  • @kyleincolor
    @kyleincolor 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +15

    I'm super excited to see this range come back! Fun fact: the main reason these are so easy to blend is due to the painting style used on Warmachine Warjacks. They have tons of smooth, rounded surfaces, which look great with wet blending. All of the old Privateer Press painting tutorials feature tons of wet blending and two brush blending.

    • @MrSJPowell

    My brother (who hasn't been in the hobby for over 2 decades) recently found a stash of old Citadel paints and gave them to me. Some of those paints I didn't even know GW made (colored metals for instance). Out of all the bottles only Tin Bitz had seperated a bit (which I would argue is not the fault of the bottle), the rest were pristine. Bottles with lids aren't the problem, bad lids are.

    • @nicholassinnett2958
      @nicholassinnett2958 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      True. I love my dropper bottles, but if GW dropped their current garbage pots and went back to the OG Citadel/P3/Foundry pot design, I wouldn't have a preference.
      The only issue with the P3-style pots is that the plastic the lids are made from sometimes turns brittle as it ages, which makes it easy to snap the hinge if it happens. That could just be an issue with pots that're exposed sunlight though, I'm not sure.

    • @charlescarpenter9098
      @charlescarpenter9098 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @nicholassinnett2958 is totally right about the brittle lids. I don't mind pots, but the lids of every color I used regularly all broke. No thumb tab to pop the lid, combined with dried paint around the seal makes it so tricky and annoying to open without the paint flying everywhere like a spring snake in a pringles tube.

    • @maqywhaq
      @maqywhaq 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Those bottle were very much like the very very old Citadel types that would seal amazingly well provided you kept the rims clear of buildup...(IIRC, some mentioned they used the same manufacturer that GW/Citadel used to use with their original lines). I really wouldn't mind if these paints were offered in dropper bottles though, just out of ease of deployment vs pots. Won't stop me from getting the new stuff(Ioved the old Citadel and the P3 paints, although the old P3 metallic were a bit hit and miss).

    11:00 you can do the same with a dropper bottle. Instead of squeezing it onto your palette - hold it horizontally and hold your brush to the nozzle. Squeeze lightly - and you can have as little paint as you like. 🎉

    • @obyiscushobbyandgaming
      @obyiscushobbyandgaming 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @coreymorse1347 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Or just squeeze the paint directly onto the palette instead of holding the bottle in the air and squeezing until there is enough for a drop to fall or it shoots out in a stream. Holy crup do youtubers like to waste paint filling their palette. Getting even less than enough for the tip of a brush shouldn't be a problem. It would be a bit pointless, but not a problem...

      Def doable but still more effort. I mean I get both sides. People also seem to associate paint pots with the new citadel version which is literally the worst attempt at containing paint known to man. The old GW paints were solid and worked fine in old pots similar to these

      Honestly I find it overwealming. I bought a crap tonne of AK but I find the new Vellejo ranges pretty similar to use but without caps that split/clog. And I don't even know wtf the difference is between game color and model color apart from the colours available. What the hell do I buy now? Vince Recommended Vellejo Ice yellow in an old vid and his recent one he recommends AK Ice yellow, right after I just ordered the new forumula vellejo one. Did I make the best choice!? I have no idea. Sometimes I think the smartest thing would be to sell 90% of my paints, buy a single set of Golden Soflat acrylics and mix all my colours, and it'll prob save me days staring at a shopping cart filled with paints I may or may not need that aren't properly represented in pictures.

    I really don't need another paint range, but when army painting the ability to wet blend on the model means cloaks, spacemarine armour, gostly weird bits, metal and horses all paint waaaaay quicker.
    So whilst I likely won't be buying them all, for most big projects I'll pick out two or three purely to wet blend quickly and simply without falling back on oil paints. That way it will absolutely speed up my army painting

    • @flyingtam
      @flyingtam 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      P3 was (is?) ridiculously good at wet blending, and was my go-to paint for it. I think buying a couple pots of it and giving it a try may up your blending game! Sometimes, it really is the paint and not the painter.

