In an ultra competive market with slim margins, expectations should alwys be set low and so you proved it to be. I really dislike the Amercian carriers. They just don't get how far the market has moved on. Domestically, I guess they don't have go the extra mile. Thanks for sharing, Paul. From the UK.
That's why I lower my expectations. American Airlines' first class is sooooooo inconsistent that you might as well flip a coin. Heads - first class will probably be fine. Tails - it'll be terrible. I never fly first class unless I'm bumped (i.e. seats oversold) and even then, I remain unimpressed. From experience, I would rate United ahead of American. I haven't flown Delta in a while. I probably need to fly Southwest once but I still don't get why their customers have orgasms over them. They're nothing special, just cheap and lenient with ticket refunds.
I can't tell you how many times I have walked or biked across the Queensboro Bridge, clearly visible at 11:07. It always looks far more calm and romantic from the air or even when shown on tv/movies.
I might have alerted the flight attendant about that - sometimes at an airport like LAX, a tech crew can come on and fix that in a minute flat. I agree it is unacceptable but I'd rather have the inconvenience of waiting a minute or two than deal with a floppy seat all flight.
Great and fair review! Though even as a Platinum Medallion, I still can't justify what DL charges for Delta One/First Class, so I'll stick with Main Cabin and get my (nearly) automatic Comfort+ upgrades (which are sometimes the Premium Select seats on widebodies).
Good review. LAX is my home airport. Having Star Gold i usually use the Star Alliance, Maple Leaf and United lounges. I do occasionally fly American and Delta. Every time I’ve been to the Delta lounge at LAX, it’s been crazy busy. Hopefully, when the renovation is complete Delta will provide a better LAX experience.
I don't fly LAX much, but I'll fly out of TBIT soon. Even with Amex Plat and Priority Pass there is currently not a lounge in sight. And the restaurants are meh. Any suggestions? I'm on VS premium economy, so I'm a bit stuck. Thx for any advice.
They're still flying the old 330 on this route from JFK to LAX and it's truly a subpar experience. I should know as I was on it last night in June 2023. The FA's are also pretty disengaged, too, which for a premium product is disappointing. Really enjoy all your videos!
The Delta lounge at LAX is very nice! Had the pleasure last Tuesday while I was returning from three weeks in California. Although the lounge was nice the Delta business class on the connecting flight to Atlanta left a heck of a lot to be disired to be honest. Not much legroom and seats that had been a bit well used. Not worth the extra I paid for business class. The flight back to Manchester from Atlanta on Virgin Atlantic upper class couldn't have been more different, great cabin crew, great seat and was worth the money! As was the KLM flight, business class, I arrived at LAX on. Not often you get a cabin crew singing happy birthday to you!!!!!
Paul, I really like all your videos but I also like your relaxed approach when things don't go as planned. I see so many self entitled people go nuts over the littlest things.
Another great video Paul. I love the fact that you point out both the good and the not so good things. Such as that wobbly seat, which could be an issue if the aircraft made jolting movements. First would ask if there was another similar seat available. If they were full up, I would report it to one or more of the flight attendants. Plus get their names. Maybe they are not aware of that seat being wobbly. But in the end your video speaks for itself.
Beautifully refurbished cabin. However one can’t help but notice that the food served in Delta One is basically on par with what one gets in premium economy on carriers like Singapore, Eva, or even AC here in North America. In a premium transcon service like this, one would expect a full 3 course meal experience plus a full wine tasting menu.
Flew on 767 for the first time, ever, last December on this route on Delta as well. We flew in the cattle-class. Even then, it was way more comfortable than in narrow-body jets. Too bad smaller jets are the ways of future domestic (and even transatlantic) flying.
Wasn't there to see anymore than you showed us but I'm not sure that seat should've been in operation. Of course it will move being a lie flat but the back not being stable/ attached properly in the upright position would make it a risk in the event of an emergency landing. Nice to see glassware and, some, of the US carriers doing away with the plastic. I agree that as a side sleeper myself I think i'd hate that seat on an overnight TATL. But upside, the hard product whilst imo probably faulty didn't have food from 3 months ago caked on it. Oh and pedantic note to end on. She clearly put that meal tray down back to front 🤣
Yeah, this has really put me off using Delta for an upcoming trip from London to San Diego. Shame Virgin doesn’t use another carrier. I’ll have to keep shipping around. Thanks for the very helpful insights!
Why? He took this flight before things truly opened up and you likely would be on an A350 or A330 flying from there. Idk maybe it’s just me but as long as I’m comfortable on the flight I’m fine
What exactly was so “off putting” delta is the top carrier from North America. Your crying bc there was a broken seat? That was a one-off thing. They would’ve made that seat in-op if they were aware. Cry about your first world probs somewhere else!
Another enjoyable vlog, Paul. Whilst the lounge was annoyingly busy, at least it means that the world is starting to return to normal and it is opening up again.
Paul, Huff Daland Dusters is a sly reference to Delta's birth. It was founded by a farmer who started the brand as a crop dusting company! I guess once flying become a bit more common, he figured he'd give the airline business a shot too...
