  • For a Strymon with no screen, the Volante sure is complex!
    I only got this pedal a few days ago, but it's so wonderful and so deep, I just HAD to make a video manual on it.
    Download the full, official, PDF manual here:

      @@PedalExperiments I didn't know it would post a comment with that or I would have elaborated. I very much appreciate the detail you put into the video. It's an incredible pedal, but not the easiest to learn with the pretty sparse manual, so this is a tremendous resource. Thank you very much for creating something so useful!

      Many other demoers use this format, and I believe it's the most efficient and informative way to explain a pedal's features and controls, without getting in the way of the sounds.

    You finally got hold of one ! It is my favorite strymon pedal to date. Though the nightsky is a close 2nd.

      The great thing is, it's really simple to use if you just want to dial in a basic sound and start playing, but it also let's you dive into the more minute details and expanded parameters + functions...if you want to!
      Thanks for watching. 👍
      I'll compare this with my Echo Park at some point, just to see how it compares to something at the other end of the scale, price-wise.
      (I suspect it'll be a surprisingly close contest!)

    I'm new to tape delays, from the perspective of a tape machine, and I'm still unsure how this works. I guess I'm just too used to dialing things in on a rack unit...
    I think in terms note subdivisions... One thing I find frustrating with the the Timeline is that the biggest subdivision is 1/4 note, but I need 1/2 note and 1/1 note delays. With the timeline, if I tap tempo, I have to tap at 1/2 speed or 1/4 speed to get what I want, which is not accurate enough for what I do.
    Can this thing tap and give you 1/2 note and 1/1 note delays?
    The rest of the controls seem simple enough... But I suppose the other thing is the absence of a BPM screen. With the timeline I can at least halve the BPM with a knob when I know what it is, but even that's a pain.
    Meanwhile, the BOSS DD500 can easily do what I need in terms of subdivisions and readout, but sounds inferior to the Strymon units!

    • @PedalExperiments
      @PedalExperiments  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Everyone has different criteria that are essential for what they're looking for in a pedal. Just because most tape delays lack the ability to tap tempo in the subdivision you want, doesn't mean they're "inferior".
      I think if the DD-500 can do what you want, then you should definitely go with that pedal. 👍🏻

    • @XChristianNoirX
      @XChristianNoirX ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PedalExperiments it can do what I need, it just doesn't sound as good!
      A lot of the BOSS stuff can do any sig you want. The new SDE-3000EVH can too, but it's a different beast... I also haven't heard any comparisons to other stuff as most are just trying to emulate the EVH thing understandably.
      Now the one Boss pedal that I don't think can do it is sadly their new, flagship analog delay. They did make the pedal look retro and are probably just trying to go with the overall retro experience rather than add a bunch of options and a screen.
      I never planned on using the longer delays, but one day, I had a ping pong delay but was only using the left channel of the device... I started writing tubes with it always on and now need the feature. It's possible with the Strymon stuff, just not easy. At least the Time-line has a screen.

    Calling this a manual is overrating it ever so slightly.

    • @PedalExperiments
      @PedalExperiments  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Why is that?

    • @ernielamprell4532
      @ernielamprell4532 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PedalExperiments Because showing pictures and videos, without a spoken word is poor, and limited in the information that may be imparted.

    • @PedalExperiments
      @PedalExperiments  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I really don't see how. And it certainly isn't the case with me, personally. If I was talking to camera and trying to explain how to navigate this pedal, I would be tripping over my words, um-ing and ahh-ing, and probably forgetting a bunch of important info. As a result, the video would be twice as long, less informative, and you wouldn't even get to hear the effect being used.
      This way, I can be efficient with how I explain things, and people can pause the video to read certain sections a few times if they need to. Not to mention the fact that you can hear how the different parameters affect the sound in real time, which must people really appreciate.
      Sorry my demo style isn't for you, but most people prefer it, so I have no plans to change anytime soon. I'm sure there are other guys out there doing things in a way that resonates with you more. 👍
