  • It’s my great pleasure to sit down with Sparkyninja David Watts for a Q and A session. Includes changes to the 18th Edition of the Wiring Regulations BS7671.
    The corrections to BS7671 can be found in the link below this includes the resizing of labels back to their original size as in previous versions of BS7671

    Amen to sparky ninja picking up on the skill set of today’s “electricans” the industry is flooded with unskilled labour.

    Because of how much work you, Joe and Matt teach us learners Gaz, I'm surprised your not more popular or famous. 😂

    Good point at the end, i would encourage any apprentice or electrician to try and cover all aspects of electrical work, you fall behind otherwise!! just doing the same thing day in day out such as “metal munching” as it were will limit you and you begin to forget the design and technical aspects to the trade

      GSH Electrical We can talk about fire safety and alarm systems, though it may baffle your learners.
      Not something that is really covered in college.

    Brilliant. Really can relate to the problem in the industry of guessing figures/enquired values. Had the conversation at work about actually proving R2 value/continuity on a minor works rather than just performing a Zs. Zs doesn't prove you have a CPC connected to the MET. It didn't go down well.

    On testing a MCB how do we know or trust a 16 amp 32 amp 50 amp. Will trip when it should.

    So who are the people behind the regulations then ? Why they don’t use people’s like this Ninja or there are many lecturers who are very experienced and highly educated and knowledge why regulators or authority don’t use or why these guy don’t try to make the regulation right ? They are talking online. But they should make the changes if needs to be better

    Lol at the I.R tests!! I'd imagine the meter was screaming at them 🤣🤣

  • @tomorichard
    @tomorichard 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Ramp testing cannot confirm earth leakage current. A low ma clamp meter is what is needed In my opinion.

      @simonaragon1992 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can you elaborate on this view please?

    • @tomorichard
      @tomorichard 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      As said it is only my opinion.
      I believe the ramp test to be unreliable as the only way you can gain some form of idea is test the rcd before any circuits connected (often with neutral dissconnected) and after and see the difference in ma required to cause operation of the rcd but this can be unreliable to confirm fault current as you are using the rcd tripping as a reference as opposed to measuring the actual current with a device designed to do so.

    HELLO LADS
    THE TROUBLE I SEEM TO GET THE MOST IS M/C/Bs TRIPPING WITH TRANSFORMERS BECAUSE OF THE INDUCTION CURRENT
    I HAVE ASKED SEVERAL ELECTRICIANS ABOUT THIS AND EVEN OVERHEAD LADS AND THEY SAY BUNG IT DIRECT TO LINE
    WHO IS RIGHT?

    • @18in80
      @18in80 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If the transformer inrush current is causing the MCB to operate it hasn't been correctly selected. A type 'D' MCB may well be required if a type 'C' is opening every time due to inrush. However changing the MCB type will influence maximum Zs permissible so will restrict the circuit length or require conductors with larger CSA.

    • @simonaragon1992
      @simonaragon1992 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      First stage of design sequence is to determine load characteristics. An MCB operating on Tx inrush is a design issue.
