it sound like fun if i had a dad i woude ask him to do the same :) but mt dad left to get milk and nerver came back know im with my llile bro and my mom its fun
this is honestly amazing. it's clear you care a lot about your kids and the amount of time you probably spent thinking of and setting all these up so your kids are entertained while youre busy is both impressive and admirable
You should make an automation that will let your kids leave a message. This would show up as a mail icon on your stream deck that you could press and listen to the messages when you had free time. This would also help if your kids forget what they want to tell you.
I was thinking a video doorbell. You can get apartment kits for many that allow them to be installed temporarily, then program the button. A press just sends a flag to the streamdeck, a press and hold begins recording. If they press the button and it sends the flag, then you know they need attention. Press and hold let's them "share secrets" or tell you something they think you need to know.
These automations are absurd and ridiculous and I loved every last one of them!! And they kept getting progressively more interesting too!!! This is such a creative use of tech where you home is able to interact with your kids in a meaningful way. Im curious though , how does your wife feel about it? Mines would think it’s ridiculous but then use it consistently 😂
I appreciate it! She likes them because when our 4 year old is busy finding the pink light or playing in "the jungle" and not bugging my wife every two seconds... she is happy.
The only flaw in this logic is that it would backfire. If you give them treats for knocking on your door. They will be knocking on your door all day, just so they can play the games and get the treats lol
This is the best thing I've seen yet with automations! Your creativity, imagination and ability to work around the technology to make the magic happen is phenomenal. Everyone's too busy trying to make life better, you're out here making life fun
I wasn't expecting the robot vacuum thing! That's pretty cool!!! What does it do if it finds her that way? Is there a mint recognition for that and then game over?
I just wanted to say, I don’t know how I found your channel but you’re just such a wholesome guy and I love that you include your family in your videos. It makes everything feel a lot more at home. Great content, please keep them coming as I not only find your videos helpful but very entertaining as well.
"DAD HELP I BROKE MY ARM OUTSIDE AND CANT FIND MOMMY" Alexa: want to play a game? " NO I NEED HELP" Alexa: turn off all the lights before the timer runs out to acheive help
These automations are amazing, and with each one you managed to blow my expectations away. It's crazy to see people create such complex and amazing automations, when I wouldn't have thought half of this was even possible. Keep it up.
kid: *knocks* alexa: Yo go to the kitchen for candy kid: *chokes on candy* also kid: *bangs on door* alexa: lets play the light game kid: *dies* alexa: lets play the heaven or hell betting game
So here’s how it works: the door is covered in mousetraps and buttons that release a grenade hung by a strung from the ceiling, and when they touch the door, it’ll be their last time
Youre basically a full time software engineer at this point! Amazing automations!. Youre basically a full time software engineer at this point! Amazing automations!.
Another great video demonstrating the possibilities of what you can do with the tech in our homes. As my kids our grown, will pass down some of these to them for their children. Very entertaining
Now you’ve trialed it on the kids can we see a video of how to get it to work on the wife for some peace time. Tbh I think the automations are genius and well thought out.
Hi Reid, I watch your videos regularly because of the nuanced content and the high quality. But this is just in a league of its own! Honestly floored by your ingenuity! All the best from Germany.
"The toilet has been flooding for five hours!" 😂😂😂😂 had me dying of laughter! Maybe add a computer outside your work room, with a terminal to chat with, that sends all messages to your inbox.
Incredible stuff! I’ve been thinking about making that ninja game for a little while now with my kids, but the pet feeder treat at the end is beyond genius!
This is insane, I love the ninja game and hide and seek. I have been watching this channel for a while and I think this is the most creative episode, 10/10 automations
I am very smart. I'll learn what happens and react accordingly, so if a game starts, ill just disassemble the candy dispenser. Stealth mode won't fool me either, I'll just take the door off the hinges. CHECKMATE!!!! This is a joke comment by the way.
Question, where did you get the small remote type unit with the buttons that you are pressing in one part of the video? Great Video!!!! Nevermind I just found it in your other video that I some how missed.
I question why he lets his kids pound and bang on the doors constantly this way in the first place then let it continue. A simple "stop it" works with my son (5), failing that he gets in trouble because he knows "daddy is working and to let him finish his work so he can play with him later". He then creates automations to "distract" his kids so they stop annoying him instead of correcting their behaviour with entertainment hence continuing the cycle. Just my 2 cents.
@DavidCiani fair enough and interesting trade off. Look like a dad who can't handle his kids on a basic level vs automatiions I'd never use because i parent my kids. But hey each to their own.
4:56 - Use a mmWave sensor instead of a motion sensor for extra hard mode. LOL! That should buy you a lot of time (mine actually senses me through walls and doors). 😛😋 Can even make that hard mode start after the first level Ninja mode and let out even more M&Ms. If you use Z2M in HA, you might able to increase the range and sensitivity of the mmWave to make it more difficult as it goes up to impossible mode. A cooldown-timer can prevent the game from being played over and over should they make it to impossible mode. Very brilliant set of automations Reed and excellent TH-cam thumbnail. 6:47 - I do the EXACT same thing. For the alarm/music to turn off on my Echo device I can either get out of bed or take my phone off the charger. This snoozes it, and if I'm still in bed the only way that it'll deactivate the alarm is getting out bed. Bravo, sir.
Hi, great video. I want to add to my network with about 40devices (half of them tuya smart) 30 led smart bulbs and cant find any cheap options with zigbee hub. If i will go without hub will it overload my RT-AX86U router?
Thanks! Usually smart devices that use a lot of bandwidth (cameras uploading to the cloud) are the main culprits. You will probably be fine with that router. Once you start getting way past 100 devices and your router is needing to be re-booted every week, then you will know it's time to upgrade the router.
I see why the ninja game is your daughter's favorite. Ingenious to use a smart home as kids game, I love it. I also love to use the pet feeder as an automated M&M's dispenser, that's just awesome! Kudos for not showing your daughter's face in the videos, protect your kids from the internet! Greetings from The Netherlands.
You my friend are a smart home routine genius! I need to level up my skills to get even some real basic routines going (it would help to have more devices as well).
These automations are great. I think that it's a really creative use and a lot more interesting then a lot of obvious routines. Plus it gets kids interested in technology and creativity.
You are a genius! I wished I had this when my kids were young, this seems to be a lot of fun. Maybe I will setup some games for my grand childrens when I have some!
My other video has more info on the automations: th-cam.com/video/9YRcJ9lGfnI/w-d-xo.html

