I find it so UNFAIR too... RDR2 is the best videogame ever for me. GOW should've been just a well deserved finalist, but under no circumstances better over RDR2. It was a lame decision based on we don't know what standards. Both best games of 2018, but RDR2 one big step ahead.

Me too, I never really understood when Dutch said “destroy everything in your path.” I did understand when he said Cornwall robs and steals part. But after watching this video it makes a lot more sense now.

While I don't think the brush fire is related to Limpany, I would like to point out that there doesn't need to be a trail of burnt land that connects them for one to have caused the other. Embers from forest fires can travel great distances on the wind, and can help spread fires at a rapid rate. The brush fire and the Limpany fire could have had embers that reached if the wind was right. A southerly wind coming off the sea may have done the job. But, I don't think this was the case here.
This is the first channel I've ever seen properly explain this. Other "mystery" channels only tell you the obvious, walk around for 12 minutes while talking about something that everyone has seen, read a not so secret letter to you and bam, end of video. I literally never noticed the Cornwall barrels after two years of playing this game. You're good at these bro, keep em coming.

I'm imagining how this mission might go. It would be back to back with the first mission of Chapter 2, when Arthur wakes up at Horseshoe and speaks with Hosea. Eventually they notice smoke rising from Limpany, and they, along with a few others, run down to investigate and they help any survivors they can and drive off any of Cornwall's men if they're still around. They try to stop the fire, but at that point it's too far gone, and they just walk away from it, similar to the way they left Adler Ranch and Braithewait Manor. Back at camp, they discuss the phenomenon. Someone mentions that they saw Cornwall Kerosene and Tar barrels lying around. They realize what this must mean, that Cornwall is truly not a man to be trifled with, but Dutch laughs this off and says something like "There has been men like him for many years, and there will always be men like him. He's nothing new." Arthur concedes this point, but he can't help but harbor a small worm of doubt...

I really do think the story is complete, I don’t want too much of Red Dead Redemption. Too much of a good thing is a bad thing, I don’t want the franchise to be ruined although I completely trust Rockstar. Rockstar has never let me down.

If Cornwall did burn down the town, it must’ve happened either sometime during or before 1898. I went to check it out in Red Dead Online, and sure enough, it was already ashes.
Probably since, as he explains in the video, that Rockstar deleted the mission (or whatever else was to happen in the story with Limpany,) and left the barrels as an explanation as to what happened. They probably didn’t want to do any more with Limpany, even in the Online.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Online isn't set in 1898, it is set in 1899 but 6 months before the story takes place. For some reason a lot of people get this wrong. You can tell this because (Spoilers) when you meet Sean and Sean talks about the Dutch Van Der Linde Gang on how he's lost them temporarily. I believe what happen was Sean went to go kill another individual and had to lay low for awhile, that's why Sean refers to losing the Dutch Van Der Linde Gang temporarily and I'm guessing Red Dead Online takes place in 1899 before the BlackWater Heist is because you can actually find Sean and do a mission for Sean and Sean is placed not too far from BlackWater, near New Austin, so it raises the question why would Sean be very close to a place that he robbed? It doesn't make sense that's why I suggest it's before.

I have a feeling rockstar just made an oversight and decided to not change multiplayer so they did not need to put a bunch of work into modeling an entire town for mp
To me the mystery has always been more about why Limpany was completely abandoned, after the fire. It's very rare that an entire town just up and dies, most people re-build after a fire. Ljmpany seems like a nice spot on the river, just far enough away from Valentine to warrant its own small economy. Also, the seemingly prime camp spot of Horseshoe Overlook would be less-ideal if positioned right next door to a functional town. I just can't see a town being completely abandoned after a fire, drives me nuts thinking about it lol

I remember Madam Nazar saying a bit of dialogue while hanging around her caravan that suggests that the Limpany fire was preventable and done by accident.

There were hacked open oil barrels, it is clear it was purposeful.
I always found Limpany to be a weird area, some random town that was absolutely SCORTCHED and there was nothing giving some sort of idea of what happened there.
It screamed deleted content.
I have to admit, although I can't remember where I heard it from? That Limpany was burnt because it was realised that the two men who had been brought in and put in the cells had the plague and the rest of the town was burnt to try and cleanse the area. that is why they are the only two bodies. I do like your explanation though.

if i remember correctly, one of the voice actors (i believe it was arthur’s) said that there was around 8 hours of cut footage from the game including missions. it makes me sad thinking about it :(

It's the reality of game development. Lots of things can be cut leading up to release, especially if the development cycle lasts 8 years.

