    This is one of the most musical demos I’ve seen of any pedal in a long time. The way you played the pedal brought it back alive as a new composition.

    Great demo… And a lovely loop! The question no one ever answers: how do you get out of the loop mode in back to the “normal “echo function of the pedal?
    The only way I can do it is to unplug the unit and start again
    Any suggestions? Thanks!

      @@Pedalnerds Frankly, I'm not a big fan. As background: I use the Source Audio Nemesis (and Ventris) and I love the Neuro desktop app, which I use extensively. My board is plugged into my pc and when I record, I'm dialing in the sounds from the Neuro. My go-to engines on the Nemesis are the Tape and Tape Noise.
      OK, so first, the Volante, as is always the case with Strymon, sounds great. No worries there. All three engines are beautiful. And the controls are fine, good even, (but still no desktop app interface for deeper editing and saving pre-sets). But as far as the sounds from the Volante, I believe I can get all those sounds, or close, from the Nemesis Tape and Tape Noise engines. With the Neuro app, I can dial in a variety of sound parameters to match (exceed) those of the Volante: (3 modulation parameters, tape speed, lo-cut/hi-cut, diffusion, distortion, tremolo, 3 wow/flutter knobs, sweep filters, pan). I did an A/B test comparing the Nemesis and the Volante, and, well, to my ears, they are a little different, but I can get almost all the sounds on the Nemesis. And the Nemesis has sounds the Volante doesn't. I would call it a draw.
      What I really wanted in the Volante was an improvement of the SOS over the El Capistan. And yes, it is an improvement. 64 seconds now instead of just 20. And you can adjust the delay while looping. And that's a lot of improvement. But frankly, most (except the degradation) of what the Volante offers in SOS I can do with my looper running through the Nemesis. And I've watched almost all the demos of the SOS on TH-cam, and most of what everyone is showing is, too me, not musical. Reversing, and stepping down to half speed, and adding a whole lot of decay, and switching the delay engines while looping is all a wonderful technical achievement, but it doesn't inspire me in the kind of music I'm using it for (ambient guitar soundscapes).
      Sorry to be negative here, and I'm a big fan of the Strymon sound, but this pedal just doesn't knock me out. If I didn't have the Nemesis (and use it all the time), I'd love the Volante. If I want 4 or 5 delays on my board, the Volante would be one of them. I'm going to keep working with it, but for now, I'm probably going to send it back.

    Cool demo as always Nathan!! Perfect as a looper too, I've been waiting for this for a long time !! If I'm not mistaken, the speed selector can be controlled by an external footswitch right?

    • @hoover728

      Put it into infinite mode (holding down left footswitch) and you can play over the loop without adding to it.

      Gretsch Power Jet > Emerson Custom Pomeroy OD > Volante > Stereo into the Vox AC15 and Princeton Reverb and then mic’d and running into a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 into a PC

      Glad you liked the loop!

  • @marcusstrymon693
    @marcusstrymon693 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nathan do you think its a dealbreaker that the Volante sums into mono for loops? I saw that recently and it shocked me. Why tfq? I know creating true stereo pedals is more expensive than summing the input for the effect line production BUT a pedal that markets itself as stereo cannot suddenly sum to mono in loop mode that is borderline customer missleading

    • @Pedalnerds
      @Pedalnerds  ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess it just depends on your use case. As far as I know, the dry signal is kept true stereo, and the wet signal is summed to mono and then processed into a stereo signal. Since the looper is essentially a wet signal playing back it is summed to mono. If you need a looper that keeps the signals completely separate/stereo all the way through, then this may not be worth it. If you don't need that this would be worth it.

    • @marcusstrymon693
      @marcusstrymon693 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Pedalnerds Yep, here this is the one case where the otherwise unimportant flaw of stereo summing falls into part.... As far as I am aware, the Timeline doesn’t donit at least I never noticed it and my ears are pretty sensitive for stereo - with the volante I immediately noticed something being off
      I just don’t get it they go so indepth on the SOS but don’t find away around it to get it stereo... Why strymon why

  • @tochiromifune419
    @tochiromifune419 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Really nice! But how do you erase a loop if you've made a mistake? Also, do I understand well that the controls are active on the recorded loop only if you're in infinite mode?

    • @hoover728
      @hoover728 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Old comment but for anyone curious of the answers: you can only erase the entire loop, not individual layers, and that is done by pressing the right footswitch. The effects are only active when the loop is *not* in infinite mode, which locks the loop and prevents it from degrading.

    • @hoover728
      @hoover728 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Up to 64 seconds at the slowest speed. You can use it like a regular looper but the loops will degrade to a degree unless you set them in very specific ways.