Hehe - loved the outro! 😅
Awesome stuff
Where can we find the yaml configs for your HA automations?
Lol the toilet is flooding but the games are too awesome
it sound like fun

I second this!
At least he solve it once and for all
His kids are playing 4D chess watching this video so they can circumvent his automations.
69th like lol
As far as i can tell (only like 75% through the video) the only real method used is distraction

Honestly, I think this is one of the best uses for a smart home, to let your kids have fun.

There is a m&m limiter, it will give less until it runs out of m&ms and then he fills it the next day.
Haha you must have a cat, you know this game

Well said!
Considering how amazing all of these automations are, the kids will probably want to bang on the door for more games!
You are a GENIUS! These are all amazing! How old are your kids? Curious when you think these will start to be effective?
It's mainly used by our 4 year old. Her older sister is at school during the day but still likes playing the games.
Neat idea, but this might teach your kids that "if I knock on the door, I'll get to play a game!"
Mom, Dad, why does my favorite song keep coming from your room at night?
😂😂😂

As an Aussie, it's great to see Bluey was one of the favourite shows to put on!
Almost feels like each game in his smart home is its own episode on Bluey.
6:50 so when its seggy time.. will the music play? XDD
THIS IS AWESOME! 😱👌 Congratulations! 👏 Now I want this for my daughters too 🤣
Try making the "Red light, Green Light" game from the Squid Game series, using motion sensors
Good idea! The Aqara FP2 in that room would actually be perfect for that.
"DAD HELP I BROKE MY ARM OUTSIDE AND CANT FIND MOMMY" Alexa: want to play a game? " NO I NEED HELP" Alexa: turn off all the lights before the timer runs out to acheive help
