    Great content, resourceful and straight to the point. One thing I didn’t quite felt like best practice was suggesting to routinely dump 25mb emails on your clients inboxes, I seriously think that’s a bad idea, causes a lot of inbox bulk and download times, not to mention having to crush your bitrate to fit the size limit. I usually just upload the videos as unlisted on TH-cam and then send the link. Otherwise great stuff keep it up !

    This is a really well edited video, I just came to see the aspect ratios on instagram but the editing here surprised me, definitely deserve more exposure. Please do a tutorial on edits, transitions etc
    Quick question, I have gaming footage of 1080p, And want to crop to so it can appear on instagram as 4:5 image. Is this anyhow possible by lower the framesize?

    • @JavierMercedes
      @JavierMercedes  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the kind words Classic! In order to fit a 1080p 16:9 game play into the 4:5 you would have to scale it up into the frame. But most of the time this results in losing the action on the sides of the frame. If you needed to hit the 4:5 ratio and wanted to keep the full 16:9 picture in frame you have to get creative. If it were me I would try and fill the negative space with text that captures the viewers attention on scroll. If you have dialogue, treat the upper negative space as the "meme" text and the bottom for subtitles. For example, If it were Final Fight Crossover and you were planning as Mike Haggar it could say at the top in IMPACT Font: "When you are the mayor of Metro City, but you still have to to fight Ryu for some reason" - then the footage of Ryu battling Hagger - and at the bottom if you are talking over the gameplay put you subtitles. Hope that helps!

    Robots are taking our jobs. Even chefs will lose out in the end.
    A highly watchable video, even though I haven't touched Instagram in about 3 years I was listening with rapt attention.

    • @JavierMercedes
      @JavierMercedes  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Colin! There was definitely some time spent getting this one right. Audience retention seems to be on my mind recently, I could spend so much time editing and flushing out a video but if people don't stick around it could be for not. I'd eat your food over a robot :)

    • @ColinsCookingChannel
      @ColinsCookingChannel 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad to hear it. But, if the robot makes better food, well I'll understand. :)
      Retention has been on my mind for about 3 years now. lol. I am getting about 50% on more recent videos, decidedly average.
      But, at least it seems to be pretty level for the people who make it through the first 3 seconds. Drop off at the start used to be horrendous for me. To begin with, it was going straight down to like 25% or something. Hopefully, I can get those numbers up and then I'll have above average videos.
      It's an odd one. Do you make longer videos for more watch time or make shorter ones to get better retention? Is 100% on a 1-minute video better or worse than 50% on a 2-minute video. Sometimes 60+% on a video is above average to high, but make a video 30 seconds longer or shorter and 60% is just average.
      I think the main thing is not to get too hung up on it. Especially when we still have small channels. If I come back to check a small detail on one of your videos, for example, then that's going to have a larger than normal statistical impact. If you were getting thousands and thousands of views, obviously it wouldn't. So really, there are too many variables in play to put a lot of weight on what analytics say.
      I think you're videos are awesome. I think that you are entertaining. And, I watch them end to end. So, there's that.
      (Though, interestingly since the sample size is so small you can see that an individual stopped watching at the moment I said, in the grilled cheese video, "I can't tell if this is absolutly disgusting, or....")

    Clean ass video and best explanation i've seen doing my research so far! Only thing I'm a little uncomfortable doing now is learning how to shoot video w/ IG posts in mind. Do I shoot my camera on a joby vertically? Do i keep it in landscape and crop it in Premiere later? How do i keep IG's crop in mind while filming for IG? Other than that this video explained the Aspect ratios so well and cleanly and kept in mind the different avenues of posting on ig (traditional posts, stories, ig tv etc.)

    Very helpful visual explanation of ratios. If using Square videos, what's the best aspect ratio for the camera setting? I'm using 4 x 3, but sometimes I have to crop too much to get it down to 1 x 1. If I shoot in 1 x 1 on my iphone, there is very little I could do to adjust the image for a better crop for export. If it’s a video game for example what would be the best aspect ratio to record in?

    • @JavierMercedes
      @JavierMercedes  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I would record in native 16x9 and keep it in 1920x1080p if that is what the game calls for, with that kind of material it is probably harder to make square without having the whole context of what you are playing on the screen.

    Hey Javier - If your original footage is 1920x1080 and you need a 4x5 export, wouldn't using 1080x1350 stretch the footage, and compromise quality? Why not use 864x1080 which maintains the height and aspect ratio? Also, would love to know what you think of Premiere's Auto Reframe.

      I’ve found that high quality files get punished more in Instagram compression. Try exporting a lower quality file and it may actually look better on IG. As of right now I wouldn’t recommend uploading a 4K file for sure. Mine always look grainy that way.

      @@JavierMercedes thank you brother, can you recommend a work around, should I film in Hd or 4k 30 fps or 60fps from now on? and is there a way to make the 4k files work for insta better, as in convert them down? really appreciate your help 🙏🏼

    Ok What is driving me crazy is when I post a video via reels there is either all the wY zoomed in or so wide it’s got the black bars. But if you do it as a post I can always make it fit nicely. Can you help me fix this man?

    thank you for sharing this video Javier, however I have a question, I am trying to post a video on instagram and I like the video "landscape" format (16,9) I hate the format portrait .... I did not have any problem on instagram before, but now How you do I upload a video on instagram without getting the conversion into what they call "reels"? since like a week I try to upload a video and hen I reach the last part where I can add the location, I see the image of the video in portrait.... This does not apply to picture, only videos. thank you !!!