    War Machine was the first miniatures game I ever really encountered 'in the wild.' A buddy of mine needed to run to his house before a movie and he had a little card table set up in his kitchen with a bunch of models and paints scattered across it, and we had to relocate everything because we were taking the table to a party. It was kind of a bizarre moment, because we were friends through comics and video games, but he had never mentioned anything about miniature gaming in any context before that point, and I knew next to nothing about it other than being vaguely aware that people painted toy soldiers. By the time I got into the hobby myself, the good P3 colors were hard to come by, so this kickstarter has my name on it.

      I've noticed some P3 paints have a subtle undertone of a complementary colour, like CBB (which is a muddy dark green, but with a hint of red). I love when paints do that, since it makes colours really interesting, but P3's the only brand that seems to experiment like that.

    I just realized that I had not subscribed to you, despite following all your videos nearly religiously and for that I am sorry. I'm so excited every time I see one of your videos because I feel like just watching them gives me more information and tips that help me become better at this hobby. Getting my hands to actually follow those tips is a different matter....

    I still have Citadel paint pots of the same design, bought by me, from my local store, decades ago. I seriously have to consider these P3's to carry on the hobby for a couple of decades, at least.

    Love a good in-depth review. I haven't painted in years and trying to get back into it has felt overwhelming with all the choices. Excellent video!

    I had recently got into miniature painting and know I will be backing this on kickstarter and wanted to stream my painting journey. Starting with Warhammer 40k.

    Back when I got into the minis hobby, I found P3 to be a lot like the Citadel range at the time in terms of how the paints felt. The range was clearly also a system like Citadel, but a little more friendly with other paints.

    I loved many of the colors of the old P3 paint line. Still have some. Still use some. But I'm backing this kickstarter. Excited to see them back on the market!

    I stopped painting for about a decade and I'm just now getting back into it. When I started rebuilding my painting supplies I was super bummed that P3 wasn't around anymore because it was one of my favorites too. Glad to hear they're coming back.

    As I've only been in the miniature painting realm for a few years, I had heard of this range but never had the chance to try it or see it for sale. I am happy to have watched some solid view points on it and would be excited to see this line for sale in the future so I hope it's kick starter does very well! Thanks for the content!

    Short story time. I just learned how great some of the p3 paints are thanks to one of my art teachers. He has painted minis for a long time and was a name in the industry for Privateer and a couple of the grandfather companies. Sadly, though, his hands are failing him, and he is having to hang up the paintbrush. He is still gonna teach and kept a good bit of supplies for his classes, but he gave me a bunch of brand new p3 paints. I was so grateful and sad at the same time. See, earlier this summer, I just started my commission career, and he also gave me my debut commission. I try to paint every day because of him, and that's really hard for me to do (mental nonsense yada yada)

    Always enjoy your vids, they are detailed enough to be informative but with a great hint of comedy and honesty. TBH I got into the hobby through lore vids and was scared to get into the painting side, but started watching your vids and you helped me not be so afraid to commit paint to plastic on my ‘nids and salamanders. Keen to order some P3 for myself! All the love man and keep on truckin’

    I'm loving the return of p3. It's been my dominant paint for years, but I gotta come out in support of the dropper bottles. I definitely had old citadel paints circa 2005 or so turn to solid unrecoverable blocks in pots. I found the paint gets in the hinge, you don't notice and a week goes by when you realize oh crap it wasn't sealed right. I don't have that problem with a top that I screw on.

    Couple of years ago I bought a full range of Scalecolor paints. Though I love it's matte finish, your vid about cleaning your paints showed me that the difficulty to work with wasn't just on me. Since, I've been looking for a new set. This one just might be it! AND paired with the chance to fit a new sick graphics card!? Boy what a day!