PS: The only annoying thing about Delta is that they consider Atlanta, GA their home. Even if I fly from Dallas Ft. Worth which is closest to my house, the plane will stop in Atlanta before I have to switch to another plane for the quick hop down to south Florida. I find it annoying considering DFW is such a massive hub. Regarding football, were you able to watch games from the UK? If Manchester is playing, I'd definitely watch! 😁
Thanks Paul, always enjoy your honest reviews. I have to say from experience I don’t rate very highly any U.S. carrier. This didn’t look a bad product apart from the seat which would be annoying and the width of the bed is not really acceptable. Also the overcrowded lounge was ordinary though the food looked ok. Just my observations, others might not agree.
Paul, nice review. Refurbishment looks a lot better on the -400 but Delta's service does seems to be lacking as a whole. Did you see Sanspotters Atlanta to San Diego video? A snack box on a 5 hr flight in first class on a 767.
I always touch the door! I feel that if I don't then it's bad luck. Every flight I've been on I've touched the door and nothing crazy or bad happened. I don't want to not touch the door incase that's the only thing that's keeping me safe!! Stupid I know but it's now my traditional routine 😎 keep up the quality videos!!
I flew Delta One business from Atlanta to Venice and back, and first class from TPA to ATL and back in same trip first class. I never even got a pre takeoff drink on any of those lanes. Are they bringing that back? They were using Covid as the reason. I used to fly first class, business now when I was younger and always got a pre take off drink
Good video Paul! I can't wait for the new Delta Sky Club at LAX to open, it will most definitely compete with the American and United Airlines Lounges.
Looks like we're swapping countries, Paul! You're visiting America, and in just a few short months, I'heading to Manchester to spend the summer with my cousins! I'll be flying a Delta RJ900 from SYR to JFK, then switching over to Virgin Atlantic's Upper Class on an A330! I'm so very excited, as this will be my first time flying Virgin, and I've heard so many good things about it! Last time I was in Manchester I flew in on USAir on an A300. Worst. Jet. EVER! Never been on such an uncomfortable plane! I'm splashing out this time so I can enjoy my trip. I have missed England very much and can't wait to get there! Looks like I'll be flying back on KLM, so I'll get to fly my first Dreamliner! I'm as giddy as a little kid! I hope you are enjoying America. I'm going to go to Bath so I can go to Longleat and see koalas! I understand Lord Bath keeps a very nice park. I understand the Roman baths are definitely a must-see, as well, and of course I must try a famous Bath bun! Sounds yummy to me!
I am curious how you manage to obtain your tickets for such low costs...what is your secret? When I search online - always directly with a carrier and for very specific dates - I get prices about twice what you indicate in this video. Do you use your VPN? Is your schedule flexible? Becuase Flagship First is a first class and not a business class. It’s three times the price and not supposed to compete with Delta One. The competitor product is Flagship Business.
After 20 years with American Airlines, because I prefer Boeing jets, I am probably going to start flying with Delta from now on. This is highly encouraging. These rehabilitated 767s look amazing inside.
Love the video Paul! Looks like Delta One was a lot better than last time. Also one small thing I can’t help but mention, Boeing never made a stock standard version and of the 767-400… it’s the 767-400ER since there was no standard model! Just letting you know, the Avgeek in me can’t help but say that… Other than that great video and cheers! 🥂😎👍🇺🇸
Great vlog as always! I hate lounges just because of the reason you showed us. Mamma Mia. Not for me! Why did you not ask to change the seat? How strange cock up with the meal. What is the point of ordering on line if it does not show up on your table? My million dollar question is; how does UA compare to AA? Or AA to DL? The only first class I have flow domestic in the US are TW, and CO. The CO was from ORD to EWR in a blizzard with a 727 in 2000 I think.
Your reaction to the pre arrival snack - you’re being generous ! Once and for all on any American carrier expect the worst and be pleasantly surprised when they are below average . You’re only ever going to be impressed by carriers like Jet Blue or Virgin Atlantic where they MAY exceed your expectations .
That was the most polite thumbs down video. Well done! As for LAX, I don't have the same excitement. I'll fly out of TBIT soon, and even with Amex Plat and Priority Pass there is currently not a good lounge in sight. And the restaurants are meh. Any suggestions? Let us know what you think of the new Sky Club and the terminal connection when it's done. I hope to see it someday.
Interesting that the FA didn't offer the salmon as an option when taking Paul's order. Only when he protested that he had pre-ordered it and that she "couldn't find that" but now, suddenly, all lunch options were available. Low on the salmon, perhaps?
I am sorry, you are in Delta One and you have to use that full lounge? There are no other lounges? And I hate how much they use the #1 door instead of #2 door, so everyone just walks on through the cabin, making it harder for PDB :/
Hi Paul, another great vid, I love living vicariously through these vlogs! After some advice, I am taking my wife to New York as a surprise 10th wedding anniversary present. I have never been so would love some tips on things we have to see and so! We are their for 5 nights. The websites are just so overwhelming with ideas lol. Keep up the amazing work my friend. 👍
Snazy haircut Paul, and equally so video!
Thank you, a friend in Texas cut this one 😂 luckily I never change up my style 😉
I’ve been “Patting the Plane” for over 50 years. So glad to see someone else has the same superstition. Cheers Paul!
Since there's no wood on the plane, I just quietly knock on the window for good luck before takeoff!