Kyler Michel there was a lot more missions. The biggest think I hear they cut was the story with Mary. It was supposed to be much longer of a side story. Also they cut many Easter eggs and some of the ones we have were to be much larger and more complex.

Here's the thing though, I just went to Limpany cause I passed it by and thought there'd be some loot. After going through most of the buildings, I saw a corpse mark in the map behind the general store. Upon inspection it was the corpse of a man decomposing, but he was surrounded by dead vultures. My first thought is poison, hence the dead vultures, but there has to be something that connects him to the rest of the town. Unfortunately there was nothing worth noting when I looted him, but I did lose honor.
Im glad you mentioned the clip from the trailer where Arthur is watching Limpany burn. When i saw that I was wondering if Limpany was supposed to be there and the fire was cut content on how it stsrted or Arthur catches the town right as its on fire or something. I rewatched the trailers last night and noticed alot of cut scenes that arent in the game that are in the trailers. For example, the Limpany fire as you showed, and Arthur, Dutch, Charles, Javier and Micah riding in New Austin.
From the times I’ve explored Limpany I always assumed that the gold found in the Sheriff’s office had something to do with the reason why the settlement was burnt. But I never took any notice of the Leviticus Cornwall kerosene barrels before, until they were pointed out in the video. Now the theory of it being Cornwall’s doing makes sense, although I still think the gold and/or the Le Tresor Des Morts map found in the jailhouse might also have a part to play (although I know this extra map quest is only exclusive to the pre-ordered Special and Ultimate Editions of the game though).
If the footage from the trailer was meant to be a mission, then I think I know why Rockstar removed it. It most likely had something to do with Red Dead Online. As far as I know Red Dead Online take place 1898, one year before the events of Arthur Morgan. Since this is the case, it wouldn’t make sense for Limpany to be in ruins during Red Dead Online.
I always believed that red dead online was happening right after the Blackwater massacre, that explains why Sean was in West Elizabeth and that the rest of the gang were not there, because they were fleeing in the mountains

I think though that the story was exaggerated over time and I think the couple actually got attacked by the Murfrees and the girl ran off with her boyfriends head and then the town thought she killed him so they lynched her or burnt her I forgot

Thanks Strange Man. I see some strange things at Limpany. I've never know if it was a glitch or not. But i seen a lot of birds dying out there near the third corpse. The birds was falling from the sky or collide with the houses. Very strange but i've never see that again.

As some have already mentioned, a brush fire doesn't need to be connected when a wind picks up embers and carried them off to start new fires - it was a major problem during the terrible bushfires across Australia end 2019 into 2020.
I bought this game a month after its release. After Arthur died, I didn’t wanna play anymore and I sold the game.. bought the game again recently this week and man do I regret not finishing it. This has got to be one of the best and impressive games I’ve ever played in my life. Every time I play it, it literally feels like I’m in a real world in the cowboy era man, shits nuts.

I seriously can't get enough of this game. I've played through it now, thirteen times, and am STILL playing it. I'll admit, I wish they'd do story DLC. But I know that's likely not gonna happen. Sucks too, cause this game's open world is HUGE. So huge, they could so numerous DLC's, in numerous different areas of the world. One could be in the snowy mountains of the Grizzlies, and another could be in the sunny Desert of New Austin, and so forth.
I'm just going thru my second time. The thing about the game is that it ISN'T really an open world game. There are many things to see do and find, but the game is on rails. No matter what you do, the ending is the same. The spirit animal may change, but the outcome is the same. Arthur lives in a Determinist world.

