    From an electrical engineering standpoint, using the AC input for DC isn't that far-fetched. Switchmode power supplies (which most MPPT controllers are, anyway) operate natively on DC. The first step is rectification and the rest of the chain is DC converted to high frequency AC. This is why your laptop power brick can operate from 100-250V 50/60Hz, and probably an even wider frequency range if you really wanted to, and in many cases straight DC. Miilitary power supplies (which I've worked) are spec'ed to accept an even wider range. I do like the power factor on the display. I wish more manufacturers would do this.

    Update from Zendure: "The Vmp of the Zendure 200W solar panel is 18V. 18V * 9 equals roughly 160V. also, we are working on increasing the voltage range."
    (Their promo video already exceeded it by 2V. :) Its hard to stay below 10A, 160 Vmp or 60Vmp and even hit the target of 1800W or 600W!)

    Tiny Wanderland did a review of the device which saw it crap out under frequent use in two weeks. When I attempted to question the status I was quickly labeled as some sort of spam (opinion) and flagged. After responding to Facebook it was reversed but the lack of discloser really was a problem. At the end of the campaign they send it to You and Will for that final push.
    If they had given it to you guys initially some of the quirks could have been noted and worked on early. Thanks for a great job as always. I was really interested.

Also due to constant heat. We can no longer handle the cold. When the grid failed us this Feb for 4 days & nights of no juice it was a whopping 29°F We thought we were going to die! (actually 151 ppl did die) So 240V to run our 2-ton HVAC is critical for us.

    • @n2rj
      @n2rj 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Switchmode power supplies already include that step (rectification) at the front end so most of them can use straight DC rather than AC. What it appears they have done is have an MPPT controller at the AC input and a rectifier so it can also take AC. What I’m not sure about is if they reuse the inverter as a battery charger like ecoflow and others who don’t use bricks, “charging enhancers” and other external power supplies. It could be, since their UPS mode has a delay.

    • @rc2639
      @rc2639 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@n2rj I think you can call it a charge controller that monitors the wave form and then acts as an AC charge controller or an MPPT controller depending on what it sees. I bet EF internally works very similarly.

    • @n2rj
      @n2rj 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rc2639 it’s actually probably a lot simpler. In most if not all switching power supplies the AC is rectified to DC so beyond initial filtering it’s DC until converted to high frequency AC.

    • @rc2639
      @rc2639 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@n2rj Yep. I figured that out but I think you asked about the came circuitry working in both directions (charging from AC and inverting from DC). I wasn’t sure but based on the compact size of the SBP I’d have to conclude it is similar to the EF in that part of the design.

    I believe some forms of Bridge Rectifiers can allow for AC or DC input.

  • @chrisw1462
    @chrisw1462 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Since a switching power converter is the only way to allow the wide-range of voltage that solar gives you, making one that can handle the true peak of rectified 120 VAC is just component choice. From there, all you need is a bridge rectifier that will handle whatever constant max DC current you're going for... and BANG BANG (😃) You have a combined AC/DC input. And it won't care which polarity the DC is!

    Zendure has said, "SuperBase Pro supports Wi-Fi network connection as well as direct connection using the built in Wi-Fi module. So even if there's no Wi-Fi network available, you'll still have easy access to your SuperBase Pro through the app." I did not hear you mention the direct connect feature. I am not interested in their subscription, only wi-fi network and direct connect. Can you confirm it has this feature?

    • @rc2639
      @rc2639 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can expect higher parasitic draw on higher output devices, The SBP inverter peak efficiency is around 93% and the upper and lower ends are around 90%. The DC is your typical 10A system with efficiency in the 90% range, so 10% idle draw worst case, but probably better with what you don’t need turned off.

    I wonder if that 100V going into the solar input.. has something to do with that solar input on the AC plug... I wonder if they are connected/sharing the same controller, so it is allowing the volts in, but limiting it.... just a theory since its such a quirky idea.
