I got my male Ackie about 12 months ago. I’ve used lockdown to spend time handling and building threads of trust with him. Two months later after following advice from youtubers such as NERD and Brian With Bruce at BHB I can now handle and building a trusting relationship with him. Feeling proud and thankful for all the advice given. Please take the leap and get some. So rewarding and intelligent
I keep my pair in a 6x.2.5x3 foot cage with about 15 inches of susbstrate. They have two different basking areas, one tops out at about 135 surface basking temp, the other tops out at 155-160 surface temp. They routinely use the really hot basking area, I've kept them like that for years, and neither one has ever had even the smallest of thermal burns. The really hot basking temps they will only use for a few minutes at a time, with the only exception being my female after she lays eggs. She will "bake" right after laying, but it's clearly what she needs. Under the basking areas are stacks of stone and wood (commonly called a Retes Stack), so they can fit between the layers to choose from a variety of temperatures to hang out in (they most often hang out in areas that are 90-100), and the cage has areas that get down to 80 degrees. Even though they're not big lizards by the standards of herpetoculturists, they use every inch of the cage available to them.
This video's got me even more worried about my ackie, now. She's about the same size as that two month old in his hands and I got her when she was 4 months old. She's now a year and 5 months old and has only grown about an inch and a half in the time I've had her. She was severely affected by recurring pneumonia when I got her with three rounds of antibiotics injections to bring her back but she's still that small. I hope there's still time to fix that.

Excellent interview!!
Looks like a great teaser!!
I’ve been researching Ackies of late. Fascinating little monitors. On my short list for sure.
Really neat video

Just keep feeding and dont worry about it, if she is otherwise healthy. She was probably underfed young.
