James Gandolfini's performance as Tony Soprano is the most nuanced and complex acting I've ever seen. The actor disappears and you just see/hear the character. Now that's legendary.
@@alanvonweltin6820 Exactly. It's Daniel Day-Lewis levels of transformation. The voice, the mannerisms, the micro expressions, he completely becomes the character.
I think a big reason why Saints wasn't great was because Chase didn't direct it. His wife (I think) was sick and he had to have someone else do it. We'll never know what his version might have been like.
@@alanvonweltin6820 Alan Taylor directed it. He directed a good amount of episodes of Sopranos. Maybe he is not as good at movies than directing TV. Chase also wanted to make a movie about the New Jersey riots for a long time, but I've heard that HBO wanted him to connect it to Sopranos.
Sopranos is the best show ever. I still watch some episodes from begining to end. And my favorite scene is; Tony and Carmela is sitting by the pool. And Tony says "you are my liffe" to Carmela. Then, Carmela's look to Tony. Wonderful! Edie Falco shows the world with just single look, how to be a complete actress.
Finally got around to watching this show this summer, currently on Season 4. Always knew it was a force, and loved James Gandolfini as an actor from some of his other work (including my introduction to him as a mob enforcer in "True Romance"; if you've never seen it it's definitely worth a watch), but just never had the time or access. Movies are sometimes a 2 hour character study, whereas this is 6 seasons' worth of multiple character studies, and great art is both an expression and attempt to understand humanity. What a great work of art "The Sopranos" is. Salut!
love it that David Chase says “life is precious. If he’d gone to prison or if he died with his face in a linguini, I don’t think we would have thought that” basically saying, enjoy the time you have here, it’s not about the end.
I always felt watching this show that I was eavesdropping on real people and not watching actors. That's how perfectly casted and acted this show was. And, of course, well written as well....
I used to be a b-boy back in the late 90’s, the Junior high school days. The beats nowadays dont mesh well with break’n. Hopefully there is a “renaissance” of this element of hip-hop amongst the youth.
OK, so Chase pretty much confirmed that Tony is dead without saying it. It's just that he didn't want the audience to actually SEE it happen. That the cut to black for 10 seconds without sound had to be symbolic of that and was never meant to be up for debate. "Life is precious" as he stated. There you are for those that doubted it.
I'm just repeating Pion, now the Sopranos series, and each time I gain 3 kg on the scale😂 Great series, you had a great adventure, you are great actors and I thank you for it😊
I was watching Season 3 last week and I noticed something from the episode where Melfi gets graped. The grapist’s name is Jesus Rossi. Took me 20 years to notice that. David Chase is brilliant
I thought Chase ended that way so he could have a Soprano movie in his back pocket in getting funding for another project he might have wanted to do maybe something not commercial whatsoever and getting the funding for it with a promise to make a Soprano movie, which we all know would have killed at the box office.
I've always said that they should make The sopranos an animated series and continue on with that. You still have most of the actors alive the ones that are not you could simply use old stock voice footage or get a voice over actor, I'm sure gandolfini's son would approve and I think it would be great to restart the show right after the restaurant scene and just keep things going from there. I think there's a lot more there and they should make it into something like an animated series but a true animated series something very professional like something very clean and neat I don't mean comical looking I mean serious looking animation. I've already seen a couple of movies and some programs that truly look real although they are still animation. So I think this could be done and I think a lot of people would like it. Plus it would be more cost effective. And I think you could keep the program going great like this and I think a lot of fans would accept it and enjoy it. There's so much talk about it, I think this should happen. Tony doesn't die at the end like a lot of people claims he did, we all know David Chase was keeping him alive because they thought there would be another season and this is already well documented, you bring Silvio out of his coma, and take it from there. Or you can make it a dream sequence and not have the hit maid on everyone it could simply be a dream sequence, God knows Tony soprano had a lot of dream sequences, I think this version of it would be perfect. 👍🤠🇮🇹
As a Drama and Crime Show, The Sopranos is as fine a work as has ever been created. It’s too bad David Chase in almost every interview spins how funny he thought it was. Comedically, it mostly mocked the uneducated via malapropism, which as Italians, we always found lowered bar and offensive. The writing speaks for itself and nothing degrades a brand more than an elderly Creator spinning his work into something it was not. The Sopranos speaks for itself and David Chase should let it stand in its merits without Spin.