Jet Blue Mint is the only way to go from LAX to JFK.
Oh goodie - can’t wait to sit down this evening and watch this one. Hopefully your delta experience was better than my last two🤞🏼
Nope, still pretty much the same...When's your next video coming ?
😂 well at least this one was clean!!
LAX is one of my favorite airports as well! I was just plane spotting at the In-n-out by the airport.. beautiful!!!
I, too, love LAX.
That approach into JFK was absolutely stunning!
I can't tell you how many times I have walked or biked across the Queensboro Bridge, clearly visible at 11:07. It always looks far more calm and romantic from the air or even when shown on tv/movies.
@@RoadCone411 Ive just stayed in a hotel in Long Island City with a view from my room at that brigde. Its awesome!
@@ageoflove1980 I work very close to the bridge…most days take the subway home but it can be a nice walk across it when it is warm enough.
I don‘t know about other people, but that loose seat is something I couldn‘t forget easily. That is unacceptable in any travel class in my opinion.
I might have alerted the flight attendant about that - sometimes at an airport like LAX, a tech crew can come on and fix that in a minute flat. I agree it is unacceptable but I'd rather have the inconvenience of waiting a minute or two than deal with a floppy seat all flight.

Flew this same aircraft from atlanta to las vegas last week in Delta One. No broken seat, my preordered meal was there, and clean.

I wonder if the terminal waiting area is less packed, lol, since everyone is in the lounge
I just recently flew this aircraft in Delta One too, not a bad experience, better than their A330's.

It's a US airline, its never going to match up to Asian airlines.
I like Pauls trip reports better than the others i have seen. Just an excellent job all the way around. I really dont watch the others any more.
Flew on 767 for the first time, ever, last December on this route on Delta as well. We flew in the cattle-class. Even then, it was way more comfortable than in narrow-body jets. Too bad smaller jets are the ways of future domestic (and even transatlantic) flying.
You can have good seats in narrowbody aircraft if you want them. American flies an A321 on this route and it's quite pleasant.
Wasn't there to see anymore than you showed us but I'm not sure that seat should've been in operation. Of course it will move being a lie flat but the back not being stable/ attached properly in the upright position would make it a risk in the event of an emergency landing.

Great review Paul. I am surprised that DL didn't have a better product. I'd be curious to know what was served in main cabin for dinner.
There is no meal in the Main cabin, only snacks and then food for purchase
Paul I always touch the outside of the plane as I board too. Kind of a good luck habit I developed.
Sure hope you try DL again from LAX check out the new lounge, it is amazing!
Thoroughly engaging.
As always 👏🏽
Yayyy traveling on the day my team (Arsenal) plays Sp*rs so i am very glad to see that the wifi is good enough for streaming!
To see the lounge that busy only means that travel is getting back to normal and that’s a good thing.
Another enjoyable vlog, Paul. Whilst the lounge was annoyingly busy, at least it means that the world is starting to return to normal and it is opening up again.
I don’t know if it’s just me, but landing at night always seems magical. Glad you didn’t have the “Delta Ice Cream” experience again…. 😂😂
Thanks for the trip report.👍
Actually there were 38 767-400's built, 16 for CO/UA, 21 for DL and 1 was a testbed that was then refitted and sold as a private aircraft.
Paul have you considered doing hotel reviews as well in the destinations you visit?

Only for Hawaii.
Excellent video, this experience, while not great, was so so much better than 5e last one!😸
Curious Paul why you only mention United Polaris and not American's Flagship First? American offers flagship service on the route.
Becuase Flagship First is a first class and not a business class. It’s three times the price and not supposed to compete with Delta One. The competitor product is Flagship Business.
But will United go Transcon with Polaris post-Covid? Not sure!