You should do a video on the ruined town of Pleasance! All of the gravestones in that area indicate that everyone died from being violently murdered all in the same year.
i love how Strange Man edits those epic soundtracks to his videos to give it an extra mysterious or epic ambience. It's easy to watch everything he posted in one go, because you get deeper into the mystery he want to show, and not get distracted, Respect to this, it's pure gaming Journalism
ive always wanted for the town to be intact so we could explore and interact with the little town, it looks like a great location and the shape of the saloon is really cool
Considering Arthur witness the fire as it rages in the trailer, this leads me to believe Limpany is in fact part of something that was cut from the game.
Kerosene is highly flammable, from what we know from the little facts we have in-game it could simply have been an accident. But my theory is that Limpany was an important hub for Cornwall, judging by the amount of kerosene barrels found in town, and the Gang burned the kerosene and the town with it, perhaps in retaliation after being ambushed in Valentine.
Yes, but they're not the kind to kill or burn innocent people. Mostly for trigger Cornwall. And Cornwall already proved he kills people by fire with the oil derrick incident.
This town had so much potential cause it was in a great location and had all the necessities similar to valentine.
It's a decent theory.
What I think we ALL should do is make a list of items like this that we "think" were removed from the game so they remain un-solvable and petition Rockstar to please answer the questions we have on this list of say 10 or 20 mysteries in game that seem like removed or un-finished content.
Just tell us yes or no, can these be found/solved or not?
Were these take out, removed or left unfinished so now they are interesting but not solvable or can we actually find the answers and have the game reward us or acknowledge the find for any of these mysteries?
They can either explain that certain things in game were removed due to time or budget and their remain remnants of those missions or activities that will go un-answered, so they can put those theories to rest.
Like the Princess, the Athletic club murder, Gavin, The time traveler, Limpany, the sun dial, the frozen map, is there a third meteorite? and so many others if we know that these things were left in game but are no longer solvable or to be part of the game in any way that would help remove a lot of the frustrating mysteries that exist.
It would be nice to have confirmation on some of these things, OR to have them tell us, Yes that is an active mystery that can be solved, or can not be solved.
I just want to know from Rockstar one way or the other on some of these things so we can either double our efforts or abandon attempts to figure them out.
If they woudl just confirm our list I think it would go a long way in the community to help with some of these and whether or not some of them have any answers in game or not.
It would also be very interesting to hear the stories about the ones that had to be abandoned or left out for time or budget to hear what they were supposed to be like and whether there is ever going to be any attempt to add these things into the game somehow?

I always thought that the reason it was abandon was the same as Tumbleweed. The railroad wasn't as close as Valentine, for instance, and since there was a fire accident that burned down most of the city, there was no reason to rebuild it.

I think there is something big that you missed that confirms your theory: close by Limpany, near the river bank, is a wooden aqueduct. It looks like the kind used by prospectors to look for gold in water. There's a gold bar in the area as well, to confirm that they had some success.
There being only one apparatus for such a small town means the discovery for gold was still so fresh that Cornwall burned the town alive to keep the area from being over run with prospectors, which would have hurt his business interests.
Remember, the Forty Niners were a boom that built California, but they also acted like a swarm of locusts

my theory is after colter the first town we are introduced to would not be valentine and instead it would be limpany considering it is so close to horseshoe overlook and after a few missions there cornwall would burn it down then we would move on to valentine

1:53 - Either I'm gravely mistaken or the demise of Limpany is fairly recent and I say this because the 2 prisoners in the jailhouse have not fully decomposed so Limpany must have burned down about 1 to 7 years maximum before the time in the game which is 1899 especially because they are in a small building that has ventilation as we can see over the door and the door itself so Limpany must've burned down fairly recently like in 1897.
I always thought it was the Wapiti tribe in retaliation for their people being slaughtered by the settlers but the Cornwall theory makes a lot of sense as Dutch said it himself that Cornwall destroys everything in his path (Killing the independent driller, possibly burning Limpany and getting the Army to force the natives off of the reservation)
This game has so much lore, it's insane.
I remember coming across Limpany early on in my first playthrough. Made me so sad to see it destroyed, I wish we could have visited it before it burnt down. Never noticed Cornwall was behind it, though. Evil bastard!

Right when you start the game, you can go in the Sheriff's office in Limpany and there is a gold bar there for you - a quick and easy $500 (perhaps a bribe to the Sheriff from Cornwall to look the other way?). And where that guy was burnt in the non-connecting forest...there's a lockbox there with some goodies under the wagon next to the dead corpse.
Anyone else had a corpse randomly spawn behind the general store here? I've seen it appear a few times and always wondered if it has any relevance to the fire, or of it was just an unfortunate traveller murdered by robbers or O'Driscolls and dumped there..
If it was a deleted mission, it would be really cool to see that mission or at least hear how it played out. It would make sense to delete it though. A bit too on the nose with Cornwall's evil.
That being said, its proximity to Horseshoe Overlook makes me doubt that it was ever meant to have activity there. Wouldn't make much sense for the gang to hide out so close to a town like that.

