This is the best live version of any song in any genre of music, the tone of every instrument is just perfect so is the general mix. Dire Straits should have been prohibited to do studio works but instead record their stuff live xD.

I'm from Northumberland too and I spent many happy hours as a teenager in the Spanish City in Whitley Bay during the early 1970s. Shame it's just a facade now.
The love of my life introduced my to this song way back when it was released. We split up some years later, but she'll always be the love of my life, and so the song.

Given that it's a female friend I'm suprised there aren't any "Tunnel of love" jokes. Which is good because this is too great a song to make crass jokes about.

Breathtakingly tight, accurate hits accents and played emotionally by the band, and played almost to perfection. Hearing this at 16 years old, was what helped make me want to be a pro Vocalist and quality live musician. I’m now 54 and still mesmerized by it. Thx for posting

Haha, dad was Elvis and Johnny Cash, mum was Simon & Garfunkel and Neil Diamond. Sisters were crazy about Duran Duran and I mostly played this and Rainbow On Stage. Music wise I think 80's teenagers got the best deal ever. 😊
This version is fantastic, but I like more the one they used to play on the 1985/1986 tour. Check the "Dire Straits Tunnel of Love Sydney 1986" on you tube, the quality isn't the great but even like that, it's still awesome.
As a Geordie, it’s so evocative. Spanish City was a funfair on Whitley Bay seafront. Knopfler is from Cullercoats, just a mile up the coast. Also, Sting is from Wallsend, about 3 miles away.
First cd's I ever bought in nineteen eighty and something. Still astounds and amazes me today. This and Telegraph Rd are the best 25 minutes of live music you'll ever hear! And I've heard Freddie Mercury live! 😂
