The offensive line, and Derrick Henry, are so good at inside zone(particularly from the pistol) that I would like to see it as our primary run play. If we show it enough and continue to have success, opposing defenses will be forced to gameplan for it. Whether that's dropping an extra safety in the box, tightening splits on the front, or walking backers up into gaps all of those options open up explosive passes, outside runs, and option concepts. We have lost games where we passed a lot, but it wasn't because we couldn't pass, it was because we couldn't manage the game, teams thinking they are going to stack the box and stop the offense are going to be in for a rude awakening.

I agree, and the biggest thing is they not athletic that’s why I believe so much success is when the play gets bounced to the outside.
The key factor for me is how do they o line interior guys match up against our interior guys because if they can push the pocket from the middle I don’t see the Bengals doing much.

Maybe they don't have the talent to penetrate. If you're going to keep up with scrambling QB's and their pass heavy offense then perhaps it makes sense to not penetrate and instead keep them in the pocket where they have to pass against lighter quicker DB's or break the pocket where they're met by lighter quicker LB's and D-Linemen.
It's also possible that they can penetrate they just choose not to so the DB's can tackle from down hill. If you have lighter quicker DB's to counter the pass (which BTW BAL do) then they also need to 1) read runs, 2) run downhill to counter runs and 3) actually tackle Backs. I reckon it's the DB's who haven't caught up to filling the gaps rather than the Bengal D-Line being unable to penetrate.

If the DTs don't penetrate, on passing downs will that tend to keep Lamar in the picket more, limiting his QB draws and scrambles, but also give him much more time to pass and pick apart their secondary?

Their pass rush isn't a strength, BUT Trey Hendrickson is an elite edge rusher that ruin your day. The upside is he rushes primarily agaisnt the LT so Ronnie is going ot be the go-to

To Your opinion is there a good chance of success in the upcoming game for short/quick pass , and screens to the TE'sand at least 3 play action deep shots?

    • @RoadGradersFB

Definitely especially as they will play a lot of zone

Is their inability to get penetration a "can't" or "won't" situation? Is this by design or is this because they lack the talent to get the penetration they need? If it is the former, I could see them making a change as there is simply no good answer for Derrick Henry that doesn't involve early contact behind the LOS. If it is the latter, I foresee another 150+ yard game for Henry.

They're 2-gapping, so they're in read and react. With guys like DJ Reader it was muche asier becuase his block deconstruction was so good