Another great video. I am not able to play nowadays but it is satisfying as playing to watch a video from you.
The first thing I realised when I started playing RDR2 was the music, which had a really slow tempo. At first I thought it was going to get really boring in short time. I thought Spagetti Western fast tempo music would’ve been better for a couple of hours. But as the game progressed I realised that I do not feel rush anymore, and I needed to explore everything. Every little detail. It is world all in itself. It is a masterpiece. You also make your videos worth to it. Like the music you choose to your videos too.
Hard to imagine Cornwall would be stupid enough to leave his own barrels at the site of destruction.

So, whenever I play this game, after robbing the pharmacy in Valentine, I always escape the authorities by riding into Limpany. And I always find a set of pistols and a block or two of gold. It's possible Limpany found gold at some point, and was completely uninterested in selling what they found to Cornwall and because of that, Cornwall destroyed the town so that he could have full access to the gold in the area.

It really seems this town was supposed to be something like the lumber extraction near Strawberry... Like, you pass through it, see the town. Next time you go through it and you witness some stress with Cornwall men and them, in the third time you just see the smoke tower in the air, go investigate and see the whole thing burning.
I love these scenario changin they do in the game! The same happens with the father building a house.

As a real wildland firefighter I can tell you that your assumption that the two fires are not connected because there is no burned area connecting them is incorrect. During a wildfire embers can be carried over half a mile by the wind and start other fires. That’s exactly how wildfires jump fire containment lines. That’s exactly what has happened when you hear on the news about a wildfire and you hear them say that it jumped the lines. The only way it can do that is because of the wind carrying embers across the line and setting fires on the other side of it. Its extremely common. It’s a misconception of the untrained general public that wildfires are one big massive burned area. In reality because of all the spot fires created from embers suspended in the air landing other places most wildfires look like the spots on a milk cow from the air. Large misshaped burned areas not all connected or uniform in any way.
this is the first channel I follow that has no narration, I usually like the narration because it allows me to be doing other things while "watching" the video. but not for Strange Man, no! he deserves dedicated attention, congratulations on the good work!
A more likely scenario: the devs in charge of the trailer thought “it would look cool if we had Arthur looking into a scenic background with a destroyed town burning around him”

6:40 Well, that’s a great theory, but I think Limpany was set on fire before the events of Rdr2, in 1899. This is because of the fact that in Red Dead Online, Limpany is already destroyed. To conclude, I firmly believe that Arthur wasn’t present when this event happened. On the other hand, Arthur might have just visited the town to see in curiosity what happened

I like to imagine this was a town rockstar intended to do something with, but they ran out of time, so instead of finishing it they decided to "remove it" by burning it down, and it's inhabitants just happened to be burned with it.

When u mentioned the trailer I decided to watch it and there's a scene where Arthur tackled a man in blackwater
I think it´s already assumed that Arthur was originally suppose to be able to get to New Austin and Blackwater during the game, but for whatever reason, rockstar decided to cut that out and make it only available in Epiloge.
Funny that is in the trailer though.

Its so thrown around throughout the game though. I mean you hear that people say Valentine is cursed, then you hear them say Rhodes has a dark secret reminiscent of a curse, then you hear Emerald Ranch is cursed, then you hear Butcher Creek is cursed. So I think everyone during that time period explained unexplainable incidents on a curse so that they didnt have to think about whats really going on. Saying there's a curse just makes people stop asking questions and just accept everything bad happening as the fault of the curse. Literally every town I go into I hear "I tell ya this place is cursed!"

I have slightly different theory, when the gang is leaving colter Hosea sees and mentions the native Americans in the area, i think the town was doing business with Cornwall and the natives burnt the town with the barrels that belonged to Cornwall, the natives did it to get rid of a big buyer of Cornwall so they could control more of their old land

Just terrific insight every time I look at one of these. I suspected a lightning strike that lit the barrels, but this is far more plausible.
To understand why Cornwall would have a grievance against Limpany, we should investigate what is it thst Limpany has to offer? How much gold could have been flowing through that river? Is Limpany on top of an oil reserve?
Considering how many of these barrels are around town, it would imply whoever did this had plenty of time to set up. Perhaps the entire town was held hostage? Ransom? Blackmail?
