    I agree with Angus’ perspective much more than Atlas but Holy Shit is Angus insufferable as a person. Difficult watch tbh but Alec is a hell of a moderator.

    Blasphemy!
    I've been running Bulgarian for Tib Raises (work up to a max 10x/day) for 6 weeks now and my whole body is bulletproof! My vertical jump now improved from 20 inches (I was always in debilitating knee pain, doctors told me I'd never play sporte again!) to 75 inches!
    You just gotta BELIEVE in Tib Raises brother, BELIEVE and you will achieve!

    I sadly sat through this whole thing. My greatest takeaway is that Angus conducts himself like a child. If I was atlas there is no way I would give him a second more of my time. Disrespectful & condescending the entire time. Truly abhorrent way to treat a guest.

    I mean I get where Atlas is coming from but it's just inventing scenarios. You can like wearing barefoot shoes even if there was zero benefit, and everyone hates how they look. Who's to say feeling confident isn't improving your performance? Nothing happens in a vacuum.
    I mean, let's say the NBA player DOES want to go hiking - can they just not wear boots? If they wanted to shift to focusing on hiking and not NBA, maybe foot strength becomes an issue.
    To me, the issue with ATG and tib raises in general is people are basing their livelihood on selling you a solution to a problem you may not have.
    Atlas talked about wrist/hand training (I forget which) because of elbow pain limiting tricep training. That doesn't mean everyone who wants big horseshoe triceps needs to do that.
    The problem with the fitness industry is the answer is always "it depends" and people like ATG and SquatU want to sell you thinks that infer it's not the case.

    I'm very much on the fence about tibialis anterior training as I don't think the research or evidence is sufficient to swing either way at the moment. But I will say from one of my athletes as a long or triple jump coach. For bounding exercises focusing on horizontal displacement a heel first flat foot contact is required, this athlete can execute a heel first contact consistently across hopping and bounding on his right foot, but for his left foot he simply can't. Having tested mobility, flexibility and strength in tbe ankles. The only difference between the left and right was strength. Using a 12kg KB for tib raises he could achieve double the reps on his right foot than his left. Now obviously correlation is not causation but I do think having a major strength deficit in dorsiflexion on the left foot and then presenting significantly less active dorsiflexion on that foot in running and bounding has some strong logic to tibialis anterior strength being a limiting factor to technique

      I don’t think you really need evidence for the application of specific resistance training exercises because the effects of strength training are pretty well known to be general. You thought about the specific context of your client and the tibialis raises made sense, there’s nothing wrong with that

    I would love to see a part 2, but atlas needs to prepare better. It felt like he was grasping at straws answering questions. There are benefits to wearing barefoot shoes that are measurable and can be described a lot better. and I don’t know what he was on about the athletes thing, but I would like to see his side, presented a lot better

    I like atlas for some of his takes but there’s times I feel like he’s grasping straws and maybe over extrapolating. I also just want to add that as someone who “trains athletically” ie- sprints plyos oly lifts, heavy lifts, isolations + conditioning - I cannot FATHOM wasting any amount of time on tib raises hahaha if you want to hypertrophy those muscles go for it man. But I don’t think tib raises are adding inches to my vert or broad jump nor are they helping me drive heavier weights overhead. Anyone with experience doing these things knows that…

      @@angusbradley92 wish I listened to more of the debate before commenting but I also agree with you that 5 minutes of plyos >>> 5 minutes of tib raises for stimulating below the knee. Again I think any human who has spent any amount of time practicing plyos would probably agree. I think the loading in something like max velocity sprints or repeat hurdle jumps is significant enough to drive some hypertrophy. Pretty sure that’s been shown in some study somewhat recently - but really I’m hiring from the hip and citing these sick freaking calves as my evidence for that

    Ik you said you can't tell a foot is strong by just looking at it... but any tips on how to get my feet THICK and strong? Despite the last few years of playing sports, sprinting, trying barefoot stuff, plyos, calf raises and general strength training, I haven't found an effective way to strengthen my feet and they frequently get injured after a week of intense running and jumping.
    So yea if actually do have any ideas on building thick gnarly feet that'd make my day 😂

      Honestly my first instinct would be to try and manage your training load a bit more conservatively. Build up more plyo/barefoot tolerance over time
