How to Find a Fault on a Ring Final Circuit (Sockets) Help for AM2 & AM2S Testing and Fault Finding

How to find fault on a ring final circuit sometime called a ring circuit or ring main. Using a Megger MFT tester Marcus sets about finding an open circuit after carrying out stage one testing end to ends. Marcus show you how to split the ring circuit into 2 radial circuits and then test each leg until you find the faulty socket is identified.

Nice video. Separated as 2 radials. You could tell it was the wiring in the socket because a reading at the socket was not detected over either leg. All sockets would give readings over both legs if the cable was damaged in the wall, the highest reading at the socket on each leg denotes end of line, the break is between those 2 sockets. Test continuity between sockets to confirm.

Fault finding videos are where it's at folks! How about covering intermittent faults and line to earth faults due to damp in a socket (seems to be a big hit for me at the minute). Showing the quickest way to find both issues perhaps? There is quicker ways of finding faults rather than splitting down rings again and again for example

This is very much the fault finding method I was taught in college but I get called out about three times a week now for tripping RCDs. There’s always continuity - it’s the LN-E IR that is always the issue. Never seen any tutorials on fault finding that!

Literally have this problem with my kitchen ring. Just 2 sockets stopped working even though one side of the ring still had power that was going to one of the mentioned sockets which I have since checked with the working side of the cable and it's fine...aah the joys 😂 just as I was away to tile my kitchen backsplash as well....something else for my misses to moan at me about 😅

Lighting is a radial. If there was a fault with the line or neutral the lights after the fault wouldn't work.

let’s say you do the end to end on the live for example then and you get a really high resistance reading, how would you go about locating the fault then using the ohms setting as this is the only setting your allowed to use in AM2
