Pro tip if you get a whole house carbon filter prior to the softener you will at a minimum double the life of the resin beads. The resin beads get fouled over time from the chlorine or chloramides local governments disinfect the water with
That pre-historic tank & fleck power head is what my current softener has. The power head has failed & I've ordered a new one. However I heard that resin never goes bad because it's plastic. Is this true? Also how do I know what type of resin to to buy to replace what's now in my pre-historic tank? It's 30 years old & the Fleck lasted that long & my well water was still soft! Now that it's broken & waiting for new power head advice needed on resin type. It's very EZ to know the unsoftened water is hard! Soap will not lather a bit! Good video! Thanks
I would highly recommemd a whole new unit. Between the old control head and the old resin, it's not going to work very well even if you get it working again. The new ones are so salt efficient.
I read a comment from a person who worked in the water softener business and they said that price gouging is common and never to pay more than $1000. What should one look for in a softener? Are any heads recommend?

YES! There are a lot of softeners today that come with automatic backwashing carbon filters built in!
Another great video, i would be interested in a install video of a water softener when you get the call for one.
We might just do that!

My understanding from my supplier is the resin has a 10 year life expectancy. Of course that's in my local area.

I would absolutely not agree with that person. Water softeners typically cost $2500-3500 installed. I like the newer digital units that use logic.
That tank isn’t from the 70s lol it’s the early 2000s mine is from 2006 and it’s identical
This particular one was installed in the 70's but they did use this same design for many many years. Probably still do! Lol
Resin beads are like ice on a smooth floor.
Indeed they are!
