Damn. They are definitely a live band. Very few bands come along that transcend all genres and labels and still sound the same. They can go hard, punk, soft, dark melodic, and folk and its still pearl jam. I can count the bands that pull that off without sounding pretentious on one hand.
Wow. These new songs sound incredible live. Wouldn't be surprised if they really concentrated on finding Ed's vocal sweet spot when making this album. He's singing the SHIT out of these songs. They're playing with more passion than ever.
I've had the same thought... but also in conjunction with finding what works with Matt. Matt's best stuff was always with Soundgarden... until now. Back to Ed.... Waiting For Stevie is a perfect example of what you're talking about. So is Scared of Fear. And Setting Sun. .... etc

The Blu-ray Atmos version is my favorite official version. At least there is better separation in the mix. But these live versions just kill. Amazing how you can hear so much more detail. Thanks for all your work putting this together.
PJ is still the best live band I've seen play - here in Adelaide (South Australia) back on 21/11/2006 - it was staggering. This live compilation of the new LP is outstanding. I think I've played "Waiting For Stevie" over 20 times. Thanks for posting.
My first show was in 1992 BC (before children), a free concert next to U-DUB in Seattle....Eddie was hanging!!! Second show, 9-9-2024 with one of my triplet sons in Philadelphia...the band and like all other nostalgic bands (Stones, Peppers, etc.), including myself have definitely mellowed but we're still going strong! The Philly show at the Wells Fargo Center was FANtastic!!! My 28yo son said it was his best concert ever...(head & shoulders over the Stones, Eagles, Van Halen, Rodger Waters). My son loved how the audience participated in just about all the songs! I myself like the old songs...the new album songs need to grow on me. Thank you Pearl Jam
Thanks from the bottom of my heart fort that. I love the new album, don't like the production (too popish for me). But I knew, these songs would be a blast when played live. Proof's here.
Filled out? Yes. Which is a terrible thing. The whole sound is safe and sanitized as a result. They really don't need a third guitar, let the songs have air for goodness sake. And I feel the backing vocals are there to provide high harmonies to cover for Eddie's once mighty, but now sadly weakening voice. He doesn't write high notes into his music any more and struggles with some of the older material. Early Pearl Jam weren't about playing safe. They were raw, visceral and in no need for padding by keyboards, backing vocals and a third guitar.
@@hutch5799 as a musician myself, and an avid music fan, I see where you are coming from. But aren't you being a bit savage? 😂 . For guys pushing 60, doing this kind of music is quite remarkable. Sure Eddie's voice isnt the same as the early/mid 90s, but this most recent album proves he found a balance with what he can do with his voice still and acquiesce. Also , having some younger blood like Josh Klingoffer to energize the band isn't a bad thing, much like Andrew Watt producing their most recent album, seemed to reinvigorate the guys. I agree that some songs don't necessarily need a third guitar or any extra frills, but also keep in mind josh is a multi-instrumentalist and can play multiple things. Eddie has ALWAYS has been the 3rd guitar, so its always been there (in certian songs) Alot of bands as they develop certain weaknesses (as father time starts to take over) ,or just to emulate the modern studio sound to a live show will add musicians and backup vocalists, The Rolling Stones being a perfect example. It doesn't make them any less enjoyable to watch. The higher harmonies aren't a bad addition either, although, I know Mike and Matt can also sing higher harmonies as well, thats why the whole band has vocal mics. It's obviously subjective, this whole debate, but i think PJ sounds better on this tour than they have in a while, and their new album is kick-ass! I had the pleasure of seeing them in Chicago last year, and plan on driving the 5 hours to Chicago from Detroit to see them again this year! Sorry for the long-winded response 😂 ✌
