Hearing all these different "technical types" of fishing 🎣 tips, even at my old age 😆 I find interesting 🤔 .. back moons ago, all I was taught is the ONLY line for us regular fishing for food/enjoyments was to use Trilene fishing line. AWESOME REVIEW VIDEO @Andrew Hondo 💥⚡💯.

I use Zebco line for my leaders. Better than floracarbon. A lot cheaper. Good stuff.

That Onniflex is some pretty good line for dirt cheap, love using 6lb leaders of it on braided line. I love how stiff it is when tying Sabikis it keeps your top jig nice and separated from the mainline.

Be careful with buying it now. Got a 50lb spool the other day and it broke at 32lbs. Always test it before using

Ok… so I’ve never fished before and I just bought my first rig ever! Super excited and it’s budget spinning reel setup nothing fancy. Got a Shimano Nasci 2500 FC and I paired it with a $40 Shimano Sellus 7.1 med/fast rod. Because I’m not comfortable with my knots I want to start by top water fishing with monofilament. This way I don’t have to worry about leader knots and such. Should I just go Trilene 8/lbs test for bank fishing for bass… or should I go higher/lower test weight for mono?

      @andrewhondo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

i use 8lb test on my spinning reel for bass and 6lb test for bass you would only ever need more pound test if your fishing heavy structure and or weeds and you no the fish are huge then use a heavier line if your fishing with waited type of Texas rigs or swim jigs or Carolina rigs then use fluorocarbon hope this helps

@@andrewhondo Ok so topwater fishing with a Med/fast 2-pc spinning reel pole I’m good with 8/lb mono? Also, the lighter the line the further the cast… how does that work for rods? Would I cast further with a Med/Fast or a Med/Heavy if they were both rigged with say 8/lb test mono?

@@greg6162 if your using a fast tip rod for top water its flimsy mono stretches a medium heavy rod with a stiff tip and a graphite rod would be better for mono a fast tip rods better with braid or fluorocarbon because its stiff and has no stretch in theory the stiff the rod you got with mono the better your hook ups will be the flimsy and fast tip the rod you got with braid or floro the better hook sets will be the stiffer the rod you got using mono for top water fishing the better you will catch them this is just my opinion take it for what its worth

@@andrewhondo yeah once I get confident in knit tying I’ll run a braid to fluorocarbon/mono. I haven’t spooled up my Nasci 2500 yet. Brand new out of the box it’s making a slight friction noise when I turn the reel knob. It’s still really smooth but being my first reel ever I don’t know if it’s supposed to be silent or if that sound is norma. Only way to describe it is it sounds like a really nice fidget spinner. It’s quiet but there is definitely some type of friction and before I spool it I want to make sure that’s not a future problem in the making. I know Shimano has reel oil (basically the same mineral oil I use for my firearms called Ballistol… which is probably the best mineral oil you can get for metal/gears etc for those applications… and it’s made in Germany) and I’d be happy if a drip of oil took care of that friction noise. Again the reel is smooth and it spins several revolutions turning the handle and letting go. I might take off the reel and give her a spin…see if the noise persists. Again it’s a budget reel so I’m not expecting perfection for $100

What? Braid damages fishing reels? 🤣 Maybe _your_ fishing reels, but that's what happens when you fish braid costing 3x more than your fishing reel did! $10 reels from Wally's World aren't built for braid.
"It won't damage your reel as bad as ... fluorocarbon will." 😲 I've never heard of fluorocarbon line being any more damaging to reels than monofilament is!
"Number one is Stren High Impact. This is has to be the best monofilament on the planet. *It's made out of polymer*." 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Bro! ALL the fishing lines you displayed are made out of "polymer"! Monofilament, fluorocarbon, braid (whether Dacron, Dynema, Spectra, or something else), are ALL made from polymers. Look up the definition.
Baitcasters and conventional reels typically deal with stiff line better than spinning reels do. There are exceptions to everything though, and your results will vary based on many factors, including the diameter of your spool and how the braking on your baitcaster is setup.
I've yet to see a monofilament line that wasn't advertised as having "excellent abrasion resistance". Just ignore that hype.
Every fishing line is a blend of compromises. For example, a limp line casts better from a spinning reel than a stiffer line does, and has less "memory"; but limpness comes at the cost of abrasion resistance, shock resistance, and knot strength. Braid has very high strength for a given diameter, but its abrasion resistance is notoriously low compared to monofilament and fluorocarbon. And it's expensive.
In my experience with monofilament, there's not enough difference in knot-holding ability between the various brands to worry about. However, limp (flexible) monofilament generally suffers greater loss of strength when knotted than stiffer monofilament does. And did you know that the strongest knot for OmniFlex 6lb may not be the strongest knot for OmniFlex 12lb? Here's an anecdote to illustrate the point:
There's a knot called the Fish-N-Fool. I tested this knot on 8 different monofilament fishing lines, ranging from 3lb test all the way up to 30lb test. Ande Premium, Izorline XXX, Maxima Ultragreen. I compared the strength of this knot to the strengths of several others. The knot did very well. It was always the first or second strongest knot in any given line, except when tested on Izorline XXX 30lb monofilament, where it failed miserably. The Fish-N-Fool knot in this line tested as being weaker than a Palomar knot in 20lb Ande Premium. The San Diego Jam, Improved Clinch, Uni-Knot, and Palomar knots were all superior to the Fish-N-Fool knot in Izorline XXX 30lb! Why? I've no idea. The point is, make sure the knot you prefer actually works well in your selected line. Test it!
I prefer Maxima Ultragreen for skittish fish in clear water. It disappears very well, and it's strong. But it has some memory, and it's waaaaay too expensive.
I prefer Izorline XXX for general purpose use on spinning reels. It's cheap and very well behaved, but more susceptible to being damaged than the Maxima or Ande.
I prefer Ande Premium when fishing snags, brush, and salt water. It doesn't get damaged quite so badly as Izorline XXX when brought close to the breaking point, knotted, or abraded. It's slightly pricey for monofilament though, has memory, and isn't as well behaved on spinning reels as the other lines I've listed.
