjoy each day we are here.
Between her truly brilliant work on The Sopranos, Oz, Nurse Jackie, and many other smaller roles, a legitimate case could be made for Edie Falco as one of the 10 greatest television actors of all time. Yet her name almost never comes up on “greatest ever“ lists which are compiled.
Absolutely!! And she’s awesome cause u she don’t give a f*ck about recognition. I watched Nurse Jackie after the Sopranos and it cemented Edie Falco’s brilliance 👏
Agreed. She's deserves much more credit. When we first watched Nurse Jackie I just assumed I'd be watching Carmela in scrubs, but she made it her own and I enjoyed it
I'll never forget that time in the early to mid-aughts when HBO had The Sopranos, The Wire, Deadwood, and Six Feet Under, all at the same time... Just breathtaking...
Michael and Steve's podcast rewatching the show with all the stars, writers, directors, and even location scouts was the best rewatch pod out there. The fact it came out right when lockdown started helped so many people have something to look forward to
People's confusion about the ending confounds me to this day. It's perfectly fine not to like it, but the understanding of it always seemed fairly clear to me. I mean it's openly stated at the beginning of the series, there's only 2 ways out of this life - in a cell, or with a bullet, there's no "happy endings". During that final diner scene, Tony says that Carlo is gonna testify. So really, whether he dies 5 seconds later from a gunshot, or 5 years later in jail, the actual detail itself is irrelevant. As we leave him, his life has he knew it is over. THAT'S the "answer".
I think Chase cut away because he couldn't put an end to Tony's story. There was no ending that could have done justice to that character, so that's exactly what he did: no ending.
Chase ended the show in that manner because that is the essence of the life Tony led. That kind of life never stops you don't punch a clock or go on vacation from it. It is relentless and your always looking up no matter if you're eating with your family or doing a hit.....as well the audience of course got to end it on their terms but I believe it was simpler than that and he was conveying that even though we as an audience we're done watching Tony. "The Life" never stops
I knew "The Sopranos" is the greatest show ever, because right after completing all seasons, I could no longer enjoy watching any other show. They set the benchmark so high, it's impossible to reach. In my life, I never watched a show & at the same time felt like I was inside that world & connected to characters like I did with The Sopranos. Its once in a lifetime show. Thanks Eddie and the Cast for this amazing experience
For years, I was disappointed with the ending. That is, until my oldest son explained it to me, and then, I saw the genious in that ending. My son said that there's a scene aboard the boat where there was talk about being shot, and one character said something like "Whe you're shot, you don't know you're dead." In the final scene of the final episode Tony looks at the restaurant door every time someone walks in. One person raises a un as he enters and then, black from Tony's perspective. He doesn't know he's dead. THEN, I saw that the ending was BRILLIANT!
An philosopher was asked about what happened after death, since he didn't believe in heaven or reincarnation, he replied, "Remember before you were born?" "No", the interviewer replied, "Just like that."
Favorite scenesFavorite scenes from the series: …when Meadow introduced her African American/Jewish boyfriend to Tony. …when Tony confronted Dr. Kennedy at the golf course, insisting he respect Uncle Junior and return his phone calls. …when Finn told Tony and his capos that Vito was gay. …when Tony and the family conducted an intervention on Christopher. …when Silvio executed Adriana.
