I used to work for Grimmway Farms in the carrot processing plant. I worked doing sanitation in the freezers. The USDA inspectors heavily inspect the machines and are constantly checking the water. The use of chlorine is safe. there is a lot of work that goes into cleaning those carrots.
I'm crock potting a pot roast for later today and have a large number of these carrots, red and white onions, and potatoes. The aroma is slowly permeating the house. After all the cutting of the vegetables, just dumping baby carrots in is great. Thank you for the information. I had no idea.
Well, they are processed foods. They have no natural skin to keep themselves clean and are often sold frozen as a result. If sold "fresh" they are basically rotting already.
I love the video being pretty much straight to the point! I would have loved the video even more if you had gotten some video clips or still images of the actual mechanical process, but I understand that licensing can be difficult, so thumbs up!
Daddy Carrot had an affair with a parsnip. So Mommy Carrot set up home with another Mommy Carrot, and raised the babies to be vegetarian. Which was unfortunate, in retrospect.
Yup. When I was a kid we had to make things called "carrot sticks", which were basically normal carrots cut to about the size of baby carrots. It was obviously a dark time.
It starts when when a daddy and a mommy carrot love each other very much and get married after which the daddy carrot gives his something special gift to mommy carrot during which mommy carrot makes the sound of a wheezing pony and 9 months later mama carrot gives birth to a litter of happy little sunshine baby carrots
When a Mommy Carrot and a Daddy Carrot love each other VERY much..... I always figured the leftovers from making baby cut carrots were the shreds I see in cole slaw and other vegetable mixes.
I bake carrot cakes every year around the holidays. There have been a couple of years that I used baby carrots, since I didn't have to peel 4 or 5 pounds of carrots before shredding them. So in my case, it was just laziness...
My brothers father in law was hired to introduce baby carrots. it was an idea of the wife of the company. First marketed to schools. They took culls fed to cattle put though a tumbler shaved and made a gold mine. By the way, once he got the gold flowing was not compensated as expected.
in my country this product its rare, i wish i can open factory and sell this product in my country since we haveso many farmer dissapointed about carrot sales
When a mommy carrot loves a daddy carrot VERY much and decide to have a baby carrot, they... Everyone, please watch my little nature videos. There is no talking in them. Shhh!
I've got a buddy that believes that baby carrots are washed in bleach to bring the Orange color out brighter and that's why the white spots at times. I'm glad Simon cleared that up.
I used to ask people how they were made, and everyone always just said they were regular carrots that were cut small. But I was so used to carrots being the cone shape, there most of the carrot is MUCH thicker than a baby carrot, and it didn't make sense why they would waste so much carrot by peeling it thin. They definitely weren't cutting then in halves, because why still tasty, it's a different look. And if they just grew super thin carrots, the tops and bottoms of baby carrots still didn't look like they'd just been cut.
I actually learned something from this video. Not that it was earth shattering. For I had never even thought about it, probably thinking they just picked them early.
The man that invented them was a genious. I use babys over everything else for most things and buy a huge carrot from the asian grocery if I need carrot julliennes.
When a mummy carrot and a daddy carrot love each other very much, the daddy carrot gives the mummy carrot a special kiss, and nine months later a baby carrot appears.
I only realized that the "baby" carrots we buy are actually cut and tumbled big carrots (I found a full size tumbled carrot in the bag). I felt absolutely lied to and deeply embarrassed I hadn't realized it earlier.
baby carrots + broccoli + cauliflower + sparagus steamed with butter on low heat for 10 minutes damn my favorite side there is this other vegetable that looks like a mini cabbage but don't know the veggies name
Kleineganz I agree, however I'm eight months into a one year abstinence of TV. Though I watch when I'm with other people, I canceled my tv subscription for a year. I used to spend ten plus hours watching tv each day, i needed a break.
Justin O'Brien - I think semantics is defined as romance between jews (semites). c'mon guys, there's no room for a silly linguist's joke? well, I thought it was funny...
Dakkapow As if that makes any sense with pronunciations targeted for US audiences. I know Simon is British, but those pronunciation zingers that DON'T match the target audience are not appreciated. He still needs to brush up on quite a few words, otherwise he might just throw in a random word of Chinese or something. It's like hitting a speed bump on the open highway. It gets your attention in an unpleasant way.

Wheres the bonus fact: Carrots are naturally purple and orange ones were originally specially breed for a dutch king
oohhh neat heres some for you did you know bees horses and earthworms didnt exist in America before Europeans came?
I harvested my carrots last month and one of them had a mutation where the carrot was a white/yellow color instead of orange like the rest.
That was William III.
He was king of Orange and of England simultaneously.
Bonus fact inception: The color orange was named after the fruit.

I've got a buddy that believes that baby carrots are washed in bleach to bring the Orange color out brighter and that's why the white spots at times. I'm glad Simon cleared that up.
Well it, doesn't have to dow ith the color, but as we just learned they are washed in bleach (cause that's what chlorine is)
I used to ask people how they were made, and everyone always just said they were regular carrots that were cut small. But I was so used to carrots being the cone shape, there most of the carrot is MUCH thicker than a baby carrot, and it didn't make sense why they would waste so much carrot by peeling it thin. I've been boycotting these carrots for so long thinking they were soaked in chlorine. Glad to know they aren't. They are so convenient for a toddler.
